Eight years ago I took a hike with a Flickr pal around the Kentmere Horseshoe. What a day this was. There was plenty of snow, at times far too much wind and visibility came and went. We only came across one other couple of hikers all day and they are seen here. They turned around at near enough this point. They are seen battling the elements during the final stretch of ascent to the summit of Ill Bell.

After a short nap my plan was to hike back to the tracks in time for some night photos before calling it a night. Having slept little in the last 24 hours I must not have been thinking clearly because when I arrived to the tracks I realized I forgot the top of my tripod. Seconds later horns from the west could be heard and since I had no ability to use a tripod I fumbled my settings just in time to capture the impending eastbound stack train, albeit at 1/15th of a second. At this point I was too tired to wait for another train so I'll have to be satisfied with this result until work takes me here once again.
At least I think it's Ill Bell.. I do get confused with what peak is what along that ridge ;-)

A week off from work is not going as intended. A less than desirable week of weather was predicted, except for Monday, so a change of plans occurred. Then I fell to a sudden high fever and stomach virus on Monday morning. So, while lying around my mothers home in Norwich, NY trying to get my energy back, I might as well post a couple of shots from the Chenango Valley. As in an earlier post, I described how little SW's were not cut out for the long running and speed of the Norwich local. In this shot we see an SW that has fell ill. On the left a GP rescue unit also had a falling out. On the right is a live unit just in from Binghamton and has stopped in at the yard office before continuing north to get a long waiting switch to customers in Norwich and Sherburne.
