I just love these guys....I already have one tattooed on my arm....I may just get this one done in the fall.....

Does anyone know what these insects are?

Found in the San Gabriel Mountains. ID Anyone? I think this is some sort of blue but in it's tattered condition can't really tell what it is.

As its English names suggest, the Gatekeeper (also known as the Hedge Brown) is often encountered where clumps of flowers grow in gateways and along hedgerows and field edges. It is often seen together with the Meadow Brown and Ringlet, from which it is easily distinguished when basking or nectaring with open wings.

The colour and patterning of the wings are very variable and about a dozen aberrations have been named. Favourite nectar sources include Wild Marjoram, Common Fleabane, ragworts, and Bramble.

It is widespread in southern Britain and its range has extended northwards in recent years. Its range is far more localized in southern Ireland.

Thanks for viewing, favs and comments, much appreciated

Just a common tiny fly. The flowers on Choisya Ternata (Mexican orange blossom) are about 2.5cm dia. (1 inch).

Semble être un éristale tenace, mais à confirmer

Not sure of the id, seems to be a common drone fly (eristalis tenax)

Break on through, to the other side ...

I don't remember seeing this insect before. Is anyone familiar with them? This year, they're all over the yard. They love to gather in close groups.

I was walking in Heartwood Forest in Sandridge and spotted this beautiful dragonfly hovering over a pond. I have tried to photograph dragonflies in flight before with no luck as they tend to dart about - hence the name I guess! On this occasion I got lucky.
