Nikon 400mm 2.8 with X2 converter, this is one of the curious whitetail doe from a whitetail herd NW of Airdrie. Whitetails are far more photogenic than the mule deer, IMHO. There is usually a mule herd nearby but they hardly mix, I have always attributed this self awareness to their superior looks.
Michael Watson at trombone.
This last friday he played together with Dee Dee Bridgewater in Oslo. Best concert ever imho.
Wonder how the 1,2 would do here.. I can't complain about the 1,8 but I really wonder what the difference would be.. Any thoughts are welcome!
Seen off St Malo - a more attractive type of cruise ship than the floating hotels imho.
It seems to glow!
The water drops about 60 meters from the cliff above and lands into a beautiful pool below. IMHO, I think this is the most idyllic and picturesque waterfall in all of Iceland. One of the things that makes this waterfall special is the trail that goes behind the falls. It’s a little wet back there but the views are spectacular!
I am inspired by many things. Musically by the genius of Miles Davis, hence my title which refers to, IMHO, one of the best jazz albums of all time. Likewise I come to Flickr for photographic inspiration. My views on photography and indeed the many genres of photography that I attempt have been heavily influenced by so many talented people here on Flickr. One of them is Joseph Pearson Images, a London architectural photographer who has photographed so many of the same buildings and structures around London that I have but both of us do it in our own way. Its always interesting for me to see his take on a building that I am very familiar with myself and see what his 'eye' picked out. Usually it's something I've missed and so my education continues!
Yesterday Joseph posted a picture of one of my favourite underground stations here in London, Southwark station, and it got me looking back at some of the pictures I've taken over the years in this most photogenic of stations. I was surprised to see that I'd never posted this escalator shot so thought I'd do so now. Taken pre-covid, way back in 2019.
I posted this image earlier (below) in technicolor but like it a bit better in mono. More drama and moodiness in shades of gray, IMHO.
This bold beam hit a peak above the Teton's Jackson Lake.
Thanks for all your wonderful comments, faves and support. Always appreciated!
Have a wonderful week!
I'm usually pretty on it with these things up, but as soon as I started the walk-in from Barber Booth at 16:30, I realised I'd completely messed up my timings 😆 Sunset was due at 17:49, and my intended destination was Swine's Back on Kinder. Hmmmm, yes. Anyway, I had my headtorch so decided I'd use it as practice to see how quickly I could cover the 2.5 miles get up there. Channelling my inner whippet I somehow arrived just before the sun dropped beneath this huge bank of cloud and lit up the landscape.
I'd walked under Swine's Back many a time, but never over the top so had no idea what to expect, and hadn't had much luck finding images looking towards Mount Famine and South Head from there. Turns out it's alright (IMHO)!

All the best in 2016 ... Happy New Year!
I have no memory of why some the grass in this small pond was so much brighter than the others and therefore is rendered in the photo as white and not yellow? I do like it though ... lends a bit of mystery to this impressionistic image IMHO.
I'm unsure as to why it appears that they have repainted the yellow trim only ... but it makes for an interesting contrast IMHO. :)

Taken in local woodland. This is straight out of the camera with no processing. Modern cameras are brilliant if set up right. IMHO.

Goosander
12.15.04.20
I find these birds to be very shy on my local lake (when they are there) and it is a rare event to have a male Goosander. This is a bird that has to be photographed in the right light and the locations on the lake are limited so the light is always wrong except for one sweet spot on the lake. After several days attempting to catch the bird in the right spot he just wouldn't play ball. This is a shot of the bird at his nearest but the lighting is all wrong and the water looks dreadful IMHO...but for me this image is still an achievement.

I prefer using 70-200 for insects, but very rarely I carry both of my telephoto lenses inside my photo bag. 70-200 f4L gives more reach and more quality imho. The flying one (unknown species to me) just filled the frame for my 400mm. :)
Thanks to everyone for your visiting, favs & comments :).
My backyard birdie shaking off the raindrops. They predicted snow for today, instead we've had a whole lot of rain. Not complaining better than snow imho ~ Monson MA.
Looking at Maligne Lake to the left (east) of iconic Spirit Island. A beauty all to itself.
"Maligne Lake takes its name from the French word for malignant or wicked. The name was used by Father Pierre-Jean De Smet (1801–1873) to describe the turbulent river that flows from the lake (in the spring), and soon spread to the lake, canyon, pass, mountain and range. It is also possible that early French traders applied the name to the river for its treacherous confluence with the Athabasca River." Wikipedia
Sure doesn't look wicked to me, IMHO.

