Immediately after Rod Barajas was hit, Gerald Laird popped up and got right up close to make sure he was ok. I think Barajas knew that Sborz was just wild as hell and didn't mean to do it, so nobody got charged on the mound or anything.

As the fireworks display at the annual Gazebo Festival in Bearden, Arkansas neared its finale, a four-inch mortar shell exploded inside its tube. This photo was taken immediately after the display and unfired shells (red fuses) are still visible in the tubes.

Mirror Lakes are a set of lakes lying north of Lake Te Anau and immediately to the west of the road from Te Anau to Milford Sound. At 35 miles north of Te Anau, the lakes are about halfway to Milford Sound and the car park right next to State Highway 94 is a popular stop for tour buses on route to Milford Sound. The lakes are only a 5-minute walk away from the car park along a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk. A wooden viewing platform and short walking track run along the lakes, one of which has a deliberately mirrored sign mounted just above the water's surface, so that the name "Mirror Lakes" is shown correctly in its reflection. On a calm day, the Earl Mountains can be seen reflected in the water.

Immediately following the ceremony we had the cocktail hour out on the deck and patio below the chapel. The weather was chilly but that meant the gnats were not out! Guests were entertained by the sounds of Melvin Dean of Steel the Show. Melvin played the steel drums and had our guests grooving and dancing to some great island music. Wait staff passed delicious Hors D' oeuvres made by Chef Mark Scomo of Savannah Event Catering. Tasty bites of mini Bimini seafood cakes, cucumbers stuffed w/ Calypso crab salad, red potatoes with Allouette cheese and Prosciutto wrapped asparagus in puff pastries. Our guests also signed our non traditional guest book(s). One was a wooden swing we bought from Lovett's Trading post in Rincon. The other was a hand painted one of a kind scroll from Etsy that we intend on framing. We also wanted to try and get a photo of our whole wedding party on the steps of the chapel. There were about 160 people at our wedding...most of those were in the group photo. Those that were not in it were more than likely standing in line at the bar!

Immediately after the Prime Minister authorized Operation Heavy Hammer, Lieutenant Commander Whitmore and his team deployed to Ligeria.

The team joined a Combined Special Operations Task Force, led by the United States, that was already hunting Hadir Sulaman and Omar Hassan, the individuals orchestrating attacks in Ligeria. Hassan, as Sulaman's lieutenant, is a bomb maker responsible for manufacturing IEDs.

Upon arrival, LCdr Whitmore was greeted by a familiar face from CAG. He and his team also received a briefing from the Task Force Commander on the overall situation in Ligeria.

We were immediately captivated by Campo Maior. Particularly elegant streets, beautiful houses, and a very well-designed urban layout.

The castle area has been creatively renovated, and the interplay of light between the architectural volumes was impossible to resist.

The Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, in its original white and blue, transported us to other places.

As if all this wasn't enough, we also had the surprise of the Ouguela citadel (in another post).

*

We were immediately convinced that this location had enormous potential as a film or TV show set.

Ferreira da Silva Laboratory (recently restored) is located in the University of Porto's Rectorate building, former Faculty of Sciences. It’s an impressive and scenic Art Deco space, and we felt truly transported to the aesthetics and atmosphere the laboratory had in the 1930s and 40s.

During the pioneering academic era of Ferreira da Silva, chemistry teaching was highly experimental. The collection includes instruments and publications from his time, as well as earlier ones dating back to the late 18th century. In other words, the laboratory serves as a small but valuable museum showcasing 300 years of chemistry.

The Professor is connected to the early study of food safety; he corresponded with Madame Curie and had a famous public intervention in a known murder case (“The Crime of Flower Street"), a poisoning case in which his forensic toxicology knowledge had a decisive role.

*

Droughts in southern Zimbabwe are a common occurrence. Their onset is slow and may not immediately be visible, but their effects are devastating. While a lot can be done to save the lives of people and animals during droughts, there is also a need to build the resilience of communities to cope with recurrent droughts that have become even more frequent and extreme with climate change.

The United Kingdom through its Department for International Development (DFID), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the government of Zimbabwe (as well as other partners), implemented an USD$ 11 Million emergency drought mitigation project, after poor successive rainy season (2012 - 2013).

The objective of the project was to contribute to household food and nutrition security, with the expected outcome being to enhance protection of assets and develop market systems.

The project was able to;

•Distribute 19 000 tonnes of both survival and pen fattening stock feed over 20 000 livestock owning families.

•Supported 15 000 families through building and rehabilitating 60 boreholes.

•A total of 375 000 animals vaccinated against anthrax and Foot and mouth disease.

•Government field extension staff trained on Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS).

Heidi immediately identified this pair of birds as Eurasian Collared-Doves, a species I had never seen before. Apparently they range coast-to-coast now.

