The Grand Canyon as seen from Lipan Point, October 2015.

all of a sudden, the experience which was perhaps hidden from us until then, and that it confronts us with the knowledge in ourselves. I can only see the inward nature of a photo-portrait when due to my own experience I have some conception of inward nature :-)

National park of KRKA in Dalmatia

The park consists of waterfalls which built up themselves on the river Krka thanks to the formation of travertine.

It possesses a fauna and a rich and varied flora.

By crossing the park, browsed by small brooks and small waterfalls pouring in an immense lake, we believe to have found the Heaven on Earth...

On my birthday the world gives me moments of immense beauty ....

And while he performs beautiful evolutions perpetually and turns changing every day, today I count 46 years .

Years spent always honestly in my imperfection as a human being through ups and downs, but my only thought today turns to my children: what am I leaving them, what moral inheritance am I passing on, what am I teaching them, I am a good father, they will be proud of me, how long can I look after them and watch them grow?

For now I'm happy 'cause I'm always giving him all of myself and I'm not reproaching myself for anything !

Majestic Falls is the largest of several modest waterfalls along McDowell Creek within McDowell Creek Falls Park. Flanked by a creative staircase and a nice observation deck, the falls drop 39 feet into a blue green pool at the head of a small bowl-shaped canyon. While not a terribly large waterfall Majestic Falls is the best along McDowell Creek, and is one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the lower South Santiam drainage area, especially during the late autumn months when the considerably ubiquitous Big Leaf Maple trees throughout the canyon are glowing orange and yellow. During the winter and spring, McDowell Creek roars to life, sending an immense volume of water over the falls, but calms in the summer to that of a tranquil backdrop.

I'm now on the immense beach plain at the northern tip of Rottumeroog and a small ray of sun breaks through the cloud cover while this ray falls on the emergence of two young dunes.

The sand is held by the pioneer plant beach grass. This plant produces long rhizomes and when the shoots of the roots come into contact with light, new sprouts emerge.

The necessary freshwater moistening of the plant takes place trough the rain or air humidity.

Dune formation takes place when an object is lying on the beach plain, that has a windward side and a leeward side, so that the sand will be lifted at the windward side and can remain out of the wind on the leeward side.

In this way, the dune can get higher and higher and the bottum of it will become further overgrown with grasses, mosses and shrubs.

The start of dune formation can occur from anything such as a piece of wood washed ashore or a dead bird, as long as the object can hold the drifting sand on one side.

I think it went in exactly the same way with the formation of the earth: From shallows, the sand came to the surface trough silting and the formation of land took place by means of dune formation........

Swans are seen here in immense numbers now, Flocking up and heading for the far arctic north to make little swans.

This group appears to have their stuff together as they regard me with the saucy indifference of an 80’s rock group on an album cover. These are, ostensibly, all Tundra Swans. But the one on the left, with the pronounced pinch between bill and eye, and the rounded brow line has features of the less common Trumpeter Swan, though the yellow lores (in front of the eye), is a distinctive Tundra Swan feature.

Of course, it could be a hybrid, though these are not documented in nature, only in captive populations.

One could say “who cares?", as they are a fine-looking lot, however they’re called.

precious refuge

In Serra do Caparaó, as expected in mountain areas, the vegetation changes gradually, according to the altitude. The Atlantic forest reigns in the lower parts of the Park — beautiful, it creates an immense green carpet, which protects the slopes. Angicos, lent trees, palm trees, jequitibás and several other species, exclusive to this ecosystem, mix in a harmonious confusion. With altitude, the landscape gives way to the formation of fields: the higher the location, the more rocky vegetation is distributed over the rocks. In the Minas Gerais part of the Park, the vegetation is a little drier, as it is not influenced by sea winds.

The tropical rain forest (Atlantic forest) goes up to about 1,800 meters; from 1,800 to 2,400 meters, are the altitude fields, with shrub formations next to the tropical rain forest, in which the flora is formed mainly by grasses — such as canes, bromeliads, mosses and orchids, in addition to cinnamon-de-ema and evergreens. cheers. Above 2,400 meters, there are clean fields. There are stony soils and species adapted to intense cold, frost and ice crust. On the slopes of Espírito Santo, the Atlantic Forest predominates.

It is, therefore, a very important Park for the preservation of Brazilian biodiversity, mainly because it is a region where the Atlantic Forest predominates, with many centenary trees. It also preserves an extensive water network, with several springs and, due to the steep slope, streams, waterfalls, lakes and natural pools with pure and crystalline waters. In addition, it protects endemic species of fauna and flora. Among the population of animals, specimens threatened with extinction can be found, such as the jaguar, the ocelot, the Moorish cat, the jacutinga, the harpy eagle, the tapir and the macuco.

