Sachin Tendulkar became the first man to score a double century in One Day Internationals. The great man’s unbeaten 200 off 147 balls helped India defeat South Africa by 153 runs in the second ODI at Gwalior on Wednesday, and gave the host an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Tendulkar’s innings surpassed the previous record for the highest score in ODIs — 194, which was set by Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar in 1997 and equalled by Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry in 2009. Later, Tendulkar said he was dedicating this record to the people of India.

The sanction was imposed by match referee Chris Broad when it was determined that India fell two overs short of the target, accounting for time allowances.
In response to India’s poor over-rate against South Africa in the opening Test on Friday in Centurion, the country was docked two ICC World Test Championship points and fined 10% of their match fee.
India was declared to be two overs short of the target when time allowances were taken into account, and match referee Chris Broad delivered the punishment.
Article 16.11.2 of the ICC WTC playing regulations also penalizes a side one point for each short over. As a result, India’s total points have been reduced by two championship points.
There was no need for a formal hearing because India skipper Rohit Sharma accepted the suggested punishment after entering a guilty plea.
The accusation was made by fourth umpire Stephen Harris, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Langton Rusere.

He also added, “That’s something that we’ve had a discussion about multiple times when I was the coach. And more often than not, we decided to go with the best two bowlers at the start of the session. If you cast your mind back, India would feel they had missed a massive trick in the first half hour of play. Two bowlers they started with, that tactically was a big mistake.”
