After one of my recent Letchworth hikes I stopped at Battle Street Brewery in Dansville, about an hour south of Rochester. Whom should I see there but the founder and owner of Rohrbach Brewing, Rochester's oldest craft brewery. One gets tired of drinking one's own beer after a while.

The Letchworth "Geyser" is a natural spring on the grounds of the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth State Park. During the winter it forms a tall ice column, already well melted by the time I took this photo. It is a beautiful spot year round.

A couple weeks ago I walked over to Durand Eastman Park for my morning reading and prayers. I put the Argus C3 in the daypack. The sun was filtering through the trees most delightfully. I took several photographs around me from where I was sitting as the light changed, and one more straight up.

We got down to Stony Brook State Park last month. The gorge trail was still closed off. I walked up(!) and along the east rim trail.

There are two sets of abandoned railroad bridge piers and footings, the old ones of concrete and the really old ones of cut stone. Both bridges were well before my time.

I walked down to the Saint Helena bridge site earlier this month. Other than old bridge piers, the original town is long since covered by silt. This foundation is about half way down the valley side.

Pine trees grow tall and fast in Georgia.

(It appears that my Cinestill developer had had too many rolls of film developed with it. Both this and the previous roll were significantly under-developed. Cinestill one-step developer has its advantages, but I plan to go back to my Kodak D76.)

It was cloudy earlier - and I had driven through rain on the way down from Rochester - but the sun broke through as I walked to the Lower Falls overlook.

Wednesday, July 13 I got back to the Letchworth State Park Lower Falls area, which was still closed off when I hiked trail 1 in early June. I drove through rain showers on my way there but had no rain after I started walking. It was still overcast at the beginning of my walk with beautiful subdued lighting at the beginning and bright sun later on.

I tracked down the trailhead for a Letchworth State Park trail I had never hike, mostly because I couldn't figure out just where the trailhead was. It wasn't immediately obvious from the road. The trail itself was fairly nondescript - the remains of an old two-track - but it was pretty down by the water. I had to walk across a hundred yards or so of dried up flood plain to get to the river edge.

I scrambled down to the river edge by a deep washout cut through the flood plain by the runoff from the spring snowmelt. It was a surreal landscape.

I got to hike Stony Brook State Park one day in September. I followed the gorge trail up and the west rim back. It is a place I have hiked and photographed many times over the decades - my parents used to take us camping there as kids.

My last afternoon at the Abbey was overcast. The OM-2 and I went for a walk as the sky continued to darken. It was a somber but beautiful day.

Along the rim trail between the two Hogsback overlooks. It is about 500 feet down to the river. I was standing well back, not nearly as precariously as it would appear from the photograph.

Milady dropped me off at the dam overlook then drove down to Hogsback to read a book.

After I finished at the footbridge I back up to the main deck then up another twenty feet or so to the path through the woods to the Lower Falls overlook. The main overlook is impressive, but it's still too high to get a good photograph of the falls. (The best place to see the entire falls is from up on the gorge path.)

There is another path, unofficial but well worn, to a lower overlook. It isn't treacherous by any means, but it still a place where a look down along the way will remind one to be careful.

Friday, June 3 I hiked the Letchworth State Park trail 1 along the west side of the Genesee River gorge end-to-end with a loop back. It was a beautiful day for hiking - a few clouds and high about 75F. I took lots of photographs with the Olympus OM2 and Ilford HP5. Gaia GPS said 15.1 miles for the entire trip, which makes me think trail 1 is longer than the published 7 miles.

About three weeks ago in Durand Eastman Park on a beautiful day. I parked by the start of the yellow ski trail, followed it all the way around then down the west side of Durand Lake and over the ridge to the start of the Eastman Lake trail. I followed it along the east side of Eastman Lake then back along the west side to return to the car in the deepening dusk.