Also noteworthy are the mono-carvoeiro, the maned wolf and the pampas deer. Other important animals are the astute wild dogs, the capuchin monkey and the raccoon, which takes its name from the hairless hand that leaves footprints similar to those of a child. In addition to more than thousands of species of insects and reptiles and countless amphibians. Still in the region, there is a large but friendly species that can, with great luck, be found: the endangered muriqui — the largest monkey in the Americas. Of birds, more than 300 species are known. Tangarás, tanagers, orange thrushes, toucans, seriema, hawk, saracura, jacu and parrot adorn the sky in high or low flights.

Between ups and downs, there is also no lack of water. The Park's drainage network is characterized by perennial small and medium-sized rivers. Vale Verde, for example, is formed by the Caparaó River and surrounded by a beautiful forest. Located close to the administrative headquarters, the Valley comprises the lowest areas of the Park, with less than 1,000 meters of altitude. The course of the river between the rocks forms small waterfalls and wells that create natural pools.

This huge oak tree had lost two of its lower main branches during the last storm. That day the storm was still rumbling and I hurried to immortalize this lord while protecting my camera (not WR). With great luck a rainbow appeared offering me this magical moment between rays of sun and darkness.

EARLY DAYS

A primal cry tore the silence of dawn. Powerful, chilling and strange at the same time. Its echo was heard far away on the immense lake which bathed a high volcanic plateau.

Strange, because this cry evoked neither fear nor pain. Nor did it sound like the cries of satisfaction that came with victory, domination - a common occurrence in these places of constant struggle for survival. Not far away, a group of Homo sapiens stood facing the rising sun, motionless, immersed in deep fascination at the spectacle before them. These were the first days, the dawn of humanity.

If an anthropologist had been able to witness this scene, he would have written that it was, there on the shore of this lake, that fascination and wonder were born - those deep emotions which lead the human imagination to want to understand the origin and significance of the phenomena it encounters. Already, these homo sapiens understood that this invisible thing that they breathed (air) and that the water they drank was vital to their survival. Other questions, just as vital for beings who do not depend on an artificial environment for their survival, urged their minds ...

___________

150,000 years later, on the path of evolution and progress, the highly respected French oceanic explorer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, observed, like the scientific community: “Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans. ”

____________

A powerful cry of concern from a distant past echoed across the shores of the lake.

The Grand Brûlé is a huge expanse of solidified black lava that was formed during the various eruptions of Le Piton de la Fournaise volcano. In some places, the vegetation takes over. It is located at the south-eastern tip of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

The cathedral is immense, 157 m long and 109 m wide. The interior has five naves with a height that reaches 45 meters, divided by 40 pillars. It has a transept with three naves.

The predominant style of the cathedral is the flamboyant Gothic, relatively uncommon in Italy.

Immense swan of frigid northern regions; breeds on the tundra, taiga, and steppe and winters in marshy lakes and wetlands, often in wild areas. Fairly straight neck, short tail, and sloping bill distinct from Mute Swan; told from smaller Bewick’s (Whistling) Swan by larger and pointed yellow patch at base of bill, also lower-pitched and more bugling calls. Juvenile often dingier through first winter than juvenile Bewick’s; juveniles of both usually found with adults as family groups.

Nature can set up extraordinary shows. The stage is immense, the amazing lights, the infinite extras and the unlimited budget for special effects.

In reality this photo dates back to the confinement period, walking alone at impossible hours, I never met anyone. So I could also experience this possibility of panoramic with the phone. Then I added texture and processing on photoshop.

The world has resumed its path in just a month here. I don't notice big changes in people, apart from the mask and lack of money. All good intentions, altruism, empathy, vanished in the blink of an eye. And our politicians have never stopped fighting after a first hint of feigned solidarity.

I miss those long timeless walks ....

I hope you are well, I wish everyone a good week.

That's how Bill Bryson described this area in his book, "The Road to Little Dribbling" - a great read !

These fells may not be immense compared to many highland areas in our precious world, but they rise straight up - and if you've ever climbed a Lake District fell, you know it. Let me take you there now... this is from the banks of Derwentwater, my favourite view of the lake and fells surrounding it. The boats lie dormant, waiting for the chance to take another trip out. No fast boats here... it's so peaceful. Miss it a lot. Only a few hours' drive from home... it would be lovely to just GO there !

A part of the immense compressor room of the Winterslag coalmine.

This 1912 building, built in neo- classical style, houses the huge and powerful compressors that supplies the underground explotation with the neccesary compressed air.

A coalmine contains a lot of mine gas that can explode at the slightest spark. All underground tools and transport equipement are driven by compressed air, so that sparking is virtually impossible.

On the bottom floor of the compression room are huge fans that supplies the underground with fresh air and extract the used air upwards.

The addition of fresh air is also necessary to control the temperature underground because it is 45 degrees C at a depth of 750 meters.

So you can easily say that the compressors togehter with the huge fans, forms the heart and lungs of the underground mine.

