Early snow on the Pennine hills . Gragareth on the left facing Ingleborough

A coyote, making its way through the meadow on a bright overcast morning, stopped occasionally to gaze in my direction, perhaps it was not comfortable with what was pointing at it.

I took this shot in early June. It is quite surprising that this individual still had some winter coat around the neck and shoulder. But I think the shedding should be completed pretty soon.

Residents have been flocking to this tropical island paradise for its beautiful views and innovative wave system for years. A great place to relax and listen to the tide crash on the shore.

Short Eared Owl - Asio flammeus

Norfolk

Over much of its range, short-eared owls occurs with the similar-looking long-eared owl. At rest, the ear-tufts of long-eared owl serve to easily distinguish the two (although long-eared owls can sometimes hold its ear-tufts flat). The iris-colour differs: yellow in short-eared, and orange in long-eared, and the black surrounding the eyes is vertical on long-eared, and horizontal on short-eared. Overall the short-eared tends to be a paler, sandier bird than the long-eared.

The short-eared owl occurs on all continents except Antarctica and Australia; thus it has one of the most widespread distributions of any bird. A. flammeus breeds in Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Galápagos Islands. It is partially migratory, moving south in winter from the northern parts of its range. The short-eared owl is known to relocate to areas of higher rodent populations. It will also wander nomadically in search of better food supplies during years when vole populations are low.

Hunting occurs mostly at night, but this owl is known to be diurnal and crepuscular as well. Its daylight hunting seems to coincide with the high-activity periods of voles, its preferred prey. It tends to fly only feet above the ground in open fields and grasslands until swooping down upon its prey feet-first. Several owls may hunt over the same open area. Its food consists mainly of rodents, especially voles, but it will eat other small mammals such as mice, ground squirrels, shrews, rats, bats, muskrats and moles. It will also occasionally predate smaller birds, especially when near sea-coasts and adjacent wetlands at which time they attack shorebirds, terns and small gulls and seabirds with semi-regularity. Avian prey is more infrequently preyed on inland and centers on passerines such as larks, icterids, starlings, tyrant flycatchers and pipits.

Saône river's front with its multicolored facades made marvelous reflections in the water at sunset. The view has a lot of character, except for an ugly concrete tower on the right that clashes within Macon's skyline.

It is the departmental archives tower. Built in the 1960s, 50 meters high ((164 ft) on 22 levels, it received in June 2025 the “Heritage of the 20th century” label. Its architect, whom I will not mention, does not deserve congratulations for the bad taste of this construction. Modern towers can be much more beautiful.

But at the time, such concrete horrors were often built. Asbestos was also used extensively as an insulator. People then thougt these towers had all the virtues.

I generally avoid this ugliness in photos, but, even if one can regret it, it's part of the city's skyline. Moreover, it was difficult here to do otherwise, because I wanted to show you most of the Saône river's front from the Saint-Laurent bridge.

Nature takes its course.

The Precursors of Spring have returned.

Storks usually migrate back from their winter quarters in Spain, the Mediterranean and North Africa in March.

There are more and more white storks in Baden-Württemberg - also because many stop taking the dangerous trip to Africa in winter.

Here in Germany’s southwest -as well as in the nearby Alsace (France)-

storks have always been celebrated as good-luck symbols, heraldic coat of arms motifs, all-around fabulous creatures, certainly much more than just quaint and interesting flying beasts.

Due to COVID-19, the borders between Germany and France are closed...

I live very close to the Alsace region I like so very much.

The Southern Alsace is heavily hit by the Pandemic too,

Sending my best wishes to our neighbours.

Prenez soin de vous, tous mes amis français ♥

Fact is, for centuries, people have felt fortunate to have storks nesting on their roofs. At that time people believed that they protect the house from fire, lightning and other natural and even man-made disasters. Storks tend to return to the same nesting place often with the same partner, year after year!

Wizard Falls streams down the Metolius River as autumn colors burnish its banks in gold, amber and red. Not a plunge falls but more of a deep gorge sliced between volcanic rocks that form its bed, Wizard Falls resembles more of a rapids.

Berzé-le-Châtel at the end of the Val Lamartinien is a stunning medieval fortress built from the 10th century, superbly preserved, and with magnificent gardens.

From the top of its ramparts, the view extends over the entire Val Lamartinien practically as far as Mâcon, and the Roches de Solutré and Vergisson stand out in the distance.

** Its rather sad to be posting the final shot from a trip but this is the last one from the road trip we took in 2016 . We drove from Santa Fe to New Orleans via parts of Texas . Certainly saw quite a range of different landscapes and cultures .

