The tiny inhabitants of the canal, the pond skaters. It's fascinating to watch these critters, they move very fast over the still and thick water and they can skate, jump and fly! (Best in Large for details)

An inhabitant of woodland, forest, parkland, and gardens with larger trees, especially oaks. Note stout black bill, thick black mustache, and black-and-white wing pattern with a patch of blue on the shoulder. White rump usually obvious in flight. Varies significantly across wide geographic range. Typically rather shy and difficult to see well, but sometimes feeds out on open ground; often seen flying across roads. Wide vocal repertoire: typical call a dry “scaaaaak,” as well as varied warbling and hooted notes (Courtesy ebirds).
Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated 👍
White Woodpeckers - it is a distinctive inhabitant of lightly wooded savannas and grasslands and forest edge of central South American. It occurs from extreme southeastern Peru east to northeastern Brazil and south to Argentina. The White Woodpecker has a white head and white underparts, set off with yellow patches on the hindneck and belly; there is a black stripe that extends from the rear of the eye to the mantle; and has black wings and tail. The White Woodpecker typically forages in groups of 5 to 8 individuals, sometimes in mixed species flocks with members of the woodpecker genus Colaptes. An arboreal species, the White Woodpecker feeds predominantly on fruits and seeds, but will also feed on insects. White Woodpeckers occasionally open bee nests to get at the honey and insects within. Wishing everyone a Peaceful Friday and weekend!
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

The inhabitants of Mani, the Maniates are descendants of the ancient Dorian population of the Peloponnese and related to the ancient Spartans. The terrain is mountainous and inaccessible and until recently many Mani villages could be accessed only by sea.
Maniates had a reputation as fierce and proudly independent warriors, who practiced piracy and fierce blood feuds. For the most part, the Maniates lived in fortified villages in "house-towers" where they defended their lands against the armies of the Franks and later the Ottomans.
Vendettas
An important aspect of Maniot culture were the vendettas which frequently plagued Mani. Usually, the decision to start a vendetta was made at a family gathering. The main aim of a vendetta was usually to wipe out the other family. The families involved locked themselves in their towers and whenever they got the chance murdered members of the opposing family. The other families in the village normally locked themselves in their towers in order not to get in the way of the fighting.
Some vendettas went on for months, sometimes years. In vendettas, the families could have a truce or treva, if one family needed to attend a religious ceremony or when it was time to harvest the crops. As soon as the treva ended, the killing could resume. Vendettas usually ended when one family was exterminated or when the defeated family left the town. Sometimes families came to terms, and vendettas stopped when the Turks invaded. The longest treva occurred when the Mavromichales declared war on the Turks in 1821. Vendettas continued after the liberation of Greece even though the Regency tried to demolish the towers.

A delicate-looking inhabitant of densely vegetated wetlands, where it scrambles over floating plants and between the stems of standing ones. Brown above and pale gray below, with a small black mask around the eye bound in by two bold white stripes. Prefers to run away instead of fly; flight is weak, with dangling legs. Call is a loud, raspy “kii-kah,” often repeated. (eBird)