Gorillas are the largest of the great apes and are incredibly fascinating primates. They are known for their immense strength, gentle nature and complex social structures.

Western Lowland Gorilla are the most numerous and widespread subspecies, found in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea. This is the subspecies most commonly seen in zoos.

Mountain Gorillas were made famous due to the work of Dian Fossey, these gorillas live at high altitudes in the Virunga Mountains that border Rwanda, Uganda, and in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

All gorillas live in the tropical and subtropical forests of equatorial Africa. Their habitats range from lowland rainforests to montane cloud forests and even bamboo forests at high altitudes.

Gorillas are stocky, powerful animals with broad chests and shoulders. Males are significantly larger than females, and a mature male, known as a "silverback," can stand over 6 feet tall and weigh up to 400-500 pounds (or more in captivity).

Appearance: They have large, human-like hands, small eyes set into hairless faces, and distinctive brow ridges. Silverbacks develop a saddle of silvery hair on their backs as they mature, which gives them their name.

Gorillas are primarily herbivores, with their diet consisting mainly of vegetation. The exact composition of their diet varies by species and subspecies, and also seasonally.

Gorillas are highly social animals and live in groups called troops. The typical troop structure is a harem, led by a dominant adult male, the silverback. He is responsible for leading, protecting, mediating conflicts within the group, and breeding with the females.

Gorillas communicate through a complex repertoire of vocalizations (grunts, hoots, screams, roars) and body language, including the famous chest-beating display.

Nauset Beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, É.-U., Juin 1925

Nauset Beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, June 1925

A lone man walks on the immense wild beach of Cape Cod where rumble a raging sea. He lives alone in a small hut, there, on the cliff, where he wrote a novel (The Outermost House) in a deep meditation. He draws his inspiration from a total immersion with this wilderness of which he said is " part of our humanity, and without some awareness of that divine mystery man ceases to be a man ».

From that day, Henry Beston, author and naturalist, wrote: "The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of the wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach…" as if he recognized in this powerful maritime symphony, the primordial sounds of our origins.

I already said that we do not "know" our origins for sure, but something within us "knows". (also see: www.flickr.com/photos/patrice-photographiste/24613328034/... )

The Tenza river in Campagna (Sa)

Campagna is a town nestled in the Piacenza Mountains, in the province of Salerno.

Characterized by an immense naturalistic heritage, its territory hosts 3 oases: the Hermitage of San Michele, the WWF Oasis of Persano and the WWF Oasis of Monte Polveracchio.

From July 16 to August 17, there is a unique folkloristic event in the world, which attracts a multitude of tourists. "A Chiena" consists of making the Tenza river overflow from its original basin and channel it into an original course. Originally, this overflow created by man was used to clean the streets, this event has transformed into a fun event.

For those who have always felt authorized to throw buckets at their friends, this is the perfect opportunity. Every Sunday afternoon, with costumes or light clothing, a war of buckets of water breaks out. If you prefer something more tranquil, the walk allows you to walk with your feet in the water without fearing .

buckets but, instead, enjoying the bars that adorn the main street.

This somewhat strange title refers to a scene in one of the star wars movies, where you can see an immense amount of space ships flying through the air on the planet of Coruscant.

I guess this doesn't need further explanation. The picture itself was shot in one of my favorite locations close to home, where geese are abundant, and i wanted to show you a panorama of one of the areas (there are three areas more) where they are residing, eating, making noise, and from time to time leaving the ground, when a bird of prey is flying over. The squeaking and the sound of flapping wings is absolutely amazing.

Furthermore spring is arriving, so birds that nestle here are coming, for instance lapwings have arrived, and you can see from time to time a group op ca 500 individuals flying through the air which adds up to the spectacle, and on top of that starlings in massive amounts make their contribution as well to the scene.

So I tried to make something to give you a feel of what it is to be here. I stitched four pictures, and with different layers added more birds to the scene (mainly in the air). This is only a minor view of the spectacle though. I am not sure if the size of the picture is appropriate for the flickr frame, but by clicking it should be possible to see a little bit more. Hope you enjoy this pic.

We leave the above grounding mining site and see once more the immense coal washing plant where 66.593.000 tons of coal are processed from 1912 until 1987, the year in which the mine was closed. The Beringen mine was closed because coal mining had become far too expensive at great depths in a more than 100 km long tunnel systems.

The steel industry in Liége was declining and because the blast furnaces were large consumers of coal, the need for this type of fuel became fewer and fewer.

What remains are the mining buildings covered by thick layers of rock and coal dust.

The miners have payed of their underground labor with their health, because their lungs were affected by the inhalation of rock and coal dust.

Their lung capacity was reduced to the absolute minimum and they died the terrible death of suffocation. Even to this day, ex miners are dying at this terrible death from this disease.
