Taken from my hotel window at the 6th floor. Well worth the bug hunt...lol. The hotel parking lot almost steals the show here.

Mont Saint Michel is a small rocky islet, roughly one kilometer from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River, near Avranches in Normandy, close to the border of Brittany. It is home to the unusual Benedictine Abbey Church (built between the 11th and 16th centuries) which occupies most of the one kilometer diameter clump of rocks jutting out of the ocean.
It is connected to the mainland via a thin natural land bridge, which before modernization was covered at high tide, and revealed at low tide. Thus, Mont Saint Michel gained a mystical quality, being an island half the time, and being attached to land the other : a tidal island.
In 708 the Archangel Michael appeared to Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, and commanded him to build a chapel on the top of Mont Tombe, a rocky island in the middle of an immense bay. Overawed by this apparition, Aubert obeyed and built a sanctuary to the glory of God and Archangel Michael.
Throughout its long history, Mont Saint Michel has had many roles. First a religious sanctuary with its monastic communities, it became a place of worship with its immense pilgrimages, a centre of intense academic activity with its production of manuscripts and illuminations, a symbol of national resistance with the glorious feats of arms of its knights and a formidable prison when the priests were ousted in the French Revolution of 1789, putting an end to the religious vocation of Mont Saint Michel.

Dire Straits - Private Investigations
www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9K27HvhDxA
It's a mystery to me, the game commences
For the usual fee, plus expenses
Confidential information, it's a diary
This is my investigation, it's not a public inquiry
I go checking out the reports, digging up the dirt
You get to meet all sorts in this line of work
Treachery and treason, there's always an excuse for it
And when I find the reason I still can't get used to it
And what have you got at the end of the day?
What have you got to take away?
A bottle of whiskey and a new set of lies
Blinds on the window and a pain behind the eyes
Scarred for life, no compensation
Private investigations

Venice Italy is pure magic. This is Venice and magic is what I tell everyone who asks me for travel advice.
Consider nearly 400 ancient bridges to cross, tall campaniles defining the city's skyline, stone walkways, 150 canals, 139 churches, a myriad of fascinating museums, St Mark's Square and Italian gelato that will satisfy your tastebuds as you meander your way through the timeless islands.
There are no cars in Venice. The roads are indeed the city's canals and if you want to be transported, your only choices are the iconic gondolas, private water taxis and public waterbus which is the vaporetto. If you're lucky, Venice will experience a mild Acqua Alta while you're in St. Mark's Square as there's nothing quite like it.
You might feel as if you're on a movie set as Venice doesn't seem real at first tho' the city is indeed a living breathing real place where people live and work. Be respectful as tensions toward tourists run a bit high these days.
Be prepared to think you're lost but also be prepared to throw away your map as a map will only frustrate you. Meander your way through the narrow alleys and simply be pleasantly surprised when you reach one of the public squares where you're sure to find shops and cafes.
Venice is splendid to discover. Take your time and take it all in. The city is pure sensory overload.

Part of my project ›Borderland, Borderless‹ - an inquiry along the former inner-German border.
Even more than 30 years after the reunification of Germany, there is this borderless borderland. All objects photographed form a topography of this particular society.
A book about this project will be published at the end of 2021, this picture however is not in the book.
I was visiting my Mom the other day, and I took her to the top floor of her building. I wanted to see if the rooftop patio door was open so we could check out the view of downtown St. Petersburg. To our delight, it was and provided us with a splendid view.
Thank you for all your inquiries about my Mom. She is doing well right now. It is a day at a time, and I am enjoying the good days! Thank you too for all your comments and support!

The pink building in front of the skyscrapers is the Vinoy Hotel. It was originally opened in 1925 as the Vinoy Park Hotel. Due to World War II it closed in 1942, but was brought back to life after a two year renovation in 1992 as the Renaissance Stouffer Vinoy Resort.

I never really put that much time into my photos.... but was taught a couple neat tricks by a friend and figured, needed a creative pursuit. Not very good and took me longer to do than I care to admit. But hey, gotta start somewhere?

