With the happiness held in one inch-square heart you can fill the whole space between heaven and earth.
(Gensei: 1623-1668)
Spent a (too short) wonderful day in Fribourg last Sunday, where the Schubertiade 2007 took place. - We were nearly out of the town already when I was lifting my eyes once more to take in this one single sunflower in an open window and I saw the heart that the late afternoon sun was painting on the white curtain....
It was the greatest gift of this special day and I am happy to share it with you.
Avec des gros bisous pour Isabelle - Isa13, qui - je crois - vient de Fribourg et qui était peut-être aussi au festival. Visit her small but precious collection here!

FRIENDSHIP: A ship big enough to carry two in fair weather, but only one in foul.
Ambrose Bierce
Français:
Amitié. Bateau suffisamment grand pour transporter deux personnes quand il fait beau, mais une seule en cas de mauvais temps.
Yesterday I met an extraordinary person – one of those rare and oh so rewarding moments that make me crawl back to Flickr, although I really don’t like ‘it’ anymore.... I commented on a photo and we corresponded by mail, then – when I mentioned that I am presently in the region he took his wonderful shots – he suggested to come and pick me up for a get-together. We both knew we would know each other immediately as we described ourselves honestly and fittingly! :-)
Jacques (Diegojack) surprised me greatly by taking me in his car for a tour of the Lavaux, my ‘dream-homeland’ – stopping every now and then to allow us to take pictures and admire God’s nature. Blessed are the people who are allowed by good luck and/or destiny to live in this incredibly beautiful region. Of course, I’ve told you on numerous occasions that the whole Lavaux is a World Heritage Site; see here for Unesco info on the LAVAUX & video on the wineyards and terraces. (tout cela aussi en français bien sur!)
I was just so lucky to have found some rather outstanding friends – some of them sadly ‘only’ ever virtual, p.ex. Marah (mren desien) – others I met several times and intend to stay in contact forever: Isabelle (isa13) and close-by Barbara (overthemoon)
Jacques offered me one of the most precious gifts one can offer nowadays – his time, experience, friendship! Thank you for visiting him today and marvel at his photos. When I told him that many of my friends are not ‘shareable’ because he doesn’t speak English, he said: That might be just as well, as I have already so many French speaking contacts I’d like to keep in contact with... :) He does know however that you can put a translator-bar on top of your websites. So HE can read this too!!!!
In the evening we (not Jacques and me but Hero Husband and your humble curly-head...) took a 3h cruise on one of those fantastastic paddle-steamer ships from the fleet Belle Epoque – what an experience! It was a night with a full moon too... in the fancy restaurant on the 1st class deck, travellers can eat marvellous food & we ‘lowly people’ came along with our picnic basket and enjoyed our home-prepared ‘dinner’ just as much as did the people who paid a small fortune for their meal. WE did however have a rare treat from a bottle – if there is one thing the French know how to do best, it’s the wine making business (see the bottle label on the mosaic hereunder).

A collection of patchwork bits and quilting stuff for my two wonderful friends ISABELLE Isa13 and BARBARA J. (Exeter, Devon UK)....
Most shots of this assembly were taken at this magic place here when Barbie took me out for a day of Eye-Delights and -Candies..... (If you'd like, please look up this!)
And I promised then (end of April 2007) to make a quilt-mosaic for Isabelle.... Good things take a long while, we say in Switzerland but honestly, it needn't take SO long!!!
The central mini quilt is my personal THANK YOU to Isabelle - She sent me a lovely card with two mini quilts, the one you see here was for my son '... the blue because he loves the colour blue and the gold to send him some sunshine'..... (here's the story!)
I added a pretty but damaged shell I found at Torquay's sea shore to her little landscape of love and thoughts. The shell contains a tiny pebble in a hole which was torn by the sea, showing with this that even when things are far from being perfect, there is still beauty in everything and there always remains hope for a better place.... (maybe much) later on!
My son has grown with this bitter experience but he hasn't become bitter. He knows now even better what to look out for and whom to avoid in his future life... As I said: There is always a bright side to every dark experience - have faith and patience!

