Hung Hom is a neighbourhood on the southern tip of Kowloon, in Hong Kong, with a mix of residential and industrial buildings.
Love this small small jogging trail.
However, the great view will most likely be blocked in the near future. The existing outdoor car park in the photo is one of the most expensive land (originally the location of 山谷村) sold in Hong Kong. There will be another group of skyscrapers soon.
The Whampoa Shopping Centre, located in Hung Hom, Hong Kong, is a distinctive retail complex that opened in 1985. It is built on the site of the former Whampoa Dockyard, one of Hong Kong's key shipbuilding yards, which ceased operations in the 1970s. Reflecting its maritime heritage, the shopping centre features a unique architectural design, most notably a large, ship-shaped structure that is a central and iconic element of the complex. This "ship" houses various shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The architecture blends modern retail design with historical references, preserving a link to the area's industrial past while serving contemporary commercial needs.

Hung Hom KCR Station

This photo has quite a complicated story. I was studying late into the night as usual when suddenly a thundering noise passed by outside. When I looked, there was a helicopter a few feet from my window! Of course it wasn't really that close, but it was much much closer to the shore than any other helicopter has ever ventured. At first I thought HK was suddenly engaged in some kind of war. Upon closer inspection of the helicopter as it flew by (it flew past about 6 times), I noticed it was shining a searchlight. Thank goodness. Not war, but probably a search for illegal immigrants (that happens every once in a while except helicopters are rare..the police ships usually raid the immigrants' ships and shout at them through loudspeakers). So I went back to studying with a feeling of relief. But I found out 2 days later that it wasn't a search for immigrants at all. It was actually a search for an elderly woman who jumped into the ocean. The newspaper said that an elderly couple were walking along the shore, when the wife (who had alzheimer's) jumped into the ocean with no warning. Her husband desperately searched for her, and eventually a search party was dispatched (the helicopter and search ships that I saw). Unfortunately they didn't find her that night. Her corpse floated to the Hunghom ferry pier instead. And all along I had thought it was just an ordinary raid. May she rest in peace and may her husband find a peace of mind even without her beside him.
