Eigentlich ein Klassiker aber wenn man den Turm sieht ist es schon sehr beeindruckend wie schief dieser steht. Der Turm begann sich schon zu neigen als der Bau in der 3. Etage war. Darauf hin ruhte der Bau für über 100 Jahre. Erst dann kamen die neuen Baumeister darauf den Turm nicht grade weiter zu bauen sondern in die Bananen Form um der Neigung entgegen zu wirken. Das Ganze Gelände ist sehr sehenswert Basilika, Kathedrale und Turm. Spannend finde ich die vielen Symbole der Kreuzritter die sich hier überall finden.

 

Actually a classic but when you see the tower it is already very impressive how crooked it stands. The tower began to tilt as the building was on the 3rd floor. The building was then suspended for more than 100 years. Only then did the new builders not continue to build the tower, but into the banana form to counteract the inclination. The whole area is very worth seeing basilica, cathedral and tower. I find the many symbols of the Crusaders that can be found everywhere exciting.

One thing I really miss in winter is birdsong, so imagine our delight when we saw our crabapple tree full of robins recently. They shouldn't be in Maine now and I don't know if they are late flying south, or if they have decided to winter over. The robins were eating all the berries they could find and they swooped and cavorted through the branches of the tree all morning long. Then, as if by signal, unheard by me, they suddenly departed. One thing I really miss in winter is birdsong, so imagine our delight when we saw our crabapple tree full of robins recently. They shouldn't be in Maine now and I don't know if they are late flying south, or if they have decided to winter over. The robins were eating all the berries they could find and they swooped and cavorted through the branches of the tree all morning long. Then, as if by signal, unheard by me, they suddenly departed. Easter Island, is Chilean territory, known locally in Spanish as Isla de Pascua. It's one of the remotest inhabited islands in the world and now has around 6000 residents, 60 percent are descendants of the aboriginal Rapa Nui. At the end of the 19th Century the population was just a little over 100, down from an estimated 15000 a few centuries earlier.

The nearest inhabited island is over 1200 miles away, Pitcairn, where the mutineers from HMS Bounty settled, it has only 50 residents, most of whom are descended from Fletcher Christian and his men. Anyway enough about Pitcairn, I would love to have went there, but alas we had to get back to Peru, where Machu Picchu had only just reopened to the public after extensive flooding and landslides. Anyway enough about Peru.

If you have the time or the inclination, Easter Island is a must see if you are in New Zealand or Chile, the only places from which direct flights were available at time of my limited research. Given the cost of the average package holiday, money is not a real barrier. However, the place is not exactly teaming with hotels and restaurants, but locals await every flight at arrivals, advertising their properties and live-in facilities,and this is how most travellers choose where to stay. We shared a place by the sea overlooking the South Pacific, enough said, really. Never seen anything quite like it to be honest. A real photographer would feast on a thousand and one photo opportunities here. The volcanic crater, in the south west,and the black volcanic rock coastline, are at least as spectacular, in terms of nature, as many of the 900 statues are, in terms of culture. Unfortunately, I travelled with a camera that cost £9.99 from Boots the Chemist, which was a big mistake, But the location is such that even I managed to get some good shots.

My inclination is to choose this one for the Macro Monday posting for the theme of “my closest” for 1/17. Yep, *sprinkles* on chocolate icing!! Very very very close-in because I used a clip-on lens for my phone’s camera. The tick marks behind the sprinkles are *millimeters*, so the one on the far right is 2mm….

My Dads been sick RL, so it's been sort of a crazy few months. I've mentioned that I really haven't had the time (or the inclination) to get a lot done on SL~ Unfortunately that applies to flickr as well. Thankfully though, with the help of my lovely friends Iska (Who designed Florence) and Tippah (Who decorated all the houses), we've managed to put together a "Spring" version of Florence At Low Tide. It's been fun, with a few little changes (nothing drastic)~I'll open the SIM at some point this week, and I hope you'll all visit if you have a chance!. I've hated having it closed for so long, and will be glad to see some new pictures taken (and winter over!)

 

Oresund Bridge consists of three parts and is totally 7845 m long. 5.35 km of the bridge is located on the Swedish side. [3] From the east passing first over a 3739 m long tillfartsbro starting from Lernacken just south of Malmo. The bridge continues with a 1092 m long cable-stayed bridge whose pylons is 203.5 meters high. The high bridge has a vertical clearance of 57 meters above Flintrännan. It turns into a western tillfartsbro at 3014 m. From the 4055 meter long artificial island Pepparholm, just south of Saltholm, connecting tunnel.

 

The bridge consists of two levels where the railway goes under the highway. East of the bridge goes motorway halves apart and railroad emerge between lanes. The railway runs between the lanes past the toll station and a few kilometers to the east. The bridge has been around 1.56% slope, [4] which is clearly more than that pursued for freight trains (especially as this and related courses have congestion, so they want fewer, heavier freight trains). The Danish EU locomotives are built specifically to be able to reap the full weight of freight trains across the Sound, and even during the Great Belt. They can also launch a stationary train in such an inclination. But even standardlok (like Traxx) can make full weight of freight trains across the bridge, but on condition that they take charge and go into the slopes with good speed.

 

Unlike, for example, the Golden Gate Bridge there is no possibility to pass the connection by bike or on foot. [5]

As eager as I am to share some shots/videos from this spring, I thought I'd better finish up the last two stories from last spring first!

 

The video is less than 3 minutes long and showcases their energized activity from preening, scratching, wing exercises positional changes in the nest, and don't miss the funny 12 second feeding at the end. With little nest edge available to perch and feed these full grown chicks, she decides to partly hover and stand on a chick's back to accomplish the task.

 

This was the only time the female fed the chicks in my presence. After buzzing the back of my head to determine threat levels, where I stayed stock still, she went ahead with her 12 second feeding. While I was trying to determine if she was still somewhere behind me, I was vaguely aware of a flickering of activity on the camera screen in front of me. It wasn't till I uploaded it, that I realized she had risked a feeding with me there... and so a tentative trust grows ever so briefly before they left.

Puerto Villamil (on the southeastern corner of Isla Isabela) embodies the archetypal end of the road – in a good way, the kind that lures weary city folks to pick up and move halfway around the world. Backed by a lagoon where flamingos and marine iguanas live, and situated on a beautiful white-sand beach, it’s a sleepy village of sandy roads and small homes. However, overdevelopment threatens, and there’s been something of a mini building boom over the past several years.

 

Undoubtedly, when General José Villamil moved here in 1832 with hopes of organizing a model community made up mostly of whalers, he found the location as beguiling as do today’s visitors. Unfortunately, the draftees’ peaceful inclinations proved to be more utopian than real, and they ended up destroying the colony. Villamil later introduced cows, horses and donkeys, which quickly reproduced, threatening the island’s delicate ecosystem.