I would like to THANK YOU from my whole heart to my dear friends ISABELLE (isa13) and Marah (mrendesign) for their wonderful birthday cards they sent me. I feel bad about not having been able to thank you both before, i have been head over heel in 'playing' hostess, going to doctor and dentist, overlooking the last renovation work of the house, running here and there ..... which of course isn't a worthy excuse but a try of explaining.... You warmed my heart and lifted my spirits.... My birthday was not a great success with going to both, doctor and dentist, with the strikes and the arrival of a Swiss guest - husband being abroad and nothing going on... Anyway - I felt very special thanks to your signs of love. Thank You!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS - JOYEUX NOEL - GESEGNETE WEIHNACHTEN
This mosaic holds some of my faves - favorites by some of my most appreciated photographers.
I have already now realized that I have forgotten, resp. overlooked when uploading these two mosaics some of my very appreciated contacts… I hang my head in shame but am too tired to re-start. I shall make sure that I won't forget them the next time!
THANK YOU so much for making me a happy, addicted and slowly improving flickerite!
If you are NOT amongst them, don't feel bad - This mosaic only holds 13 pictures, my heart is MUCH bigger!
Some words to the 'authors':
# 1 - Alex / Algo - My probably most admired photographer - Just go and see for yourself.
# 2 - Germaine / Couleursgm - One of my very first contacts, I noted Germaine because of her wonderful window collection and through my other friend Isabelle. Although she is French spoken, we get along in English too… :-)
# 3 - Linda / Lynnieb - She commented already when I didn't realize what an outstanding woman she is…
# 4 - Isabelle / Isa13 - Isabelle's pictures would fill a whole album within my faves… Met twice since getting to know her photos, know her quilts too now, and her dog! And a bit of her great heart and mind. She wants me to write in French, which is fine by me except that I would comment more often if my brain wouldn't have to work so hard.
# 5 - Terri / Terri_Llynn - who sponsored my pro-account and has been an inspiration since.
# 6 - Saskia / buikschuiver - Provider of the most gorgeous dachshund photos I have ever seen
# 7 - Turquoise / turquoise_bleue - A very early and inspiring contact too
# 8 - Barbara / overthemoon - Another love story with a happy continuation. Met her in the flesh (!) in November - She 'made' me starting to upload - Hallelujah, never looked back since.
# 9 - Wayne / 0 W8ing - Find out for yourself where he's got that unusual artist's name but learn it. He is my second most inspiring photographer and I mostly only say AMEN to his works of art.
#10 - Michelle / pagnolle - One of the growing numbers of French speaking friends on flickr. Michelle is a relative latecomer but Boy is she worth getting to know her. She is such a generous commentator, always positive and leads her camera with a knowing hand. Merci ma chère amie.
#11 - Sean / flopper - A man with a love for many things I like too and a great one for notes to pictures showing his sense of humour. An early contributor to my photos.
#12 - Lauri / flutterbye856 - One of my first and foremost friends too, inspiring, enormous creativity and ALWAYS commenting.
#13 - Saskia / funnyfish - One of her photos was my first favorit. She proved 'worthy' of my checking her work ever since.

An easy way of being creative (as if we all weren't that anyway, being on flickr.... hey hoo!) - I add here the link for those who didn't realize I wasn't talking about the mosaic function, but the funky new BEADS creation: bighugelabs.com/flickr/beads.php
I would like to dedicate this mosaic to my two wonderfully creative friends
Isabelle Isa13, active and creative on flickr
Barbara J., from Exeter (UK), my personal English Quilting Queen (not yet crowned but that's only a matter of time!).
Barbara met Isa' through my flickring...! Amazing, isn't it...
Now we try to get the three of us (from UK, Valais & Vaud, Switzerland) together once or twice an year for brainstorming, fun, cuddling Mouchette, Isabelle's dog, enjoy the best of cellar and cupboard (last time we had Isa's homemade preserves (confitures), wine, a full English Tea, made by Barbie and a few bits and bobs from my household)
THANK YOU my dearest friends for being there and around. I very much look forward to seeing both of you again soon.
By the way, the tulips are part of a large bunch I bought for my husband's birthday (he saw them for about 3 minutes before he took off again....). They turned from a very elegant purple to this feathery, transparent and very tired dark mauve. The stems folded gracefully over the rim of a large blue vase and the petals are holding on to the stems by the skin of their teeth.... I guess by the end of this day, they will join another bunch of flowers in the bin.
Don't you just all LOVE TULIPS?

