This immature hawk was perched on a snag on the side of the road every time we drove past on our way to Anahuac NWR. The weather was overcast every time but this one came out alright. It had just been dive bombed by a Mockingbird.
Update: I contacted an raptor expert on the ID of this bird. He indicated it is a three year old Swainson's Hawk female just starting to acquire adult plumage and not a White-tailed Hawk. I don't want to post a wrong ID so I've corrected it.

A friendly fisherman/mariner, Great guy to talk with.
Aboard the Berrit J, out of Seattle. A wooden commercial fishing boat.; later in the day a seaman on another boat told me this boat is maintained in excellent condition. Built in 1950 by Fisherman's Boat Shop - 60 feet, 53 gross tons.
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease! There were close to a hundred pelicans that gathered around our skiff last night. They appear when they think there might be a meal for them. The lake was calm and the light was perfect for photo ops.
Rosette Nebula - C49 , This region of mostly hydrogen gas and dust is 5000 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros. The enormous cloud is estimated to be 5.2 light years across.
This image was rendered using 2 hours of hydrogen-alpha and 30 minutes of oxygen-iii exposures. Stacked in DSS and processed in PS.
