I have long believed that thankfulness is an attitude, a state of being if you will. It is simply the ability to see one's blessings as gifts and not as what we deserve. I have so many blessings in my life in the form of relationships that I cannot even begin to list them all. I'll never deserve the love and companionship that I share with my immortal beloved, Mony, nor the genuine paternal affection that I feel for and from my daughter, Star. But, I am so grateful for them that my heart swells with joy on a daily bases.
I give thanks also for all of my dear SL family and friends as well as all of you amazing people in Flickr who follow and encouragement constantly. God bless you richly and may this Thanksgiving find you with a grateful heart.

This is another one from the Otowa-bashi bridge in Hokkaido in northern Japan. The red-crowned cranes (or “Tancho” in Japanese) are incredible creatures renowned for their balletic mating dance and the fact that they remain partners for life. They're a big part of Japanese culture and mythology and some ancient literature claims that they are immortal. On this occasion the cranes didn’t move as close to the bridge as they usually do and they were out of the reach of most cameras, including mine. I was lucky that our guide Ando-san was a superb photographer (and Anglophile) and allowed me to use his camera and extremely long telephoto lens.
