Fun with the California nebula in HaRGBL&OIII

moonrocksastro.com/index.php/astro-blog/

Ha was added to the Red channel then combined to produce an RGB image. Then Ha + OIII was used a luminance layer and OIII colour blue was layered though a masking process in Ps to create separation.

I wonder what the builders of this medieval gate from the 13th century would think if they saw it today. A tram running right through it, graffiti smeared on it and strange metal machines parked inside. Would they turn in their graves or enjoy the integration into modernity?

This is my first attempt at star trails using an ultra wide angle lens.

Each image was a two minute exposure at ISO 400 using a Rokinon 14mm lens mounted on my Canon EOS Ra. I left the lens aperture open at f/2.8 to reduce my exposure time because there was a lot of activity at this dark sky location. Using this method, I could selectively discard images in which a fellow astrophotographer or nature enthusiast inadvertently shone their flashlight or car lights into the trees.

Images were stacked and Lightness-blended using Photoshop. Total integration time was about 80 minutes.

As one of the most targeted minorities in the West, Muslims regularly face the threat of harassment, vandalism and negative portrayals in mainstream media. In turn, this discrimination negatively affects the many cultures and ethnicities associated with religion. Many people feel unsafe outside the boundaries of their own cultural communities, which only worsens the segregation in our Western society.

For photographer Marwan Bassiouni, focusing on our similarities is the gateway to embracing our differences. As an Egyptian-American-Swiss Muslim man, he has lived and practiced his religion all over the world, experiencing its perception in various cultures. For his New Dutch Views project, Bassiouni positions the Islamic experience as synonymous with the Dutch way of life – a rejection of distinction to make way for seamless integration.

The lens used was an old manual Zuiko 80mm f/4 macro on a sliding extension tube and micro 4/3's adapter, in spite of what the exif info states. Four Olympus high res shots were stacked in Photoshop. I would of liked to gotten one more but ran of focus adjustment.

Always found this area very challenging to process - so, being impatient I thought I would have a go with a partial data set, not the best logic!!

On previous attempts, I have found the background is quite difficult to 'make nice'. So here I used the Lum element of the RGB frames and applied back to a processed lum frame background. Results are quite pleasing - A four pane mosaic will follow of the extended area out to M89 and the two panes below as soon as I can find the time.

Desy is a talented photographer artist. Her photos, her images are beautiful. Lots of sensitivity, good taste and different rhythms and styles. You never get tired of them. Met on SL Paris 1900, I picked this moment to take a picture of Desy and integrate her in a drawing I had started a few days ago.

Architect George W. Kelham; completed in 1930. Bldg. gutted and completely refitted inside c. 1990. It also contains the university's Museum of Paleontology.

From the website:

"At the time of its completion, it was the largest building in the United States west of the Mississippi River and the largest academic building in the world. Valley Sciences is mammoth in its proportions. The footprint of the building is approximately 250×500 feet; its figure eight racetrack of hallways extend for over a mile. The building has five floors, for a total of 408,500 gross SF1 of space, of which 269,500 SF is assignable space. VLSB was designed in a 'Neo-Babylonian' style; the four projecting pavilions at the corners of the building contain art deco elements such as friezes of garlanded ox skulls, griffins, and Egyptian-Babylonian priests."

My first time imaging the bubble and lobster claw nebula. Sh2-157, also known as the Lobster Claw Nebula, is a bright emission nebula that lies in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies just south of the better-known Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635). Within this image of the Lobster Claw are a few other objects. NGC7510, NGC7538 and NGC7654. Hope you all enjoy and thanks for any constructive comments.

Taken at Astrocamp September 2014 in Brecon Beacon, Wales.

This was my most desired object that I wanted to capture ever since I started imaging. I finally learnt to polar align my equatorial mount and in the darkest skies of Brecon Beacon, Wales, I have finally fulfilled my dream in capturing this magnificent Celestial being that is 2.5 million light years away.

My next steps are to now learn the secrets of post processing to bring out the true colours and contrast of deep space imaging but for now, I am satisfied with my progress.

Tower of San Pedro

Built in the 13th century, with an original height of 25 meters, it is the oldest of the Teruel Mudejar towers.

Typologically it responds to the model of tower-door, since in its inferior plant a vaulted passage of pointed canyon is abre that allows the road circulation and its integration in the urbanistic network of the city.

It fits within the Mudejar towers of Christian structure formed by a single external tower of rectangular plant and divided into three overlapping rooms.
