Macro mondays : I made this

---------------------------------------

When I can and have some time I like to make small crafts, with paper or molding with clay or mud, small glasses, small clay jugs like this one, but very simple, although it is difficult for me I keep trying.

This week's theme for macro mondays is something handmade by me. This is a tiny embroidery of a Townsend's Warbler from a photo I took. The bird in its entirety measures 2 1/2 " by 2 1/2". Each thread is a single sewing thread. The original photo I took is in the comments.

Detail of a cope and stick joint, used when I remodeled the kitchen and bath cabinets. I started with rough lumber and this is the finish product.

The vast majority of the machined parts I made as a machinist were parts of an assembly. Only the technician putting the thing together and possibly someone later doing a repair would ever see any of the work I did. I almost never knew what a widget was or what purpose it served. I would get a drawing, a quantity of material and instructions about which machine to use and how soon I needed to have the job finished. The drawing had all the relevant information necessary to create parts that worked so I didn't need to know any further details. This brass part was no exception. I have no idea what function it was meant to do. Looking at the thing I seem to remember it wasn't an easy part due to the length of the smallest diameter and the soft nature of brass. It's 64.6 mm long and the knurled diameter is 21.7mm diameter. I'm sure it was made to inch dimensions but since I retired I've switched my brain to metric because I got sick of converting. HMM and thanks for any and all views, faves and comments.

Happy Macro Monday!

Thanks for all your faves and comments everyone!

I really appreciate them!

My dog is now 14 years old.

She doesn't like the heat, so I never thought that the day would come when she would feel cold on a winter morning. She was often shivering in the morning this winter.

So I knitted a sweater to keep her warm.

She like it!

I intentionally left her hair on the sweater in the photo.

Something musical that I made. It does not really translate to macro in a way. Or maybe it does.

Happy Macro Mondays

Ein gravierter Baum auf einem Bocksbeutel, innen eine kleine Lichterkette.

An engraved tree on a Bocksbeutel, with a small string of lights inside.

She may be sleeping with eyes beyond all evils,

Beyond the things, illusions, beyond the reality,

And with her there sleeps, unprecedented her beauty;

She may be living and will come after this dream,

She may be sleeping with eyes beyond all evils

(the last stanza of this wonderful poem)

Vladislav Petković Dis (1880–1917), a famous Serbian poet

This was my student sculptural work on the theme of characters from Poetry.

I chose the poem I like the most "She may be sleeping"

After two days of working on the sculpture, the professor said it was excellent, but it was too small, so I had to work again. The second, larger one is still in the school gallery. It's lucky that I kept this sculpture, but it had already dried up too much to finish it.

HMM!

I've shown this antique gun before, but never in action, because that's not something you shoot in a hurry. It's a muzzle loader and really heavy, it needs a support to hold it kinda horizontally.

It's filed down to octagonal shape from an old nail with a 1.5mm bore in the front. The stock is from beechwood, coloured with black tea, the cock of the flintlock is part of a cast letter (see 1st comment for details)

The width of the image is within pixel accuracy 76mm, so still 0.2mm short of 3"

MACRO MONDAYS "I made this" theme

Designed and 3D printed this plastic replica of a small adjustable wrench, consisting of 4 components.

erst mal klein anfangen ;-)

dieser Zapfhahn hat eine Gesamtgröße von 4x3 cm

ich denke, da er durch die Perspektive der Aufnahme kürzer ist, wird dieses Makro noch regelkonform für "Macro Mondays" sein?

This is a portion of a hand cranked coffee mill. I made the box from local (PA) red oak and stained it walnut. I bought the cast iron mechanism, still attached to a decomposing chunk of the original grinder at a junk store . I made the new box at a woodworking night class, tailored for adults, at the county high school. I will be 50 years this fall since I made the box and would guess the mechanism to be between 120 to 160 years old.

A box joint is a woodworking joint made by cutting a set of complementary, interlocking profiles in two pieces of wood, which are then joined (usually) at right angles, usually glued. The glued box joint has a high glued surface area resulting in a strong bond, on a similar principle to a finger joint. Box joints are used for corners of boxes or box-like constructions, hence the name.

Macro Mondays theme: I Made This

The bird is my own creation: mixing wire, needle felting and real feathers. It was crafted to complete a Funco Pop customisation of me and my husband, known in my doll photography world as Mr Bigg. Link to the complete work in the comments below.

The bird is a symbol of my longtime persona: abirdonthehead, which first appeared in a self portrait in the style of Klee I created in Microsoft Paint many years ago. It is also shown below in the comments.

I am working on images for a 2027 calendar with Workman Publishing and the squirrels were quite cooperative the day I shot this scene. Some days I take hundred of photos. This was no exception.
