Leaving Varanasi was difficult to do, but had to follow my plans. After, a plane trip back to Delhi and a three hour road trip, I reached Agra.
This iconic site in Agra, India has never been high on my list of things to see. Places like this seem over rated and definitely are crowded. I hate crowds and detest crowds caused by tours. People lose all of their civility when found in this environment. None the less, I braved all of this to see the marble wonder.
I got there right after it opened in the early morning hours as did a swarm of others. I must say that the white marble masterpiece is a sight to behold and I tried use the spectators to partially frame the shot. I do believe that the white marble is the most beautiful in the light of the early morning rather than later in the morning.

The Taj Mahal complex is huge. It is made up of courtyards, other buildings and walk ways. I fell in love with the architecture. This design found around the grounds atop the other buildings in thecomplex symbolizes an umbrella or a canopy, so fitting for the heat of the Indian summer. The grounds were actually quiet as few visitors spent time in other parts of the complex the morning I was there.

It is possible to take an elephant ride up the hill to see the Amer Palace and the Amber Fort. The iconic structures are located very close to Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. The forts and palaces that can be seen in Rajasthan are all huge, imposing and beautiful.

We are now in Jaipur, which is called the pink city, after the beautiful buildings that were constructed out of red sandstone. It is a relatively new city which was constructed in 1727 by a maharaja who loved astronomy.
The original city was planned and laid out on grids. The architecture is both Hindu and Muslim.
The is the often photographed Palace of the Winds. It is truly beautiful and well maintained. Originally built for the royal ladies to observe every day life without being seen, it is only a facade. Note the lovely lattice work and the dome like top of the building which could symbolize a crown.

The garden area of the Taj Mahal is definitely a visual treat. The trees and the plants and flowers often have symbolic meaning from the Koran depicting heaven. I loved the flower beds which I thought had a touch of serendipity and whimsical appeal.
