a bit of an experiment for me -- i made my first water windlight which I named Palette Experiment.

menu: World: Environment Editor: Water Presets: New Preset

Fog and Wave: Water Fog Color: this is going to be the dominant color of the water. I set mine to a bright emerald green

red: 49 ; green: 184; blue: 92

Reflection: Normal map

this is the ripples, so it looks for a texture. I did a search for ripple and found a texture "water ripple". It's in the Linden Library

The rest of the stuff I left as they were.

Fog Density Exponent: 0.5

Underwater Fog Modifier: 0.25

Big Wave Direction

X 0.89

Y 0.53

Little Wave Direction

X -0.47

Y -0.11

I liked the way it came out.

It’s a desperately sad fact that koalas in Queensland, where I live, are now listed as an endangered species. Their numbers continue to decline as a result of habitat loss due to land clearing for development and farming, climate events like bushfires and drought, and disease.

Spring is mating season for koalas and I was lucky to spot two of them in the same tree in our local area where it’s estimated there are around 40 living in a conservation zone. But even this area is now under threat of housing redevelopment which would mean the further destruction of precious habitat for the koalas, kangaroos and other wildlife. The developers and local authorities will have a fight on their hands. I am getting ready for battle.

I wish we humans would stop destroying our environment for short term gain.

I wish that rain would fall over here.

I wish I’d have been here in 1972 when the cult horror film the ‘Wicker Man’ was being filmed. This beautiful cottage is the Old Schoolhouse at Anwoth, near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It was used as Miss Rose’s schoolhouse in the film as was the Old Kirk, directly opposite. Anwoth is the most beautiful and atmospheric little hamlet and every time I go there, I am transported back to the film! The Old Schoolhouse is now a holiday cottage.

Last weekend I went to Llanddwyn Island, again. It's a favourite place. I would like it to be my final resting place. But not yet. I've got unfinished business.

Unofficially I renamed it "I wish Island" because I wish... and I threw a message in a bottle into the water. It set me day-dreaming. The island has that effect on me.

And today I got a surprise, so much out of the blue that I am still reeling. A nice surprise, so utterly unexpected, that it later got me thinking about surprises. They happen all the time, good and bad but what should we make of them? I sought out some greater wisdom, and found these words:

"Surprise is the greatest gift which life can grant us". Yup. I've got to agree with that.

"A story to me means a plot where there is some surprise. Because that is how life is - full of surprises". I love a story with twists and surprises.

"The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us". Very true

"I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of life". Yes I think I am tolerant and fairly patient

"There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved: It is God's finger on man's shoulder". Yes, I feel that one.

"About myself I have no great illusions. I know what I am. I know what I'm good at. I know what I ain't. I'm always hoping to surprise myself. But I do know how to smile and I do love to communicate it, and that's the best I can do, really". Yes, I certainly try!

"Now we're e-mailing and tweeting and texting so much, a Christmas card comes as a fresh surprise. I get text messages on my cell phone all day long, and it warbles to alert me that someone has sent me a communication on Facebook or a reply or direct message on Twitter, but the postman hardly ever rings". Unless you are a very lucky boy.

You see the surprise unhinged me, and I'm rambling now!