Kanavinsky Bridge is the oldest permanent crossing over the Oka and Grebnevsky Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. It is located at 1.2 km of the river, next to the Strelka - the confluence of the Oka and Volga. It connects two parts of the city - Nagornaya and Zarechnaya. Initially it was called Pakhomovsky, then after a short time it became Oksky, and after the opening of the second Molitovsky bridge in 1965, it was renamed Kanavinsky - after the name of the district.
Until the beginning of the 19th century. the townspeople traveled to the Kanavino area and back by ferry and boats, and in winter they crossed over the ice. The urgent need for a crossing between the two banks of the Oka was ripe after the fair was moved to the other side - to the Zarechnaya part of Nizhny Novgorod, to Strelka. From mid-July to early September, the Gostiny Dvor was visited by more than 150 thousand people, while the city's population was no more than 18 thousand inhabitants. The decision to build a permanent crossing was made in 1920, but work began only 10 years later. The bridge was built in Nizhny Novgorod in 1.5 years from 1932 to 1933, but the official time frame is 5 years. The Kanavinsky Bridge has an arched structure: the load is distributed between six arches, over which transport and pedestrian traffic is carried out. The massive pillars are made of metal concrete, the road surface is made of asphalt concrete. The Kanavinsky Bridge is 795.5 m long and 23.6 m wide.
The arch bridge survived two German bombings and escaped serious damage thanks to the use of a smoke screen. In the post-war years, the coating and structures were repaired several times, but without blocking traffic.
Pico Island’s population (just 15k inhabitants) live scattered along the coastline. In the interior of the island you can’t find a soul. Just happy cows grazing and enjoying an easy life from abundant pasture.
That’s a pity (or a blessing…) because you can find there beautiful spots with an endless number of volcanoes, craters, lakes (crater lakes) and views to the sea and nearby islands. And green, a lot of green!
One of the lakes I’ve found there is this “pearl”. An awesome view! The couple of white spots you see in the image aren’t hot pixels. No, they are just cows calmly grazing and enjoying the view…!

A perky, inquisitive inhabitant of woodlands, scrub, parks, and gardens. Note the mohawklike crest (except on young males), the rather short bill, and dark gray (adult males) to dingy (immatures and females) underparts. The female Puerto Rican Emerald lacks a crest, is often whiter below, and has a blackish face. The female Blue-headed Hummingbird also lacks a crest plus it has a longer bill and a longer tail that is blue. Calls include a high thin “pit” or “tsit” as well as various high-pitched twitterings. (eBird)

This photo does not do this pretty hummingbird justice, but it was the only I got. I would see them buzzing around the flowers whenever my camera was elsewhere. People do not feed hummingbirds in Barbados because there is so much natural food around. This means its harder to predict where they will be for a photo session. Oh well, you take what you can get :-)

This amazingly beautiful lagoon is such an example. You won’t be able to see any references to it on guides or mentions to its existence on websites. Those are focused almost exclusively on the coastline and its (admittedly) beautiful landscapes/seascapes. If they only knew better…
From the vantage point where this shot was taken you have a magnificent view of the lagoon and its beautiful surroundings but, being so high (at clouds level!), you can see as well in the distance the blue ocean and the nearby S. Jorge Island (another of the nine Azorean islands).

Şirince (pronounced [ʃiˈɾindʒe]) is a village of 600 inhabitants in İzmir Province, Turkey, located about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) east of the town Selçuk and about 8 kilometres from Ephesus. The area around the village has history dating back to Hellenistic period (323-31 BC). Pottery finds made around the village between 2001 and 2002 by Ersoy and Gurler indicate the presence of seven villages and nine farmsteads in the area dating back to ancient and medieval times. On the road up you will see the remains of several Roman aqueducts as the village was an important water source for ancient Ephesus. Today the village prospers through agriculture (olive oil, peaches, wine) and tourism. Almost all of the houses dating back to 19th century have been renovated and most converted into boutique hotels.

Tromsø is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tromsø.
Tromsø lies in Northern Norway. The 2,521-square-kilometre (973 sq mi) municipality is the 18th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Tromsø is the 9th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 71,590 (2014). The municipality's population density is 30.6 inhabitants per square kilometre (79/sq mi) and its population has increased by 15.9% over the last decade.[6][7] It is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle anywhere in the world (following Murmansk and Norilsk). Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometres (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. In 2017, the city of Tromsø had a population of about 65,000 people spread out over Tromsøya and parts of Kvaløya and the mainland. Tromsøya is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge.
The municipality is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. Tromsø is even milder than places much farther south of it elsewhere in the world, such as on the Hudson Bay and in Far East Russia, with the warm-water current allowing for both relatively mild winters and tree growth in spite of its very high latitude.
The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in Northern Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789. The city is a cultural centre for its region, with several festivals taking place in the summer. Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge of the electronica duo Röyksopp and Lene Marlin grew up and started their careers in Tromsø. Noted electronic musician Geir Jenssen also hails from Tromsø.
Marstrand is a seaside locality on the Swedish west-coast. It had 1,319 inhabitants in 2010 and has held city privileges since 1200. The most striking feature about Marstrand is the 17th-century fortress Carlsten, named after King Carl X Gustav of Sweden. The town got its name from its location on the island Marstrandsön.
During the last quarter of the 18th century Marstrand had the free port status, granted by the King Gustav III. Marstrand is a popular sailing resort in summer time with many sailing competitions.
Streefkerk is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies on the southside of the river Lek, about 20 kilometres east of Rotterdam.
In 2004, the town of Streefkerk had 2600 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.37 km², and contained 628 residences. The statistical area "Streefkerk", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2,600.
Streefkerk was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Liesveld. The latter has been part of Molenwaard since 2013.

