Lt. Shannon Scaff, an instructor at the Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Academy in Charleston, S.C., takes the first lap of a long distance swim he dedicated to a fallen Coast Guard aircrew, Feb. 27, 2015. Scaff undertook the challenge of swimming in a local Charleston pool for 24 hours to bring awareness and support to the families of fallen military members. Last week I ordered a Macbook Pro from Apple... and in doing so was able to partake of the free (after rebate) iPod Nano deal. And, naturally, because I was getting an iPod... well, I had to have my name and domain name engraved on it. Yes, I am that geeky. :) (The Macbook Pro hasn't arrived yet.)

For those who think it's impossible to lick your elbow.
I was bored and messing around, nothing serious here.

This impossible map of London is from memories of the Fairy Queen Bess of Holebourne from her long, long life of 300 years.
Many landmarks of modern London are not present because the real city of London is only from the Tower of London to the far side of Saint Paul's Cathedral as shown in the map.
All the rest of the great landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Piccadilly Circus and the whole of the West End are in the city of Westminster which surrounds the tiny ancient capital.
chose to base the map on Van Visscher's panoramic map of London from a little after the time of Queen Elizabeth I, when the fairy queen Bess was a young woman (1616).
It shows the old London Bridge that always seemed to be falling down, not only in the nursery rhyme but also in real life too.
The large church in the foreground is St Mary Ollave, which is now Southward Cathedral.
The octagonal building next to it is William Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
A lot of the old city was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
Bess’ map shows the new Saint Paul’s Cathedral built by Christopher Wren after the fire, as well as The Monument (to the Great Fire of London - built so the tip of its shadow falls on the start of the fire at Pudding Lane) which still stands today by modern London Bridge.
Tower 42, the Gherkin at St Mary Axe and the Lloyds building represent the modern city, while next to the Tower of London is Tower Bridge opened in 1894.
(As always thanks to Wikipedia for all the info - what would I do without you?)
"Restaurant: Impossible" host Robert Irvine poses with Lisa Kendall prior to the big reveal of Aponte's Pizzeria in Mason. Kendall's North Bend restaurant, Rohrer's Tavern, was featured on the Food Network show in fall 2012. The show returned to Cincinnati in June 2013 to film an episode at Aponte's Pizzeria. In today's society, women and men are both held to an impossible standard of beauty. There is an expectation for women to have the perfect body, the perfect curves in "all the right places," a face with no imperfections, perfectly healthy, long, flowing hair, and a smile that could stop traffic. For men, it is perfectly sculpted abs, strong facial features, tall, muscular build, "manly". Then whenever someone embraces their own version beauty, they are judged for it.

My latest custom Barbie doll, modeled after The Impossibles rock 'n roller outfits. Why not, right? I've done Barbie as Penelope Pitstop, Barbie and Ken as the Josie & the Pussycats characters, and Barbie as Merilee and Steffy from "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kids."
I'd do the boys themselves, but I just can NOT find decent lookin' Ken dolls.
I added this image as it shows their huge, expressive eyes. When I visited Maine last month I had little hope of seeing one, knowing it was breeding season and their nesting island was closed. Puffins spend most of their time far out at sea (they are considered part of the diet of many countries, like Iceland) and only come to shore to nest. As their breeding season ends, the colorful, outer layer of their beak falls off, leaving their bills smaller and less colorful.
There were no scheduled cruises to search for them at sea but I lucked out and found one of the boats that goes back and forth to Monhegan Island that would take us near Eastern Egg Island if I could find 10 more people. The stars aligned as a Sierra Club group from CA agreed to change their plans and get right on the boat! We cruised well back from the islands shoreline, but the Atlantic Puffins were in pairs, flying and floating in the sea. Not the easiest of shots as the boat rises up and down while the birds bob up and down themselves! Between trying to stand without falling, and hold on to the camera, on the rocking deck, and keep the subject somewhere in the frame....it was a fun challenge!

"Impossibility" made me think of those impossible poems, like "Scarborough Fair" and John Donne's "Go and catch a falling star", and then I took "falling star" and went sideways in the colour version.
The only time you'll see the moon in the west at sunset is when it is a waxing crescent, or first-quarter moon. This waning gibbous moon is actually out of view to the left (East), but appears to be out of place courtesy of an obliging window that was transparent where it needed to be and reflective just where Luna and I needed it to be..
I finally tried "The Impossible Whopper" (which IS apparently possible), with a patty containing zero percent meat. To my tastes, it was *very* similar to the regular Whopper, though I haven't had a meat Whopper in a few months. Like the Whopper, it is large and has a lot of calories -- too much for one meal, if you ask me. I think it was just a little drier, but otherwise unremarkable.
Knowing that meat consumption (and related land-clearing, methane emissions, etc.) is a huge part of global warming, I'm trying to reduce my consumption of meat, especially beef, and this is a great excuse. In the future, if I ever have a hankering for a Whopper, I'll eat this option instead.
An impossible reality created with the help of Photoshop.
Sometimes you just need to get away. Ahem.

In my mind when she's not right there beside me I go crazy 'cause here isn't where I wanna be And satisfaction feels like a distant memory, And I can't help myself. All I wanna hear her say is are you mine?
