Gefrorene Tulpen -

Kommt gut ins Wochenende!

No, it is not a mammoth ... This ice cube with the delicious seeds of an anise would have done well in an aniseed. The liquor has many names: Raki, Ouzo, Absinthe, Pastis, Pernod, Sambuca, Arak, Anis Escarchado – sure you know a variety of them. But I preferred to use it for Macro Mondays Redux ... The main theme is "Found in the Kitchen", but it also works for "Seeds" and "High Key" and if you look closely, you can even discover a small heart ;-)

A "famous" spot in both Sarpsborg and Rakkestad. About 400 meters north was a hunting and collecting party visiting the area for 8-9.000 years ago. The ice had melted and the terrain was under the sea. This area was an island

A visit to la Roque St Christophe takes you back 50,000 years to the Neanderthals when men dwelled in cave shelters high in the limestone cliffs. Later during medieval times it was turned into a troglodyte town and fort. The caves were occupied by Cro Magnon man and remained occupied until as late as the Renaissance period. The site is a short drive from the UNESCO Lascaux cave paintings (17000 BC) which were discovered accidentally by teenagers in 1940 and continue to lure tourists to the area.

- The Feldsee, a small cirque lake covering 9 hectares, lies at an altitude of 1,109 meters on the steep 300-meter slopes of the Feldberg. The lake is 32 meters deep, a basin carved out by glaciers since the Ice Age. The Seewand rises above the lake, towering out of the forest. (Black Forest, Germany)

The new Ice Age section at West Midlands Safari Park is truly brilliant :-)))

We love hiking here. Picture a giant glacier coursing through this valley making the moraine hills on the sides which rise up over 500' from the valley floor. Many of the lakes are the result of massive chunks of ice breaking off and getting covered with earth which insulates them. Some ice can exist this way for thousands of years. Labrador Pond is a relatively large but shallow (4-6') relic of this time period, a mere 12,000 years ago.

Northrup Falls - Colditz Cove Class II Natural-Scientific State Natural Area

The last night of the longest stretch of weather below freezing that I have experienced in my 30 years living in Tennessee with temperatures around 13F degrees the night of this shoot.

370 photos of 25 seconds each were taken for this two panel stitched image. The bottom section consisted of 170 photos for the light painting and 200 photos for the light painting above the falls and star trails.

Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation states that "Northrup Falls is one of Tennessee’s most stunning waterfalls plunging more than 60 feet over a protruding rock ledge into a scenic, narrow, gorge along Big Branch Creek. The waterfall is named for the family who settled here and operated a mill above the falls in the . 1800s. These high cliffs and “rock houses” (cave-like overhangs) at the falls and along the creek gorge were once used by cliff-dwelling Woodland Indians over 3,000 years ago. They primarily used these shelters during hunting season.

The dry ridges above the falls support a mixed oak-hickory forest dominated by white oak with Virginia pine scattered throughout. On the more xeric southwest bluff, oaks, hemlock, Virginia and short leaf pine are common with a shrublayer of mountain laurel underneath. Below the falls, following Big Branch Creek, large hemlocks and white pines, believed to be over 200 years old prominently grow. Beneath these trees, thickets of rhododendron form along the creek, providing important habitat for riparian plant and animal species."

Malham Cove, Describing the cove in 1779, Thomas West said, "This beautiful rock is like the age-tinted wall of a prodigious castle; the stone is very white, and from the ledges hang various shrubs and vegetables, which with the tints given it by the bog water. & c. gives it a variety that I never before saw so pleasing in a plain rock."[1]

ENGLISH

If you do not know it, Manny is the name of the mammouth of the film “Ice Age”.

***

This immense stone mammoth was an initiative of Norbert Font i Sagué, geologist, speleologist and writer. During this period, the Junta de Ciències Naturals (Board of Natural Sciences) was being consolidated, and wished to reproduce in stone all of the great species that had disappeared. The mammoth was built according to a model by the sculptor Miquel Dalmau.

Norbert Font i Sagué was born and died in Barcelona (1874-1910). He was responsible for introducing speleology to Catalonia and, sponsored by the Ramblers Centre (Centre Excursionista de Catalunya) conducted a survey that allowed him to establish the Speleological Catalogue of Catalonia.

In 1904 he took up the post of Geology Professor of the Catalan University Studies and published a course in dynamic geology applied to Catalonia.

As a writer, he obtained awards at the Poetry Competition of Barcelona (Jocs Florals de Barcelona), in 1894 with The Stone Crosses of Catalonia (Les creus de pedra a Catalunya) and in 1897 with Determination of the Natural and Historic Regions of Catalonia (Determinació de les comarques naturals i històriques de Catalunya), among others.

Norbert Font i Sagué nació y murió en Barcelona (1874-1910).

- The last exposure before turning off the camera at Hvaler, southern coast of Norway.

Just finished with a series during sunset, I almost didn`t bother when finding this scene on the trail to my car. Well, I could not resist creating something special that night and one thing led to another.

It turned out to be one of my favorites during the whole night.
