I went to the Tokyo International Forum to check out the Oedo Antique Market. I've been to the market before, but never explored the building itself, which is fantastic. This time the market was canceled because of the light rain, so I finally enjoyed the building itself... and obviously got a bit carried away.

ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti has started training at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, USA. Set to launch for her second mission in spring 2022, Samantha is already getting reacquainted with International Space Station systems in a series of refresher courses.

Samantha was last on the International Space Station in 2014 for her Futura mission. She spent 200 days in space, conducting European and international scientific experiments and Space Station operations.

In the coming months, her schedule will intensify as she trains for the specific experiments and tasks she will perform in space during her second mission.

As a collaborative, international effort between the United States, Europe, Canada, Russia and Japan, Space Station training takes place across the globe. Samantha will be training between Johnson Space Center in the USA, the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Star City, Russia and the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.

Samantha and her fellow Class of 2009 astronauts will soon welcome new colleagues. For the first time in over a decade, the European Space Agency is seeking new astronauts and applications are open from 31 March to 28 May 2021. A six-stage selection process will start thereafter. This is expected to be completed in October 2022.

Ready to make #YourWayToSpace? Check out the dedicated website with all the information relating to ESA’s 2021–22 astronaut selection.

Most importantly, get ready to apply. Perhaps you will find yourself where Samantha is today.

PENTAX 645D

I am so excited about Pentax announcing their new 645D camera with a sensor size of 14.52cm squared and a resolution of 40 megapixels, they are offering it for only $10,000 USD which is a really big cut below the competition's price! The Hasselblad H4D-40 has the exact same sensor size and resolution but is sold at $20,000 USD which is twice the price of the new Pentax. The Mamiya DM40 also has the exact same sensor size and resolution but is being offered at $22,000 USD which is more than twice the price of the Pentax. The new Leica S2 has a sensor slightly smaller at 13.5cm squared and a resolution of 37.5 megapixels, but costs $28,000 USD which is nearly 3 times the amount of the new Pentax. I think that this new Pentax might do to the larger format digital market what the Nikon D1 did to the digital SLR market in 1999, and greatly bring down the prices of these cameras to a more "affordable" price because $20,000+ for a camera plus sensor sounds ridiculous. Also this new Pentax has complete weather sealing and 11 autofocus points, 9 of them are cross types. It also has a 98% accurate viewfinder and dual memory card slots. The only real letdown for me is the shutter life, which is rated for only 50,000 actuations. My Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS is rated for 100,000 actuations and I would expect a longer lasting shutter mechanism for this price. Then again, most of these high-end large sensored D-SLRs seem to have mediocre shutter lives compared to mainstream D-SLRs, I wonder why that is...

I shot this on a tripod using mirror lockup, a polarizing filter, and a 2Sec. selftimer. This image is composed of three exposures, one average exposure, one 1 stop overexposed, and one 1 stop underexposed. I opened the RAW files in Photomatix Pro and tone mapped them to my liking. Then I used ACR to polish up the 16 bit TIFF file and opened it in CS4 where I removed some dust spots and added my watermark.

One of the six International Glaciers along the Beagle Channel outside of Ushuaia, Argentina.

Beagle Channel is a strait separating islands of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, in extreme southern South America. It separates Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego from several smaller islands to the south. Its eastern portion is part of the border between Chile and Argentina, but the western part is completely within Chile. Beagle Channel is about 150 miles long and is about three miles wide at its narrowest point. To the west the Darwin Sound connects it to the Pacific Ocean. Although it is navigable by large ships, there are safer waters to the south (Drake Passage) and to the north (Strait of Magellan). Several small islands (Picton, Lennox and Nueva) near the eastern end were the subject of a long-running territorial dispute between Chile and Argentina; by the terms of a 1984 treaty they are now part of Chile whilst Argentina has most maritime rights.

The biggest settlement on the channel is Ushuaia in Argentina followed by Puerto Williams in Chile.

The channel is named after the ship HMS Beagle which was involved in two hydrographic surveys of the coasts of the southern part of South America in the early 19th century. During the first, under the overall command of the Australian Commander Phillip Parker King, the Beagle's captain Pringle Stokes committed suicide and was replaced by captain Robert FitzRoy. The second is better known as the voyage of the Beagle and is famous because captain FitzRoy took Charles Darwin along as a gentleman's companion, giving him opportunities as an amateur naturalist. International Klein Blue.

How to change the meaning of an art work. The IKB art work is large piece of art filled the famous blue from Yves Klein. But an accident happens in Bruxelles where a visitor step into the blue... so at the next exhibition (in Rodez), they decided to add a safe guard which is a large band of white tape. Looking at it, it's really changing the meaning of the art work.
