The National Geographic Society considers the coastal area of southern Peru to be part of the Atacama Desert and includes the deserts south of the Ica Region in Peru. However, other sources consider that the part of the desert in Peru is a different ecosystem, and should properly be named as Pampas de la Joya desert.

Ica -Huacachina Lagoon 20221119

Huacachina is centred on a lagoon with lush vegetation, all in the world's driest desert. Nestled between the largest sand dunes in South America, it is the continent's only natural oasis.

Huacachina is located in south-western Peru, on the edge of the Atacama Desert. It is located about 5 kilometres from the city of Ica.

The oasis is formed by water from underground aquifers that seeps through the sand and encourages the growth of palms, eucalyptus and carob trees around the pool. The lagoon, which covers less than a hectare, is surrounded by businesses, hotels and restaurants on its edge. The oasis town has a population of about 100 annual residents. In recent years, the water level in the lagoon has decreased due to the drilling of nearby wells and increased evaporation during hot summers. As a result, the city has started to pump water into the lagoon from external sources.

It came to me searching for a new home and the possibility to get used for what it was made: taking pictures.

In its kindness it brought 4 double pop on holders, a second lens Tesssr 6,8 / 18cm all packed in the original leather suitcase.

So I think that my search for the - for me - perfect vintage view camera has and end.

My girlfriend could be happy...

We were quite surprised to know that close to Lima, the capital city of Peru was a desert town of Ica. This desert has a small oasis call Huacachina. Though full of tourists, foreign and local, we spent a couple of fun days here. Climbing up the sand dunes and sand boarding down.