This shot captures the right side of our lake and the last vestiges of the fall colors taken the morning of 22nd of Oct, I love to use symmetry in shots where I can and the lake provides many quiet mornings where you can reflect on what you are doing and incorporate it into your composition.
I am always trying to uncover detail in my shooting and editing final product, I have observed in many other fantastic shots from better photographers than myself that use more shadow to draw and focus the viewers eyes on the section they want but this never felt right to my style not that I don’t incorporate this technique but just with less frequency.
I have always endeavored to lead the viewers eye around my shots with color, leading lines and selective sharpening maybe I am not always successful at this but that is what I am attempting in each shot, at its best IMHO I end up with a shot like this pictured here at its worst I end up with too much detail and the shot becomes busily muddled in search of a solitary subject.
I took this on Oct 22, 2020 with my D850 and Tamron 15-30mm G2 Lens at 30mm 2 sec f/16 ISO64 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO
Disclaimer: My style is a study of romantic realism as well as a work in progress
If you want the best camera strap. Peak Design is it IMHO. A wonderful gift from my son <3. The red dot and strap securely attach to camera, it is posed here for the shoot.
A view from Gannet and Guga sandwich bar - best on the go eatery of the Edinburgh Festival imho. Rather than choose from the menu, we were asked what sort of thing we fancied.. and it was made for us there and then fresh, tasty and friendly. A great spot with a brilliant view from the arches. Thanks G&G.
Black-neck stilt is one of the most elegant looking water bird imho and can be the most fierce birds when defending its nest.

After returning from a holiday, nothing works better to adapt is taking the role of tourist in your own city.
Shot towards the 'beaux arts' bell tower of City Hall (Henri Evers, 1920) and IMHO the most spectacular part of the Dakendagen (Roof days) Rotterdamse Dakendagen: the pedestrian bridge passing one of Rotterdams main thoroughfares, the Coolsingel. The scaffolding was realized by Dutch Steigers.
The nature of the construction material adds a fairy ground-type of thrill. The supporting towers are iron and the planks of the walkway are aluminium, and they sometimes nicely sag a bit while walking over them.
The context: "in modern cities, miles of unused flat rooftops await a new function. In Rotterdam alone, there are over 18 square kilometres of unused flat roofs. That must change, and the rooftops can provide the space to realize the housing challenge, energy transition, climate change and inclusiveness in cities". Text: from the Dakendagen website.

We are pretty lucky in SoCal to have some cool birds show up for Fall and Winter at some of the local ponds and parks. This male/female pair isn't perfectly lined up but pretty close to show off their lovely feather scheme. While the male is of course stunning, this profile clearly shows how subtly beautiful the female is in her own right. IMHO.
A view of Lake Louise from the bridge over the outlet on a bright autumn morning.
"Lake Louise is named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
The province of Alberta in Canada is named after her as well. Although the name "Louise" was originally planned for the province the Princess wished to honour her dead father, so her last name was chosen instead." wiki
Calling the province Louise would take some getting used to....Alberta seems to fit better IMHO.
Enjoy a wonderful Sunday!
Wearing Amtrak's nicest paint scheme ever (IMHO), a pair of P32-8W's show off their "Pepsi Can" image as they lead the westbound Southwest Chief. The two units have train #3 well in hand as they present a fine "Semaphore Sunday" image, crossing the southeastern Colorado plains at high speed blowing past the signals protecting Simpson.
I usually show up at the abandoned locations at sunrise, because neighbours and guards are more likely to be asleep and so there are less chances to be busted, because it is harder to find other urbexers, because I can therefore be back home with my family at breakfast time, and because sometimes you get gifts like the one I got here. Sunrises usually works better with exteriors rather than interiors, but in this case I think it turned out pretty good, IMHO

Nothing special but not bad IMHO this 28 mm. Sony, neither heavy nor expensive.....
I love these flowers, they are photogenic :)
see it on large it is wonderful IMHO.

