Day 213 of an Unknown Number

"Image 213"

This is your brain on cabbage. While I may not enjoy eating today's subject, it makes for a photograph!! In fact, countless fruits and vegetables become more interesting once cut open. The lighting is primarily natural, entering the window located at the top of the frame. That is a fine brain stem! Thanks for taking a look!!

Day 65 of an Undetermined Number

"Roebling's Piling"

The Brooklyn Bridge was conceived by a German immigrant named John Augustus Roebling. After 15 years of trying to sell the idea, construction finally began in 1867. While surveying for the project, Roebling's foot was crushed when a ferry pinned his foot against a piling. His toes were amputated, he developed tetanus, and he died. His 32-year-old son took over the project, got the bends during construction, and was forced to supervise the construction from his apartment window, due to his debilitating paralysis. His wife, Emily, spent the next 11 years helping with the bridge's construction. In 1910, cartoonist Otto Eppers jumped from the bridge and survived. He was later tried and acquitted for attempted suicide. This photograph was taken while driving over the bridge. I don't believe I was driving. Thanks for stopping by!!!

Day 335 of an Unknown Number

"New Umbrella"

Somebody got her first umbrella today!!! Somebody also refused to let me pick her up in order to get out of the rain a little faster. Someone also walks rather slowly in the rain. I also think she didn't want to be recognized. Thanks for rushing by!!

Day 313 of an Unknown Number

"Umbra Ranae"

A shaft of light darted through the front door glass, resulting in this multiple shadow on the wall. My wife observed as I began to contort and twist my arm in the light. She probably rolled her eyes....at least in her mind. The shadow very quickly took on the appearance of an animal of some kind......or order. Sunlight, au naturel. Thanks for popping in!!

Day 72 of an Undetermined Number

"I Owe Wha?"

Many years ago we flew to another state for a friend's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony, and though there was an unexpected downpour, we had a great time. I will never forget the bride crying during one of the speeches (unfortunately, not a happy cry) and the nudity (not the bride). The morning after the wedding, we went for a drive through the countryside. The cheese factory was closed.......so we just drove around. I took a photograph of a lovely post-rain sky, and then I spotted this decrepit house. I composited the two together, and came away with this image. Oh, they are long since divorced and remarried. Still.....a great trip. Thanks for stopping by!!!

The Scala Sancta are, according to the Christian tradition, the steps that led up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem, which Jesus Christ stood on during his Passion on his way to trial. The stairs were, reputedly, brought to Rome by St. Helena in the 4th Century. For centuries, the Scala Santa has attracted Christian pilgrims who wished to honor the Passion of Jesus.

It consists of twenty-eight white marble steps, now encased by wooden steps, located in a building which incorporates part of the old Lateran Palace, located opposite the Basilica of Saint John Lateran. They are located next to a church which was built on ground brought from Mount Calvary. The stairs lead to the Sancta Sanctorum (English: Holy of Holies), the personal chapel of the early Popes in the Lateran palace, known as the chapel of St. Lawrence.

Day 74 of an Undetermined Number

"Airid Zon.......a"

We drove to Arizona for a weekend on the river with some friends.......before kids. Our friends had kids, and we felt lucky that we didn't have any yet. We swam, rode on jetskis, and my wife parasailed behind a boat. On the drive home, we passed this wind farm.....probably near Palm Springs. Did you know that for every hour a windmill spins..............we never hear anything about benefitting from the things? It is true! Look it up! Thanks for rolling by!!

Day 216 of an Unknown Number

"Inside an Ice Hole"

I don't crave water. However, when I'm thirsty, I'll throw some water flavoring stuff in it, and make it taste better than nothing. Our fridge seems to have a freeze setting on it, so my drink partially.....froze. As I finished it off, I found my photograph for the day, just chillin' in the bottom of my glass. The light was certainly natural. Thanks for checking it out!!

For those who know me, they know I really like antiques and rustic staff, so when I discovered this treasure trove between the Mission and Castro Districts in San Francisco, well, I just stayed there for a long time trying to figure it out which would be the best place to set my tripod and to produce a fair image of the place.

Thanks a lot to the owner, who kindly allowed me to make the shot. You can tell when a store is curated and cared with passion. This is one of them.

The store is called "The Apartment" and if you ever find yourself walking through the Valencia Corridor in SFO, well, don't miss it!
