Antarctic Trip Nov 29 - Dec 3 2010.

From U.S. Ambassador Huebner's Blog:

At the South Pole.

It just keeps getting better down here. Early this morning we suited up in our extreme-cold survival gear, followed our friend Dr. Lisa Clough of the National Science Foundation down to the ice airstrip, boarded an LC-130 Hercules, and flew 3 hours inland to the South Pole. For decades the Hercules fleet has been the dependable backbone of the U.S. Antarctic Program, and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the flight deck of the old workhorse with the pilot and co-pilot as we soared into the Antarctic interior.

Today's Daily Shoot assignment was:

Illustrate time in a photograph today.

I tried to come up with something different, and settled on this melting ice cube. The sequence was shot in a little under 2 hours (15 minutes between images), so I guess you could say that this is what two hours looks like. ;-)

When I started, I didn't anticipate that I'd have trouble "seeing" the puddle as the ice melted. Once I did, it was too late for me to start over. If I did try again, I'd probably use a lit background of some sort to provide a reflection off of the water, giving some additional definition.

Processed in Lightroom.

Strobist: Canon 430EX, 1/4 power, camera right, bare, 105mm zoom. Triggered with Cactus remote.

A deep feeling of Heat and Ice

Take your everyday icecube tray, fill it up with water mixed with foodcoloring, attach your macro lens to your body, get as close as you can, add more foodcoloring, and klabang, done. Have fun!

This is Reggae the Rottweiler bobbing for ice cubes.

The Daily Shoot #ds287: Make a photograph of something cold today. Ice cubes, frosty beverages, or the freezer aisle at the grocery store.

Actually I'm a big fan of Whisky, especially from the smokey Islay region - but I would NEVER make it "on the rocks" - thought it make a nice image though...

Refridgerator rarity.
