i had to change the title of this from "memek" which is traditional Balinese ... to Ibu which is Indonesain, as when you google "memek" you get pages and pages of porn, and i didn't want my mother inlaw to be in amongst that!!
An old javanese lady sitting in the market waiting for someone. She covered her hair with a hand-made white cap, a muslim probably. The scarf around her shoulder is a multipurpose piece of batik cloth. She can put around her head to protect the sun or tie on top of her head like a turban to carry things. She can tie around her waist as a belt. When there are things to carry she can wrapped into a bundle and carry diagonally like she is wearing now. It is also commonly used to carry baby. Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
