Water playground "frog spawn" Neckarbogen Heilbronn

High, green shimmering steel posts with attached plastic balls symbolize reed stalks with deposited frog spawn. You can climb in the partially interconnected plastic balls. Climbing ropes are stretched between the posts and condense into swings and nets. Together they take up the idea of the metamorphosis from tadpole to frog and create an unmistakable image.

Home on the Desert's Rooftop is one of many attractions at the El Morro National Monument in New Mexico.

The Puebloans, smart farmers of the high desert, were master builders. Atsinna Pueblo, the largest of the pueblos atop El Morro, dates from about 1275. Its builders made use of what they had around them: flat sedimentary rock easily cut up as slabs they could pile one on top of another and cement with clay and pebbles.

According to the National Park Service, ~ 355 interconnected room structure is buried under the ground, which was occupied by 500-600 people. Currently, 18-room structure has been excavated.

If this is fully excavated, it could be American Machu Pichu, but the park ranger said, no plan for further excavation.

Completed in 2015, The Diamond was built to be the new home for the Department of Engineering at the University of Sheffield. It took two years to build, at a cost of £81 million. The six-floor building takes its name from its unique facade, which comprises a cellular pattern of interconnected diamond shapes made of anodised aluminium, inspired by the form of diamond at a molecular level, over a frame of reinforced concrete and exterior glass cladding.

Composed of large, white, sweeping dunes, at first glance "Lençóis Maranhenses" looks like an archetypal desert. In fact it isn't actually a desert. Lying just outside the Amazon Basin, the region is subject to a regular rain season during the beginning of the year. The rains cause a peculiar phenomenon: fresh water collects in the valleys between sand dunes, spotting the desert with blue and green lagoons that reach their fullest between July and September.

The lagoons have large numbers of fish that arrive when the lagoons are at their fullest after July, which causes them to be interconnected to rivers such as the Rio Negro. Also, one species of fish, the wolf fish or tiger fish stays dormant in the mud and moist areas after the majority of the water has evaporated, re-emerging during the next rainy season.

Life and business in the City, tangled and interconnected. And the City just watches, indifferent, going on being the City.

Numbers are significant in the Buddhist tradition. These three little statues were found in a garden at Lindisfarne, Tasmania. In Mahayana Buddhist philosophy “a bodhisattva is an ordinary person who takes up a course in his or her life that moves in the direction of Buddha. You and I, actually, anyone who directs their attention, their life, to practicing the way of life of a Buddha is a bodhisattva.” tricycle.org/magazine/what-bodhisattva/

In Buddhist philosophy (remember I am not talking about religion here, so this applies equally as well to non-Buddhists) all of life is interconnected. There is a “Buddha nature” (Buddha Dhatu) that pervades all existence. The English Christian theologian and poet John Donne (1572-1631) understood this as well when he wrote that, “No man is an island”. The way of interdependence is the way of compassion, of feeling for the needs of others, the way a true adult will feel, regardless of religion. So in a sense the desire to be a Bodhisattva is a way of growing up.

As Kosho Uchiyama defines it, “The life that flows through each of us and through everything around us is actually all connected. To say that, of course, means that who I really am cannot be separated from all the things that surround me. Or, to put it another way, all sentient beings have their existence and live within my life. So needless to say, that includes even the fate of all mankind—that, too, lies within me. Therefore, just how mankind might truly live out its life becomes what I aim at as my direction. This aiming or living while moving in a certain direction is what is meant by vow."

"In other words, it is the motivation for living that is different for a bodhisattva. Ordinary people live thinking only about their own personal, narrow circumstances connected with their desires. In contrast to that, a bodhisattva, though undeniably still an ordinary human being like everyone else, lives by vow. Because of that, the significance of his or her life is not the same. For us as bodhisattvas, all aspects of life, including the fate of humanity itself, live within us. It is with this in mind that we work to discover and manifest the most vital and alive posture that we can take in living out our life.” tricycle.org/magazine/what-bodhisattva/

Postojna Cave was carved by the Pivka River over millions of years. There are stalagmites, stalactites, and formations called curtains or draperies that look like folded curtains.

The cave system is 24.12 kilometers long and is made up of four caves interconnected through the same underground river.

