Their garden hybrids have been popular among gardeners, beginning with Clematis jackmanii, a garden standby since 1862; more hybrid cultivars are being produced constantly. The two piers in Whitby have been in existence since before the 1500's. By 1540, the two oak piers (east and west) were replaced partially, with stonework (in the reign of King Charles 1), with further work around the 1600�s. Both piers were rebuilt in 1735, each measuring approximately 183m, but by 1814 the west pier was further extended to reach a length of 309m. In 1905, both the piers had new pier ends built on, each of a length of 152m.

Statue of a Shepherd
This statue, which was created by local sculptor Andy Cheese was placed in Ram's Walk Shopping Arcade in Petersfield, Hampshire when it was opened in 1993.
It caused some controversy when local farmers pointed out that not only is the breed of sheep wrong for the area, but the breed of sheep dog is also the wrong type for the area! Perhaps that's why it's difficult to find an image of this statue linked to the name of the sculpture :-)

It is said that "bread is the life of the poor, and it is murder to deprive them of it" (Ecclesiasticus 34). Just as important as bread these days is independent and critical information. States, political parties, so-called leaders, companies and others who manipulate information are depriving all those who are not in power from having access to a full life. It is time to reinterpret and update our tradition vis-a-vis the media conglomerates.

"In the early 1900s, Kansas City’s Fire and Water Commission proposed building a reservoir to provide water to the growing number of industrial industries in the area.
Construction began in 1919 and the Northeast Reservoir was completed in 1920.
“Overall it was supposed to hold about 16 million gallons (of water),” said Devin Wetzel, Superintendent of Park and Natural Resources with Kansas City Parks and Recreation.
Soon after it was in use, cracks developed under the enormous amount of water pressure. Other water sources and treatment centers were developed, and the reservoir was drained and left empty."
