October 09,2014 - Bandarban, Bangladesh - Portrait of a Marma community in Boro modok A indigenous hill village in Bandarban, Bangladesh. Bandarban is a district in South-Eastern Bangladesh, and a part of the Chittagong Division. It is one of the three districts that make up the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the others being Rangamati District and Khagrachhari District. Bandarban is regarded as one of the most attractive travel destinations in Bangladesh. Bandarban (meaning the dam of monkeys), or in Marma or Arakanese language as "Rwa-daw Mro" is also known as Arvumi or the Bohmong Circle (of the rest of the three hill districts Rangamati is the Chakma Circle, Raja Devasish Roy and Khagrachari is the Mong Circle, Raja Sachingprue Marma). Bandarban town is the hometown of the Bohmong Chief (currently King, or Raja, U Cho Prue Marma) who is the head of the Marma population. It also is the administrative headquarters of Bandarban district, which has turned into one of the most exotic tourist attractions in Bangladesh since the insurgency in Chittagong Hill Tracts has ceased more than a decade back. The three highest peak of Bangladesh - Tahjindong (1280 meters, also known as bijoy), Mowdok Mual (1052 meters), and Keokradong (883 metres) - are located in Bandarban district, as well as Raikhiang Lake, the highest lake in Bangladesh.

But to the workers it’s their daily doze. These Ship-craft-masters never get tired often handle everything in spite of getting any structural design keep building ships on their own effort with their basic genetic talent without any break. Frequently without goggles, risking serious injury or blindness, they all climb tall rope ladders to the ships’ highest points to retrieve items, risking death if they slip but yet happily they keep working in the pleasure of building the ship. But this time Bangladesh has been ranked as one of the “worst countries” in the world in terms of workers’ rights. The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) published the 2015 ITUC Global Rights Index, titled ‘the world's worst countries for workers’. It says countries with the rating of 5 are the worst countries in the world to work in. While the legislation may spell out certain rights, workers have effectively no access to these rights and are therefore exposed to autocratic regimes and unfair labour practices. The report notes that serious violations of trade union rights occur in EPZs throughout Asia, including Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Hoog in de muur van het hoekpand zit een streng kijkend en bebaard mannenhoofd, omgeven door een sierlijke krullijst. Eronder is een tekst aangebracht, die luidt: ‘ICK.KICK.NOCH.INT’ Hoofd en tekst stammen uit verschillende periodes en getuigen daarmee van de bijzondere geschiedenis van de straat.
De Oude Kijk in ’t Jatstraat heette vroeger ’t Rechte Jatt. Jatt betekende straat en was afgeleid van het Duitse ‘Gasse’. Aan het eind van deze straat zat geen poort in de stadswal (zoals in de Boteringe- en Ebbingestraat) maar er stond een pand. Het verhaal gaat dat hierin, als gevelsteen, het hoofd zat. In archiefstukken uit 1482 is al sprake van dit perceel, dat uitkijkt over de straat en bekend staat als ‘Kijck in ’t Jatt’.
Aan het begin van de zeventiende eeuw werden de stadswallen ontmanteld. Omdat de straat nu werd doorgetrokken naar de huidige Nieuwe Kijk in ’t Jatstraat, moest het huis verdwijnen. Het hoofd is vervolgens ingemetseld in dit nieuwe hoekpand. Het onderschrift wil zoveel zeggen als: ‘ik kijk lekker toch nog in de straat’.

April 26,2015 - Sylhet, Bangladesh –Portrait of a tea plucker in Sylhet. One lazy Sunday morning, holding a cup of vapor rising tea and day’s newspaper...do we need anything else to enjoy a perfect morning! Sylhet is a traditional tea growing area. People living here are the tea workers. They came from various parts of India in the British period and still are living under those circumstances. They are unaware of their right. And they are passing their lives as a slave of cultured people. The area of Sylhet has over 150 gardens including three of the largest tea gardens in the world both in area and production. Nearly 300,000 workers are employed on the tea estates of which over 75% are women. It seems they need an art to pluck two leaves one bud from every tea plant. The calculation of daily wage is 70tk(1$) for plucking at least 2 kg leaves per day for a worker. These tea workers are leading their life and completing their work through untold hardships. Being the bondservants of the civilized people, they are still sacrificing their generation after generation for working in such a condition and living in a dark world of opaqueness. Their hidden desire may be come to us through the bed tea with the morning newspaper and tell us that- “if we are not there may be you people won’t get a perfect morning everyday and that is why we work really hard, constantly, selflessly only to make your every morning as beautiful as life is”.

Muslims around the world prepare to celebrate one of the biggest Muslim religious festival of Eid ul-Adha by slaughtering goats, sheep and cattle in commemoration of the Prophet Abraham's readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah.
This weeks challenge was so exciting to me! I always look for inspiration the HA website and have so for years! Thankfully I made this card early int he week because I became very sick this week and didn't do much at all! I couldn't even find the energy to come and post my card! But I am finally feeling better!

The butterfly is a bookmark on a paperclip! I saw the article about making the bookmarks and loved it because it calls for felt on the background, how unique and I have so much felt because I once went felt crazy than never used it! Than I thought it would be fun to make it in a shape of such a wonderful stamp Heartwinged Butterfly! So I was just going to make the paperclip but than had the idea to make it into a pocketcard after reading the article (well my verison the paperclip goes through a hole that is hidden by the Patterned Paper....) Than I found a card that inspired me. I like the Happy Happy Day sentiment because I can use this for anyone. It would make a perfect gift for somone when you want to give them something more than a card! I love that you can't tell and when the card is opened they can see! Check out more pictures!

I versarmaked the words Happy on the blue using the word Happy from the Happy Graduation stamp from Cl336. And used the Happy Happy Day from an Archivers Set. And of course Heartwinged Butterfly!
