First flown with the Airbus test registration D-AVYC, this aircraft was delivered to Swissair as HB-IPT in Sep-97. It was sold to a lessor on delivery and leased back to Swissair. Swissair ceased operations on 31-Mar-02 and the aircraft was transferred to Crossair who initially continued limited operations. Crossair was renamed Swiss International Airlines in Jul-02. It was permanently retired at St. Athan, Wales, UK in Mar-20.

Eggocentrics were one of several lines of caricature airplanes. Tukwila, Washington's IPT introduced these plastic toy model kits in 1975. They were sold in small hobby shops in the mid-to-late 1970s. Regardless of the aircraft type each model intended to represent, they all featured the same snap-together upper and lower egg shaped fuselages and wings. Spherical "landing gear" were a peculiar feature. Normally, Eggocentrics came with labels printed on clear tape. The DC-10 in McDonnell-Douglas prototype colors is from that firm's gift catalogue in 1979, and features printed details.