The cave was first described in the 17th century by the pioneer of study of karst phenomena, Johann Weikhard von Valvasor. In 1818, when the cave was being prepared for a visit by Francis I, the first Emperor of the Austria-Hungary, a new area of the cave was discovered accidentally.

In 1872, cave rails were laid along with first cave train for tourists. At first, these were pushed along by the guides themselves, later at the beginning of the 20th century a gas locomotive was introduced.

During World War II, German occupying forces used the cave to store nearly 1,000 barrels of aircraft fuel, which were destroyed in April 1944 by Slovene Partisans. The fire burned for seven days, destroying a large section of the cave and blackening the entrance.

After 1945, the gas locomotive was replaced by an electric one. About 5.3 kilometres (3.3 mi) of the cave system are open to the public.

Madagascar

Tenrecs are endemic to Madagascar. Average length 5.5 inches

A fully terrestrial species of the forest floor, the lowland streaked tenrec is a specialist feeder on soft-bodied leaf litter invertebrates, including earthworms. The species is active both by day and night, and nest in fixed burrows which are commonly located near water. Latrine sites are situated near the nest entrance, which may be covered by leaves. Social groups may excavate complex interconnected burrow systems.

Social behaviour is complex, with groups consisting of over 20 related individuals, mostly the year's young accompanying four or fewer adults. Animals may forage alone or in small subgroups. When the quills are rubbed together they emit a high-pitched sound which is hypothesized to be a source of communication to other individuals.

Lowland streaked tenrecs do not go into true hibernation, but lower their body temperature and become inactive in response to adverse conditions; typically this coincides with the dry season, when temperature and food availability are at their lowest.

Plaça d'Europa (official name in Catalan, in Spanish: Plaza de Europa) is a square in the District VII of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat suburb of Barcelona, Catalonia in Spain. Located on the Granvia de l'Hospitalet avenue at the intersection with Carrer d'Amadeu Torner. It is part of L'Hospitalet's recent urban development, and one of its biggest squares at 33 ha, with a distinguishable skyline made up of high-rises, among the tallest structures in the city, some of which are designed by the renowned architect Toyo Ito. It is expected to become its economic centre, and will allow different parts of the city formerly severed by the Granvia to become interconnected.

Stavanger City Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in the city of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The bridge has one tower and it was one of the first larger cable-stayed bridge in Norway when it opened on 31 January 1978. The bridge crosses the Straumsteinsundet strait connecting the city centre of Stavanger to the small islands of Grasholmen and Sølyst. It is the main connection to the whole the borough of Hundvåg which is a series of islands that are all interconnected by small bridges.

Seliger is a lake of glacial origin in the Tver and Novgorod regions of Russia. Another name is Ostashkovskoye, after the name of the city of Ostashkov standing on the lake shore.

Lake Seliger begins to appear under the name Sereger in Russian chronicles in the 12th-13th centuries.

The name of Lake Seliger is most likely of Baltic-Finnish origin, but its specific etymology remains a matter of controversy.

The area of the lake is 260 km², including about 38 km² are islands (there are more than 160 of them on Seliger). The largest is Khachin.

The area of the entire basin is 2275 km². The greatest depth of Seliger is 24 meters, the average is 5.8 meters.

Seliger receives 110 tributaries, and only one river Selizharovka flows from it. The lake lies at an altitude of 205 meters above sea level and is of glacial origin. This explains its peculiar shape - it is not a lake in the usual sense, but rather a chain of lakes stretching from north to south for 100 km and interconnected by short narrow channels. the coastline has a length of 528 kilometers and is distinguished by indentation - capes overgrown with forests, deep picturesque bays protruding into the land, various in shape of the island.

There are 24 stretches on Seliger, the largest are Polnovsky, Ostashkovsky, Kravotynsky, Selizharovsky, Troitsky, Sosnitsky, Nizhnekotitsky and Berezovsky.

The water in Seliger is very clear, the transparency reaches 5 meters.

This is among my favorites from Nepal. We climbed straight up towards Throng Pedi to acclimate. Oddly there are rarely any sunsets with color this high, you have to be higher up, and this is dangerous due to the rapidly changing conditions. Literally one hour later this entire view was gray fog, nothing to be seen.