The semi finished product after the first drying. Immediately after the first drying, the semi done products are coated with a layer of paint or designs that need to be hand drawn. They are then finally coated with a clear lacquer before they are sent for firing at 1200 degrees celsius to get the final products.

I got a rare opportunity to visit one of the commercially managed pottery factory with a friend's introduction to the operator.

It is a small tuck away corner in Ying Ge. The factory still used the age old plaster to pour into mould to produce the pottery. The clients are mainly commercial entities like banks, gift shops, government bodies who wants to produce some clay or porcelain gifts for distribution.

Immediately I saw this one emerging from Lightroom's developing tank, I knew this was photo of the day. You simply can't beat daisies for lifting the spirits.

It was busy day today. Up early(ish) - well, it is still the holidays. Had breakfast then started painting the kitchen. Then got the slooooow bus to Stirling to meet one of my fellow retirees for a coffee and a wee chat. Back on an almost equally sloooow bus back, in time to sit in the garden before making dinner - it was my day for that. Then out in the garden again to catch some early evening rays and admire the daisies. Now it's time for a 'sundowner'. A busy day, but a very enjoyable one.

Lillibeth immediately chose my husband Gordon. Remember how Nancy Reagan looked at her husband Ronald Reagan with those puppy-dog eyes of admiration?

Well, that is just how Lillibeth behaves toward Gordon 24/7. She even cries when he leaves the room or the house!

i immediately went into kid mode at the sight of this camera. After having a mini tantrum waiting for an adult to find a cross-head screwdriver so I could put batteries in, I wandered round the house shooting VERYTHING.

All the pics needed a nasty colour cast removed, and 98% of them needed deleting. But the keepers look so ... well, taken inside a house by someone wandering round shooting EVERYTHING.

Immediately after the spring, a small lake forms which is the 'main' start of the Mara River. It has a small underwater viewing deck in the background. We did 'do' it, but in reality there wasn't too much to see; a few fish and that was it, although, on a good day, you might get to see crocs or hippos - both of which were in the lakes!

Immediately following the explosion from Chornobyl reactor #4, the firefighters were brought in to put out the fire. However, the firemen did not know the area was dangerously radioactive. Their first order was to extinguish the flaming graphite before it could spread to the nearby reactor 3, which was in operation. After a few minutes, one by one, the firemen fell ill and collapsed from the invisible radiation. Hours later most would be dead from the radiation poisioning. These 40 firefighters are considered to be the first victims of the disaster.

Immediately after we set up, people were swirling around, plugging in their phones. As much as we could we helped them finding empty slots or simply talked about what's going on.

Zedler's Mill, Caldwell County, Texas. Located immediately outside of Luling along the banks of the San Marcos River, Zedler's Mill was founded in 1874, and grew to a large complex of buildings over the next few decades. Abandoned by 1960, the mill complex has recently been cleaned up and preserved in a state of arrested decay. Today it serves mainly as a Texas summer watering hole and a popular tubing spot. Pictures taken February 15, 2008 and August 9, 2008.

Giving Solar Lanterns as a prize to the best performing students is not a new initiative of Pervaiz Lodhie. In previous years Lodhie Foundation has extended his initiative to various schools in Sindh and Punjab.

Inspiring with the idea, Mr. Jonathan Mitchell PHD President and Founder of Concentric development Inc. invited Pervaiz Lodhie to extend his program of distributing solar lanterns as prizes in PEP schools. Pervaiz Lodhie has immediately offered to gift 249 lanterns, allowing for three prizes per school. His suggestion was to distribute them to 1)Top student of the year 2) Top most improved student of the year 3) Top best attendance student of the year.

Mr. Lodhie also suggested encouraging the prize recipients to teach a short literacy course to family members or relatives.

During his recent visit to Pakistan in March 2016, Pervaiz visited the two schools in Mirpurkas and Tando Allahyar and distributed the solar lanterns to the 7 best students. Remaining 242 lanterns will be distributed in first and second week of April 2016

Trump’s executive order which bans people from 7 predominantly Muslim countries immediately resulted in many people being detained at airports across the country. In response, emergency protests erupted this weekend at many of the largest airports, including here at O’Hare in Chicago, this one organized by Arab American Action Network. In a matter of a few short hours, around 2,000 protesters converged at the International Terminal in O’Hare where 13 people from the #MuslimBan countries were being detained because of their immigrant or refugee status. For close to 6 hours, protesters rallied, marched, chanted, linked arms, sat-in until news came that all the detainees at O’Hare had all been freed. While a federal judge issued a stay against Trump’s #MuslimBan, it only protects those who were detained at airports since the signing or those who were in transit when the emergency ruling was filed. Organizers and protesters vow to continue to fight until there is #NoBanNoWall.

Is immediately behind me as I look to the west and the Point at Refugio State Beach. These rocks surround the outlet to El Cap Creek, and form some pretty good tide pools. However, these pools and rocks show wear from many feet - some of tide pool lookers, some from surfers.