One of the highlights was spending time at Jefferson Island in Louisiana . Roseate Spoonbills are certainly the oddest birds I have ever seen and it was a good opportunity to see large group of them close up . I am in debt to two flickr contacts Cajun Snapper and Larry Daugherty who gave me hints and directions to a small pool on Jefferson Island.

Well that’s the end of travel shots from 2016 so will be posting stuff from 2017 soon. Its a good job I am so far behind given that this year does not look like it will be adding a great deal to my travel collection

THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH. ANYONE MAKING MULTIPLE FAVES WITHOUT COMMENTS WILL SIMPLY BE BLOCKED

Blue-tailed Bee-eater tossing its dragonfly meal before swallowing.

If I could stick my pen in my heart

And spill it all over the stage

Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya

Would you think the boy is strange? Ain't he strange?

If I could win ya, if I could sing ya

A love song so divine

Would it be enough for your cheating heart

If I broke down and cried? If I cried?

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it

I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

If I could stick a knife in my heart

Suicide right on stage

Would it be enough for your teenage lust

Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?

If I could dig down deep in my heart

Feelings would flood on the page

Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya

Would ya think the boy's insane? He's insane

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I said I know it's only rock'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it

I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

And do ya think that you're the only girl around?

I bet you think that you're the only woman in town

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it. I like it

I like it, I like it

I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Ooh, I like that

(Only rock and roll, but) Ooh yeah, I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Yeah, I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Oh yeah, I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Oh yeah, but I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Yeah, I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Oh yeah, but I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Oh I, I like it

(Only rock and roll, but) Oh yeah, I like it

Yeah, I like it

Oh, I like it

Oh, I like it

Ooh yeah, I like that

Lots of lovely mushies and toadstools popping up now ! : o )

Its 7.34am on 23.10.2008 and a sky to behold as the sun rises over Thornham on the North Norfolk coast. The Pink Footed Geese are on the move and the red sky begins to fade.

Its been raining all weekend.but this morning a rainbow appeared not far from my place..and then rain again..

I hope you at least have a sunny Sunday ;-)

..Explored..Thank you all..

Nothing like a hog between your legs on a crisp autumn day. Even better if you have a Loki hanging off the back. Loved this shot.

LM: Coming Soon

Its time for the line queue at the classic maple in the Portland Japanese garden. The line queue was not so bad when I got there. I have tried a few different years to get this at its optimum time. I came close this year, but still not quite ripe. I plan to visit again next week to see if its closer to flat-out-crazy. In the mean time, this one should help you get into Fall. Enjoy.

Its close after sunrise at the shore of the Vatterfjorden near Svolvear on the Lofoten Islands. Its cold and its silent. The valley is still in the shadows of the mountains. The sun is reaching only their peaks. The perfect place to come to rest and collect yourself.

Barred Owl realignment..

This is Jamesmoor Pond in the New Forest, a great location for a winter sunset.

A bit of a rush job as I left home a bit late. This was pretty much taken on arrival with the lens I had on my camera.

The lake was completely frozen over which shows how cold it was that day, bearing in mind this was sunset not sunrise.

It would have been better, I think, if I had put my wide angled lens on and taken this from a lower angle closer to the ice.

Always room for improvement!

Have a great weekend x

its ok to say it over and over .. ho ho

and to those who don't celebrate . happy holidays .

An American White Pelican joining its buddies ✔️

The secretive Gray Catbird, with its distinctive cat-like

mewing note, is a common winter resident in Florida.

Many pass through the state during migration.

Gray Catbirds are one of the most common species that non-birders in their range are likely to have never seen nor identified. The catbird’s rather bland coloration – slate gray with a black cap and chestnut under the tail – doesn’t attract attention, and unlike their cousins, the mockingbirds, that often sing from exposed perches, catbirds prefer to sing their jumbled songs from cover. And it is the sounds that catbirds make that give them their name and makes it at all likely that their presence will be noted.

Gray Catbirds, to put it simply, have a call note that sounds like a cat with a scratchy and short meow. This sound emanating from a tangle of brush can easily fool those not in the know. The song of the Gray Catbird, however, is nothing like a cat meowing: like the mockingbird and thrasher the catbird often mimics other birds and sounds but it tends not to repeat itself. The rule of thumb is that if a phrase is repeated three times in a row it is a mockingbird, it it is repeated twice a thrasher is singing, and if each phrase of the song is sang just once one is dealing with a catbird.

I found this one in my backyard in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida.