I followed this river for hours up it's winding pathway, taking in the beauty, tranquility offered, and observing the always changing yet unchanged stillness of the river. Siddhartha speaks of the lessons to be learned from the river. The placid tranquility contained within the oneness of the river with the world around us. The interconnected way of nature and life. River moving to ocean, ocean moving to mist, becoming snow, falling, melting, always the flowing, moving yet still.

*Tonlé Sap or commonly translated as "Great Lake" is a seasonally inundated freshwater lake, Tonlé Sap Lake, and an attached river, the 120 km (75 mi) long Tonlé Sap River, that connects the lake to the Mekong River. They form the central part of a complex hydrological system, in the 12,876 km2 (4,971 sq mi) Cambodian floodplain covered with a mosaic of natural and agricultural habitats that the Mekong replenishes with water and sediments annually.

The central plain formation is the result of millions of years of Mekong alluvial deposition and discharge. From a geological perspective, the Tonlé Sap Lake and Tonlé Sap River are a current freeze-frame representation of the slowly but continuously shifting lower Mekong basin.

The largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, it contains an exceptional large variety of interconnected eco-regions with a high degree of biodiversity and is therefore a biodiversity hotspot. It was designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1997.

y abismo y resplandor y azar y viento?

Before the dream (or the terror) could weave

Mythologies and cosmogonies,

Before the time could mint itself into days,

The sea, the always sea, it had been and it was.

Who is the sea? Who is that violent

Antique being that gnaws at the pillars

Of the earth and is one and many of the seas

And abyss and splendor and chance and wind?

Who looks on it sees it for the first time.

Always. With that wonder which all things

Elementary leave behind, the beauty

In evenings, the moon, flame of the bonfire.

Who is the sea, who am I? I will know it

In the days to come that follow the agony.

Jorge Francisco Isidoro Luis Borges Acevedo (24 August 1899 – 14 June 1986) was an Argentine short-story writer, essayist, poet and translator, and a key figure in Spanish-language and universal literature. His best-known books, Ficciones (Fictions) and El Aleph (The Aleph), published in the 1940s, are compilations of short stories interconnected by common themes, including dreams, labyrinths, philosophers, libraries, mirrors, fictional writers, and mythology.[3] Borges' works have contributed to philosophical literature and the fantasy genre, and have been considered by some critics to mark the beginning of the magic realist movement in 20th century Latin American literature.[4] His late poems converse with such cultural figures as Spinoza, Camões, and Virgil.

Happy Monochrome Monday, everyone!

L'any 1813 va quedar sense religiosos.

Church of Sant Agustí Nou del Raval

Church

A popular church in the Barcelona district of El Raval. It was built on the site of the former convent of Sant Agustí and is also known as the “cathedral of the poor” due to the great social roots that it has always had in the neighbourhood.

Called Sant Agustí Nou (new) to differentiate it from the church of the old convent of Sant Agustí, this temple in the Barcelona neighbourhood of El Raval was built between 1728 and 1760. It formed part of a larger architectural ensemble, however, during the disendowment of Mendizábal the convent and cloister were lost. It is commonly known as the “cathedral of the poor” and plays an important role in the social life of the neighbourhood of El Raval. It is the headquarters of two brotherhoods, La Macarena and Gran Poder.

It is formed by a single nave with interconnected side chapels. Two of the most popular chapels among the parishioners are the chapels dedicated to Saint Ponç and Saint Rita, in which it is common to see floral offerings.

VIA's #186 speeds east across the Lake Biscotasi causeway after dropping paddlers and anglers at the flagstop here minutes before. Biscotasi is interconnected with a seemingly endless chain of lakes, rivers, and streams including the nearby Spanish Lake, headwaters for the West Branch of the Spanish River. This makes Bisco a popular launching point for long-distance paddlers of the Spanish River which connects with the East Branch at Forks, eventually emptying into Georgian Bay. Directly off the CP right-of-way, Sinker Creek, Forks, Sheahan and Pogamasing are also popular Spanish River launching points, only accessible by this very train which often carries canoes and days of supplies for the trip into the remote "Great Beyond" here in beautiful northern Ontario.

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia.

Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s best-known national park, listed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage sites. It is a popular visiting destination all year round, and must-see for every visitor to Croatia.

Well known for its system of cascading lakes - whereby sixteen lovely lakes are interconnected by cascades and waterfalls. The park is simply beautiful. The main focus of park's beauty are sixteen lakes, divided into two parts - Gornja jezera (Upper lakes) and Donja Jezera (Lower Lakes), as well as numerous waterfalls and cascades.

Consisting of two interconnected ogival shells, the cathedral's octagonal dome was erected between 1418 and 1434 to a design which Filippo Brunelleschi entered in a competition in 1418 and completed in 1434.

A masterpiece capable of withstanding lightning, earthquakes and the passage of time, it continues to enchant all those who observe it from afar. The dome has a diameter of 45.5 metres.*

The world is facing significant challenges, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by everything happening around us. Global issues, from social injustices to climate change, political conflicts, and war have made many people feel that we need a major shift, both in how we approach problems and in our collective mindset.

Taking a moment to "think twice," is important. with everything going on, it calls for reflection on our actions, the choices we make in our daily lives, and how they impact others and the environment. Change often starts with small, intentional steps, and by being mindful of our actions, we can collectively create a positive shift.

This moment in time can also be a reminder that we’re all interconnected—individuals, communities, and nations—and our empathy, compassion, and commitment to justice and sustainability are vital for moving forward. It’s easy to get discouraged, but real change comes when we stand together and strive to make the world a better place for everyone.

The idea of a more automated or even robot-driven future has been explored in literature, films, and debates, and the concept of machines taking over is often framed as a solution when humans seem unable to resolve certain problems. Could "MAAIR robots" with Artificial Intelligence (AI) save the world?

A new park has now been completed in Bangkok - and it is spectacular: the Benjakitti Forest Park. It is huge - 41 hectares. The new park connects Benjakitti Park (and lake) with Lumpini Park via the so-called Green Mile. You can spend hours exploring Bangkok's interconnected park system, located right in the heart of this massive city.

"Water plays a central part in the park. Small bodies of water, called ponds, and islands create a wildlife-friendly environment."

You won't get bored exploring Benjakitti Forest Park, the walkways and skywalks are brilliantly designed, offering pleasant surprises along the way. A great place for nature and bird lovers!

In the distance - the Millenium Towers, a prestigious address in Bangkok, for movie stars and the likes.

One more photo from Yokoteyama. Two photos were merged to get this image.

Yokoteyama is the southernmost part of Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, which is a group of 19 ski geländes spread over undulating volcanic terrains. Ski geländes were originally developed independently but are now interconnected with each other by developing a network of lifts.

Hakuba Valley developed on the slopes of Kita Alps as you see in the photo is the major rival of Siga Kogen in ski tourism.

Development of Shiga Kogen was lead by the Seibu Group, while that of Hakuba was by the Tokyuu Group. The two were major tourism development corporations based in Tokyo in the late 20th century. It was the principal reason for Nagano Winter Olympic in 1998 having two venues for ski competitions (^_^;

Frustrated IOC demanded that the travel between the two venues should be within an hour, for which a new road was constructed across the mountainous northern Nagano prefecture. The road hugely benefitted isolated mountain villages, anyway.

Excuse me for adding a worldly description to such a pristine image.

Berlin

The Berlin Botanical Garden was built on the 43 hectares at its current location between 1900 and 1910 after the previous facility in Schöneberg had become too small. In a total of 14 interconnected greenhouses, you can hike through the flora of the tropics and subtropics.

Rising from the bottom of what was once an ancient lakebed, the Trona Pinnacles are one of the most unique geologic landscapes in the California Desert. Over 500 of these tufa spires, composed of calcium carbonate, are spread out over a 14 square mile area across the Searles Dry Lake basin. These formations range in size from small boulders to topping out at over 140 feet tall.

The Pinnacles were formed between 10,000 and 100,000 years ago when Searles Lake formed a link in a chain of interconnected lakes flowing from the Owens Valley to Death Valley. At one point during the Pleistocene, the area was under 640 feet of water. These days, the area has less than 4 inches of annual rainfall.

If you zoom in, you can see Wilbur in the middle right off in the distance.