Saasveld is a small village in Twente with less than 1,700 inhabitants. There is a church in the middle, around it some houses and an extensive outdoor area with farms. Mainly livestock and pig farming.
The cemetery contains 19th-century priestly graves. The church stands on the former castle grounds, which is accessed via a late 19th-century iron drawbridge over the fore. outside canal.
I'm not saying that I found them that way, but purely for the sake of comparison, we put the little one on mom. The loggerhead turtle is a frequent inhabitant of rugged areas, there are a lot of them in Herzegovina, although they are not so easy to see.

Snowy day. I was enjoying the white silence of the forest, the slight squeaking of my steps in the powder snow. A slight movement at the edge of my field of vision made my head spin. They were watching me ....
Luckily I had my camera slung over my shoulder. Just enough time to aim and shoot .... before they disappeared.

The Nuthatch is a charismatic inhabitant of woodland and an agile visitor to bird tables.
A handsome bird with a similar shape and structure to a woodpecker. The Nuthatch has a slate grey back, black eye stripe, white cheeks and orange breast; it is possible to distinguish male birds by their contrasting dark rufous flanks. Birds can be seen all year round in the UK, particularly in old deciduous woodland, although the species is absent from Northern Ireland and central to northern Scotland. The species possesses a range of loud whistling calls.
Nuthatches nest in tree holes or nest boxes, reinforcing the nest entrance with dried mud. Up to eight eggs are laid. The Nuthatch UK population trend shows a significant increase since the 1970s, which may be caused by a fall in the rate of nest failure and an increase in brood size and the number of chicks successfully reared per breeding attempt.
Gorzów Wielkopolski is city located on Warta River and has about 125000 inhabitants. The main part of city with the historical part is located on the right, high bank of river. The Nadwarciański Boulevard is located along the entire city center, separated from the city by a historic railway flyover. The Old Town Bridge, which is a passing from the right bank to the left bank, divides the boulevard into the east and west.
The building is a remnant of the city's urban layout from before World War II. In the years 2009-2011 the boulevard was rebuilt for recreational purposes, a lower boulevard terrace was built, where ships can moor.

Annecy is the capital of Haute-Savoie, which has about 50,000 inhabitants and is a city located on Lake Annecy, surrounded by alpine peaks. The city is a real pearl with beautiful buildings - often called French or Alpine Venice.
The Thiou River creates islands and canals that cross the Old Town making it similar to Venice. On the hill above the lake there is a magnificent castle-fortress. It was built in the 12th century, after the fires it was rebuilt in an unchanged form but with limited wood. Until 1947, there were military barracks here, and since 1953 it has been owned by the City.

Inhabitants of this village showed a lot of creativity in dealing with the limitations of their natural geography. The small harbor can only accommodate a few boats at a time, so the others are lined up in the water in trouble or guarded on shore firm at the pier.
The houses climb the extremely steep slopes heaped one over the other.

