In the heart of Vietnam’s rice fields, Thu Sy village preserves the ancient art of fish trapping and rural simplicity. For centuries, its people have lived in harmony with nature, passing down traditions through craft and daily rituals.

In this scene, three artisans appear arranged like a living painting: hands weaving, a man quietly smoking, and a rooster intent on pecking at food in a bowl. Every detail speaks of patience, identity, and heritage — a timeless portrait of community life.

I've become such a subtly different artist than I used to be. It's a thrill. Once I was lured by falsities of audience validation. Once I believed my worth to be tied to productivity. It wasn't long ago. A year? A month ago? And now?

I see myself intertwined with my past self, my future self. In that embrace of old and new there is no shame. If you feel shame in your transformation, let it go. It has no place in the work we are doing to become who we are meant to be.

I am a patchwork. I see it in the roles I embody minute to minute.

Mother. Daughter. Sister. Wife.

Photographer. Writer. Sculptor. Painter.

Entrepreneur. Educator. Speaker. Mentor.

In all my roles: dreamer.

In dreaming: discovery.

In discovery: curiosity.

In everything: enough.

To make this image, I photographed myself in many positions with slight variations in angle to ensure different pieces would fit together. Creating shadows was key to making the pieces fit naturally. Suspension of belief was key to fitting them together in the first place.

A surrealist quilt of flesh. Frankensteined - which is to say: sewn with hope, flawed, human. Just like my life. Just like yours. Sewn with hope. Flawed. Human.

Overall view of the old theater again, this time with natural light through holes in the roof instead of floodlights and a 35mm lens instead of the superwide. Note the E and the S intertwined in the herald over the stage … “Everett Square.”

Dumbarton

AI Article

The timber pond on the River Clyde at Dumbarton Foreshore is a fascinating remnant of Scotland’s maritime and shipbuilding heritage.

What Was the Timber Pond?

Timber ponds were used extensively during the heyday of wooden shipbuilding along the Clyde. These man-made enclosures allowed massive quantities of imported timber—primarily from North America—to be stored, seasoned, and sorted before use in ship construction. The ponds kept the logs from drifting away and helped organize them by type, ownership, and how long they'd been seasoned.

Dumbarton Foreshore Site

At Dumbarton Foreshore, you can still see the remains of one such timber pond. The site features vertical wooden posts protruding from the mud, marking the outlines of the old pond. Looking upstream from this location, you’ll spot Dumbuck Hill to the left and the Erskine Bridge in the distance—a picturesque view steeped in industrial history.

Historical Significance

Timber ponds were most active in the 19th century, with the Clyde seeing tens of thousands of tons of timber imported annually by the 1830s.

Their use declined with the rise of steel shipbuilding and the advent of kiln-drying technology, which replaced the need for natural seasoning in mudflats.

If you're ever in the area, it's worth a visit—not just for the history, but for the quiet beauty of a place where nature and industry once intertwined.

Everything is connected.

Happy Monday :)

This is one image in a series focusing on black vases in a limbo setting. It's a simple idea really, black on black with just enough light to reveal curves, lines and shapes. Along with the vases, a flower or two. If you would like to view more in this series, click on this link: Black Vases Series

I love those curves, and they look so different in different light at different times of year...
