I started playing around a bit with some software from www.oloneo.com/.

Their software does HDR processing, but it also does a really neat "ReLight" effect. The user plugs in several images of the same subject using the same exposure settings but different lighting in each image. Then the user has full control over each of those "lights" once the software has mixed all of the images together. Super cool stuff!

Each of the above shots is a screen shot from the same processed image using different lighting settings.

By combining two convolution filters it is possible to create an "angle map" which maps an image's edges' angles to a pixel value. Then this map can for example be used to control the rotation of a brush that gets painted over the image.

It is the same old story: the strongest and evilest always prevale.

Inspired by two picture shots snatched from the two most brilliant contacts I've found so far:

the flower killer from the Cade photostream and the evil face (no longer up), from the noqontrol photostream.

Statistical median of several images.

Not really a noise field, just looks like one. The image was put through successive phases of image loss and recuperation, on separate color channels. It's still there, sort of.

Blowing the sensor with a bulb type air blower was not sufficient to eliminate dust. Blowing dust around inside the camera actually made the problem worse. The cleaning method that worked best for me is described in detail in "The Pixel Sweeper"

An image of the sky before cleaning the Canon 30D DSLR Sensor. When viewed large, the dust particles appear black against the sky and clouds. Image processing has emphasized the dust particles sitting on the glass plate sealing the sensor chip underneath against dust and moisture.

Subtle HDR using the HTC One's HDR function.

From a captured image of a notorious incident on a freeway: getaway car, chased by police, crashes, spills money that bystanders pick up.

Sheep thingy at Moffat, Scotland.

Somebody I have never met sent the original of this image to me in an email. I think they mistook me for someone else. In the spirit of glitch, I am making good use of their error.

A photo of some grass taken on Thurstaston Common, Wirral.

I've processed the image to remove much of the original vibrant colours that digital cameras inevitably give, then used a warming filter to affect the remaining colour. Finally a vignette is added.

Low-quality JPEG glitched with pixel-sorting and channel-swapping.

Glitched photograph of North Dakota, out north of Teddy Roosevelt National Park. The image was partially sorted and recombined with a version of itself that had been passed through a Fast Fourier Transform (the fine wavy patterns) and channel-swapped (the colored triangles). JPEG artifacts were used as a mask. This is the image I started out with, experimenting with pixel-sorting as a visualization technique and interrupted sorting as a way of glitching.

Aberfoyle in the snow, HTC panoramic version. Looks nice but I hate winter with a passion. There is nothing good whatsoever about winter. Oh well, could be worse, could be summer :-)

Two Birds Getting Ready to Clean the Sky

The dirty sky before cleaning the Canon 30D DSLR Sensor. There are two birds in this frame. so I didn't process the image to make the dust spots appear black. When viewed large, the dust particles appear pale blue against the sky and clouds. The dust particles are on the glass plate sealing the sensor chip underneath against dust and moisture.
