just chilling - Iolo at his first festival - taking it all in his stride!

Pryd o fwyd o fy mhlentyndod... Gwichiaid. Llawer o waith i gadw mi yn brysyr ac yn ddistaw. Dywedir y geiriadur bod tarddiad yr enw yn golygu: plygu; troi; cordeddu. Oherwydd siap y gragen, neu siap yr anifail ar ol tynnu o'r gragen? A dim byd i wneud a sŵn gwichian.

Bwyd mor, yn y gorffenol, bwyd pobol tlawd... Mae Iolo Goch yn pardduo y Gwyddelod yn eu linell:

"Gwyddal amal gocs ith blant" - Pobol bwyta cocos, tlawd. Ond y peth ydi fod bwyd mor, o unrhyw fath, yn llawn daioni.

As a child, I would collect these, and my Nain would cook them, and then we would take a pin to pull them from the shell... a lot of work... I suspect, to keep me quiet? My Nain would know if her neighbour was in some financial difficulty, as her sons would be collecting coal sacks full of winkles, on every tide. If you see someone doing this, don't bother them, it's backbreaking work, against the clock.

These winkles were very tasty, my Nain, doused them in malt vinegar, but my wife, in balsamic. And i boiled them in lager. After collecting them you wash them in cold water, then leave them to stand in salted water for half an hour or so, then boil them for 3 to 6 minutes depending on how many are in the pan, other methods on the web. There is a technique to winkling them out with a pin, you should be able to figure it out. Get as many children as possible, who can be trusted with a pin, to help with this. A safety pin, or a paper clip, is a good choice, easier to hold. There is no R in the month, my Nain, only applied this rule to mussels and cockles. I had not eaten these since my childhood - it was on seeing the little doors on the shells, the operculum, all over my fingers and the table, that brought the memories back.

1st August 2016 at Ham Marquee, Sidmouth.

Sidmouth Folk Week.

Country: Britain - Wales. Style: Welsh / InterCeltic Folk.

Lineup: Jamie Smith (v/piano accordion), Oliver Wilson-Dickson (fiddle), Ron Juppy (g), Matt Downer (b/bass g), Iolo Whelan (d).

This group started out in 1999 as Mabon playiing tunes of mainly Welsh music. The acoustic quartet included Jamie Smith and Iolo Whelan, plus the former's father and latter's brother. Then came Whelan's move to a drum kit, the adding of the bass, Smith taking up singing, a focus on Smith's compositions and the change of name. They call their music "InterCeltic" to acknowlege influnces from various countries, though they carry on doing some songs in Welsh as well as English.

"Boscawen-Ûn (grid reference SW412273) is a Bronze Age stone circle close to St Buryan in Cornwall, UK. It consists of nineteen upright stones in an ellipse with another, leaning, middle stone just south of the centre. There is a west-facing gap in the circle, which may have formed an entrance. The elliptical circle has diameters 24.9 and 21.9 metres (82 and 72 ft). It is located at grid reference SW412274.

"The Gorseth Kernow was inaugurated here in 1928. An old Welsh triad mentions one of the three principal gorseddau of the Island of Britain as 'Beisgawen yn Nyfnwal' (Boscawen in Dumnonia), which was taken to refer to Boscawen-Ûn by the Gorseth's founders. That Welsh triad dates to only the 18th century when it was made up by Iolo Morganwg, Edward Williams.

Hello amazing theatrical types. Thanks for the magical performance at The Witham today. The girls really enjoyed it - particular favourite bits were Luna's voice, the space trip and the stars... I just noticed the word COMPETITION on this photo of Betty and Elsie very happily posed with Pig! I wonder if I put this here whether we have entered and what we might win.

Two pistol bows and a pretty bow by Iolo...
