So yeah, I took part in the insanely viral ALS ice bucket challenge. Now, depending on your point of view on this challenge will effect your opinion on this image. I decided to do the challenge because I thought it'd be fun to do and experience, would create an interesting photo opportunity, and because it pushes me to donate some money to charity that I wouldn't usually part ways with.
I used freshly gathered sea water and did the challenge on the pier by my house. No water was wasted, and it was a good laugh. I'm not an expert on ALS or the fine details of the illness, so I won't pretend to be and preach about it. I've recently read that apparently only 29% of charity fund are going towards research, with the other 71% going towards admin fees and the charity owners lining their own pockets. I don't understand the inner workings of charities, and understand that a large percentage of funds they receive need to go towards the less interesting stuff like marketing and wages, but still, that percentage seems dismal. So in the spirit of that, I'm gonna donate my money to a dog charity! Because I love dogs, and they need some dollars!
This excellent image was shot by my good friend and fellow photographer, Lois Golding. Lois is the editor-in-chief of an awesome monthly photography magazine, (that I've appeared in a couple times!) you should DEFINITELY check it out!