First light on Oregon's Smith Rock, reflected in Crooked River.
I posted a technicolor version of this image yesterday. I rendered another version in b/w. While I like the color version, I prefer this monochome version. Sometimes b/w is simply more dramatic, IMHO.
Thanks for taking a look! Always appreciated!
who is the best singer??
a singing contest between a black shouldered kite (elanus caeruleu) and a lilac breasted roller(caracias caudatus)....IMHO ...i think both singer have a terrible voice:-)

It's quite hot in the sunshine again and during the day Tofu can usually be found in one of his many hideouts in the shade. In this case he hid under the Lady's Mantle in our herb garden, a particularly photogenic spot IMHO. :)

Errr. Sunrise Park these days. in the late 1800's till the 1930's there were many a mine claim and digging and blasting going on looking for gold, copper, whatever, but none of them really panned out so to speak. In the 30's the young park service took over with grand schemes of their own starting with a giant lodge that was never completed yet the beginnings of one still remains as a day lodge. They erected cabins to rent, put in a campground and facilities for such and roads...... a bustling oasis of activity with the side effect of destroying the meadows and supremely beautiful land. Then the park service decided that their mandate should be to preserve rather than promote and the arduous task of expunging and eradicating the damage began.
Today, at 6400 feet, it is the highest point that you can drive to, it is remote, home to hundreds of deer and elk, mountain goat and chipmunk and imho, the most amazing section of the park there is. If you come, come here. this is a must see, bring comfy boots and stay on the trails. It is open approximately late June/early July till the first snow, Late September/early October. A very tiny window for a very special place. They measure snowfall at Paradise which is 1000 feet lower and on the south side of the mountain with an average of 53 feet a year (a high of 93 feet) I'm guessing it's a wee bit higher here.
IMHO the prettiest of all the woodpeckers ...

This is a look back on a photo I took from 2018 in Waterton Canyon Colorado. I have not had a chance to get out this year to photograph the autumn colors. So you get an oldie but goodie imho.

"Seeking deeper meaning in spirituality"
During the summer of my thirteenth year I found a job at a rental yard near my home. After a couple of paydays I ask my parents if I could redecorate my bedroom with my own money. They exchanged dubious glances and finally agreed. Down at the local hardware store I purchased two cans of beige paint and a wall mural of this very scene. I guess you could say that it has been somehow embedded into my spirit and soul over the decade that I viewed it, and there is definitely a spiritual connection for me.
Forty one years Later:
Last month, my partner in crime Bill McIntosh and I set off for the snowy mountain peaks and grassy meadows of the Canada Rockies. This stop "Maligne Lake"
Approaching the lake was heart breaking, almost to the point of tears for me.
For those of you that don't know, the bark beetle has ravaged this area and IMHO it only has a couple of years left before its all dead......No Freaking Joke, fifty percent of the trees leading into Maligne Lake are DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
This location is purposely difficult to access or requires a boat ride to visit. It's quick too, I flew 1500 miles and was only afforded 15 minutes on land and then its back to the boat(Sadness again.) :-(
Was it all worth it, Hell Yeah!!!! Who knows if I'll ever see it that way again, before the beetles.
Spirit Island itself has its own sad love story to go along with it. It is said, a boy and girl from two different tribes would meet on Spirit Island weekly. Of course, they soon fell in love, but their tribes remained enemies. After the girl confessed the story of her forbidden love to her father (a chief), he banned her from ever returning to the Island. Heartbroken, her lover continued to visit the island, hoping to see the girl once more. He never saw her again and died on that very island and legend has it that his spirit still haunts the island, desperately searching for the girl to this very day.
Sorry to bum you guys out with all this sadness....In spite of this, Please have a great day, Hehe.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, I am always grateful for your views, comments, faves, and support, they are truly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

One day in the summer, a friend said "let's meet for morning coffee".
Sure!
Why does morning always have to mean like 8:30. It's still legally morning at 11:30.
I'm not *there* at 8:30, the world's not there, the colors aren't there.
Everything's still all in the coffee.
Late night owl people are the most unrepresented minority in the history of the world, imho.
Anyway.......Good Morning. Have a great day.
On two separate days last year, I saw several White-face flies that gravitated towards astrantia and a few other specific flowers. They're rather intimidating looking (IMHO) and very fast fliers making them quite fun to try and photograph. This one stayed atop the astrantia for only a nanosecond. Incidentally, I didn't find one white-face fly this year.
Thank you for stopping by and for leaving me a comment. Have a great day and new week ahead!

Another valley view traveling West from Aguilar, a few miles from my previous pic. IMHO, the West Peak is not quite as sculpted or picturesque as the East Peak, but is higher at 13,631 ft, compared to the East Peak at 12,688 ft. However, the valleys and woodlands surrounding the West Peak can't be beat.
A young male, I think. Santa Clara Ranch, south Texas. This imager shows just how good (IMHO) the image quality can be with the NIkon 500mm PF lens plus a 2x tele-extender.
Exquisite patterns on this '38 Ford Convertible. IMHO, the nicest of the pre-war Ford front ends. Lack of bumper allows full view of that wonderful radiator shield pattern. Graceful and Art Deco as anything out there not named Bugatti or Talbot Lago. Art Deco for the common man.