With its 130 inhabitants and the direct location on the water, Lehde is one of the most original and beautiful villages in the Spreewald. The great poet and author Theodor Fontane already knew how to report on the beauty of Lehde: "It is the pocket-sized lagoon city, a Venice as it may have been 1,500 years ago, when the first fisherman families sought shelter on its swamplands."
Deutsch:
Lecce is a compact city of less than 100,000 inhabitants large enough to have all the amenities but small enough to not attract too much attention, it is often called the “Florence of the South” but Lecce has a much longer history dating back to the Trojan wars so maybe Florence is in reality the “Lecce of the North”.
When the Romans were conquering the south of Italy in the 3rd century BC the Emperor Hadrian was taken with the charms of Licea so spent a lot of time fortifying and linking it to the Appian Way favoring it as well with a 25,000 seat amphitheater, this sealed its status as a favored city south, if you search the back of Lecce remnants of the theatre still can be seen today.
The best thing to do in Lecce is to get lost wandering the maze of back streets and alleyways through streaming sunlight light pocketed with deep shadows but be prepared for a neck ache your head needs to be on swivels to take in all the ornate details of every nook and cranny, picture here is one of the many scenes you will find in your explorations.
I took this on Sept 25, 2016 with my D750 and Nikon 24-85 f3.5-4.5 Lens at 24mm 1/200s f/16 ISO 720 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

A common inhabitant in many diverse settings these hunters can be found in suburban communities, brushy fields, forested areas, open bushlands and even wetlands. Since their preferred menu is rodents and rabbits they don't have to be terribly selective as to what area they call home. Aside from their main menu they will also dine on fruit, eggs, amphibians and birds if available with a particular fondness for chickens.
This mature fox is hunting the tall grass not far from some farm buildings which they have learned can supply them with mice and other rodents.
Tremezzo, in my opinion, although it is a small commune with little more than 1300 inhabitants, has a more urban aspect, perhaps by the greater circulation of cars in the edge along the lake.
Very frequented by tourists, it has wonderful hotels, but its main attraction is Vila Carlota, a beautiful palace transformed into a museum, with a grandiose garden, in fact a small Botanical Garden given to the incredible variety of flowers, including several from a climate tropical, like orchids, bromeliads, cacti, succulents. A lovely surprise indeed.
For now some pictures of Tremezzo only;)
I have to confess you. Before I flew to Paris, I had prejudices, they heard so much that French us Germans do not like and they are very rude, especially in Paris.
And now come on, I have to break a lance for the Paris population. I can not confirm all that when I was there with my niece last year, we were always helped and the people were very nice and polite to us.
And yes, I did not think that would happen, but I love this city and its inhabitants.
I just wanted to get rid of that, only by own experiences one should form his opinion and not say by hear.

Last year the swans had their first offspring in the Admonter Stiftsteich. In autumn one after the other flew away - to the great lamentation of the swans left behind and the Admont inhabitants. All the greater is our joy that the swans are here again this year and have young.
Fira is the capital city of the Greek Aegean island of Santorini.
In ancient times, the people of Santorini traded with many nations - their products have been found as far as Libya! But all this came to an end in about 1600 BC. Although the inhabitants were unaware of it, their island was in fact a huge volcano, and one day it literally blew up, creating a cluster of smaller and the centre of the island vanished, and some say it was the source of the legend of Atlantis as recorded by Plato.
Today, white-washed houses are built on the edge of 400 metre high cliffs, or caldera.

My aunt loves orchids and the two here, stand in their living room.
The butterfly comes from the Botanical Garden in Munich.
Because both are inhabitants of the jungle, I thought that it fits.
Here you can see our outlook on our city ...
just over 100,000 inhabitants with a lot of forest and industry.
The Acorn Woodpecker is a common, conspicuous inhabitant of foothill and montane woodlands in North America, from southwestern Washington, Oregon, California, southwestern United States, and western Mexico, extending south through the highlands of Central America to the northern Andes of Colombia. Throughout its range, this species is closely associated with oaks (genus Quercus) and is most commonly found in pine–oak woodlands. It is probably best known for its highly social habits and unique method of storing acorns in specialized trees known as storage trees or granaries, although group living and acorn storage are not characteristic of all populations. This is generally a sedentary species, but at least one population migrates annually and irregular migrations occur elsewhere when local acorn crops fail. doi.org/10.2173/bow.acowoo.01