OK, I admit it, Andrea is not a celebrity but she surely looked like one last weekend!!
If you like historical fiction this is a fantastic book. It almost got on the BC high school curriculum reading list but was mysteriously nixed by the BC government...something like the mysteries of Explore!!
Inspired by isa13's book photos...a reader/photograper's dream. If you have a moment I recommend checking out her equally wonderful photostream.

This cold, windy and grey winter can't put me down
I jot down with colors and warmth of spring to come
I collect all the memories of crocus, lillies and daffodills
and arrange them in pages to come
in my Spring Book.
EXPLORE #50 -Thank You so much!!
Thank You, Emma Goldman, for the title to this photo and your quote!
I got a fair bunch of prickly, tiny pink roses on the market today. They were really cheap (CHF 5.-- or about £2.20 or €3.20) because the petals were damaged by the frequent ravaging storms we had during the last few nights. Me being me, I HAD to have them, it's like seeing a single chair which needs a home; give me damaged flowers and I have to save them from the bin.... :) Sad, I know but as I said, that's me.
Home I went, together with an arm full of equally 'invalid' delphinium in an array of the most amazing colours, dark tinty blue, nearly violet, purple, blue, light blue, white with dark and even reddish hues, and some with sprinkles of gold...
Now, I have two vases filled with my beauties, an old English jug with a sort of a Delft design carries the pinkies with the shortest stems of my lacy delphiniums and a large, blue glass vase filled with the delphiniums. It's a look into paradise on a small scale!
Would like to dedicate these here to four exceptional friends on flickr. All of them love pink, or tiny roses or I just feel they would:
Catherine my absolutely most amazing and surprising 'new' flickr find :)
Isabelle an 'old' and trusted friend whom I found through flickr and with whom I'd like to meet up again soon!
Denise for when I can't give her anything with clouds, kids or blue hues.... and
Linda although she is right now in a rather green phase (green like GARDEN stuff....)!
PLEASE view those wonderful photographers' work, they are more than worth your time!!

View them larger, although for once, the REAL original is smaller, even tiny in fact.... :) right here

It's my dear, dear friend Isabelle isa13's birthday on Sunday. She is like this magnificent poppy flower: a beauty of many colours with an exquisite and warm heart, slightly ruffled by life but oh so lively, loosing maybe a bit of her outward beauty from time to time but with an easy breath she shakes off the dust of her daily burdens. She doesn't mind losing a petal and often suffers a heavy loss when helping somebody else and in all this, her inner beauty and personality get even more stunning ---> you just will have to take the time to get to know her and you'll fully agree with me!
Joyeux anniversaire, ma belle et tendre amie. J'ai beaucoup appris de toi et je te souhaite une nouvelle année de ta vie remplie de bonheur, de joies, et peu, très peu de chagrins...! Je t'adore!
Isabelle is like one of these here:
Scatter seeds of kindness everywhere you go;
Scatter bits of courtesy - watch them grow and grow.
Gather buds of friendship, keep them till full-blown;
You will have more happiness than you have ever known.
Amy R. Raabe
I know I have used that quote before; but I love it so much that it will show up again and again - and just like Isabelle, this one 'giant' poppy flower gave me happiness from the moment a friend offered it to me from their garden, during the time of opening of the huge bud, watching it unfolding the crinkled silky dancing frock, follow it from being a stunning beauty to losing the first petal WHILE I took some photos - tomorrow I shall lie it to rest, the last petal is just about ready to fall too and I shall keep the seed pod in the vague hope to saw them next spring.... Poppies don't like to grow in my garden but they love it in the dusty, unkept and neglected border along the street! Interesting, isn't it?!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend, Happy Scarlet Sunday to all of you!
