Cấu trúc của thư yêu cầu IELTS Writing (letter of request)
Thì cũng tương tự như tiếng việt khi bạn viết một bức thư yêu cầu trong IELTS Writing General thì bạn cũng phải viết đủ các yêu cầu của một bức thư bao gồm:
Phần chào hỏi
Phần mở đầu bức thư
Phần thân bức thư
Phần kết thúc bức thư
Sử dụng lời chào hỏi thích hợp
Bạn có thể sử dụng những lời chào hỏi dưới đây sao cho phù hợp với ngữ cảnh.
Sử dụng “Dear“. Và không nên sử dụng những lời chào như “Hi“, “Hello” vì đây là một lá thư trang trọng nên bạn sử dụng những từ này sẽ không được chuyên nghiệp và lịch sự.
Sử dụng phù hợp danh xưng Mr., Mrs., và Ms. tùy trường hợp. Không sử dụng tên riêng của người nhận.
Bạn cũng có thể sử dụng cả họ và tên của họ trong phần này thay vì dùng danh xưng Mr. hoặc Mrs, khi không chắc chắn về giới tính của người nhận. Ví dụ: “Dear Casey Smith“.
Phần mở đầu của thư yêu cầu
Đây có thể coi là một phần không bắt buộc. Tuy nhiên, bạn cũng nên có một phần giới thiệu ngắn về bản thân như là nghề nghiệp hay là chức vụ để giúp cho người nhận thư hiểu rõ hơn về bạn.
Lưu ý: Bạn chỉ nên giới thiệu ngắn một đến 2 câu thôi.
Một số lời khuyên về phần giới thiệu bản thân. Và nó cũng làm tăng tính lịch sự cho bức thư.
Phần thân bài (phần quan trọng)
Để viết được một bức thư tốt cho bài thi IELTS Writing General, bạn sẽ cần nghĩ ra được nhiều thông tin về tình huống, sắp xếp thông tin hợp lý. Trực tiếp nói ra mục đích của thư ngay từ ban đầu một cách lịch sự và rõ ràng kèm theo những thông tin cần thiết liên quan đến vấn đề (không vòng vo)
Sau đoạn văn giới thiệu về bản thân bạn, hãy nói về mục đích của lá thư ở đoạn ngay sau đó một cách lịch sự và rõ ràng. Đồng thời, cũng nên nói luôn những thông tin cần thiết nhất có liên quan đến mục đích của lá thư. Ví dụ, một cuộc hẹn sẽ cần có ngày, và giờ cụ thể.
Đừng nên viết như sau: “I need your help” (Tôi cần sự trợ giúp) hay “I heard you could do this for me” (Tôi nghe nói bạn có thể làm giúp tôi việc này).
Nên viết: “Would it be possible …” (Liệu có thể ….) hoặc “I would be grateful if you would …” (Tôi sẽ rất biết ơn nếu bạn có thể ….)
Ví dụ:
“I would be grateful if you would let me borrow your tools and help me get my truck tuned up.” (Tôi sẽ rất biết ơn nếu bạn có thể cho tôi mượn bộ đồ nghề của bạn và giúp tôi sửa cái xe tải này.)
Phần kết bài
Vì là một bức thư yêu cầu, vì thế bạn cần luôn luôn thể hiện sự sẵn lòng giúp đỡ và biết ơn đến người nhận thư. Một câu đơn giản như” “Please let me know if you need any more information” (Hãy cho tôi biết nếu bạn cần thêm thông tin” có thể thể hiện được sự sẵn lòng, luôn luôn sẵn sàng để làm việc cùng nhau và có thể giúp đỡ họ hết mức có thể.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you to request you refund a recent online purchase I have made from your company. Allow me to elaborate on exactly why I would like this course of action to be realized. I purchased a new tablet computer from your website last month to give to a friend of mine for his birthday. Unfortunately, it appears that he already has the same tablet computer in his office and thus has no need for the one I bought for him. I hope you can empathize with my situation. Having a tablet of my own, I really have no need for the item I purchased from you.
Thus, I would like to return this item to you for a refund. From your website I understand that if I send the item by mail to you within 60 days of the purchase date, I can expect to have my account credited for the full purchase price.

turned out to be way more expensive than we were anticipating. The trip is a surprise gift from my wife’s father, and we only received news of it yesterday. Thus, we did not have the time we needed to arrange proper accommodation for Tiger. I was hoping you wouldn’t mind putting Tiger up for 3 nights at your place. I know I am not giving you much notice, but the whole situation has really taken us by surprise. I would be so grateful if you could help my wife and I out with this problem.
