This is the accompanying picture of my dad's house plant; a close up of the soil and plant. As you can see the soil is very dark and rich, he waters it often and the soil stays moist. But what I found most interesting was that since the plant is inside, it does not have the natural components of the weather and other organisms. So to make up for that and to keep the soil fertile, my dad occasionally puts dry leaves in the pot and allows for the humus to form. Eventually the leaves decompose and absorb into the soil, allowing the plant to grow in good dirt.