A distant view of British Columbia's Muncho Lake. Even though it was the first of September the fall foliage was popping nicely.
Its name is derived from the Kaska language in which "muncho" translates as "big water." Not what the name may infer these days......;-) Thanks Snow for the inquiry.
Enjoy a wonderful Friday!

I have gotten a lot of invitations to join the "We Hate New Flickr" groups. I have gotten a lot of general inquiries about how to customize the settings. I don't know why....I just have.
So...here it is....
It's really not that different. I panicked at first when all the comments I had made had popped up but when I clicked on the button that says "more recent activity" I went to another page where there is a button that says "Activity Settings". All you have to do is click on that and you can customize what you do and what you don't see. It's actually far more functional that the old home page and the only real difference that I've seen is there are more contact photos and the list appears on the left instead of the right... Now perhaps I'm missing something horrid but I haven't found it yet!
It leaves me mystified at the unbending nature of people....change seems to freak everyone out! Fad causes come and go people...pick your causes by what is important and not by what is new. Now that being said...STOP BUYING BOTTLED WATER AND EVERYONE GO READ THESE ARTICLES which should scare the hell out of all of us! www.newint.org/ Plastic really IS forever.

Another story for you!!! LOL!!
On May 20, I made it to Saulsalito!! Walking around the Marina, I saw this and wondered for a split second if I was in India. LOL!!
I saw a guy coming out of his houseboat and as inquiry mind wants to know asked about the Taj Mahal. He said: "You're right, it's is a miniature copy of the Taj Mahal, the owner, a rich lady, wanted a replica of the real, and they say the inside design and decor is very true to the real. She comes once a year, with her servants, in a limo, spends a day here mostly inside and away from Inquiry Miiiiiiinds and leaves by night"!!!
A daaaaaaaaaay, I said!! WOW!!! and continued "you have a beautiful boathouse!!! He said, mame, this is a houseboat, the kind you live in, not a boathouse, there is a difference, if you don't mind me correcting youd"!!!
Woah!!! I hate to be put in place like that!!! So I made a mistake, so I said with a big smile and dumb look: " Oh! i forgot to mention I am dyslexic with compound words and come to think of it with regular ones too, such as: aks, nukelar..." He interrupted me and said "Are you Republican??"
I said: " Don't know about that but I am Armeniiian??!!!" He looked up from his house-boat -house, stared surprised, and we both cracked up laughing to tears and bended in two!!! He said a great one there little lady, do you mind me telling this story to my friends?? I said go ahead coz I'll be telling it to mine!!!!"
P.S. Forgot to mention that I told him his boathouse was really pretty ( it really was!!!). He wasn't impressed but said thank you!!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!

Visited Glasgow University and found this statue nicely lit. From Wikipedia: Adam Smith (16 June 1723 – 17 July 1790) was a Scottish moral philosopher, pioneer of political economy, and key Scottish Enlightenment figure. Smith is best known for two classic works: The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759), and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). The latter, usually abbreviated as The Wealth of Nations, is considered his magnum opus and the first modern work of economics. Smith is cited as the "father of modern economics" and is still among the most influential thinkers in the field of economics today.
Glynrhonwy Isaf slate quarries were aquired by the Air Ministery in 1939 and opened as a bomb storage depot during 1941. The stores were in use until 1956, however, this was not without a major construction mishap, shortly after opening
"In response to pressure from the treasury efforts were made to cheapen and accelerate the construction of Llanberis, but unfortunately the cost cutting had disastrous consequences only six months after the depot was opened.
On 25th January 1942, two-thirds of the structure collapsed within seconds under the weight of the overlaying backfill, completely engulfing a train of twenty seven wagons which was in the process of unloading. The collapse buried over 14,000 tons of bombs which at the time represented 14% of the total RAF stock. A court of inquiry concluded that faulty design was the principal cause of the failure; cracks were noticed in the structure as the building neared completion but these were attributed to minor defects rather than to a major and fatal miscalculation."
