Plinthite (Gr. plinthos, brick) is an iron-rich, humus-poor mixture of clay with quartz and other highly weathered minerals. It commonly occurs as reddish redox concentrations in a layer that has a polygonal (irregular), platy (lenticular), or reticulate (blocky) pattern. See “Soil Taxonomy” (Soil Survey Staff, 1999) for a complete disscussion.
Upper photo: Nodular plinthite. A moist body of plinthite withstands moderate rolling between the thumb and forefinger, and either moist or air dry it will not slake when submerged in water even with periodic gentle agitation. It is firm when moist and hard to very hard when dry, yet can be broken in the hands.
Lower photo: Platy plinthite. This form of plinthite often occurs in association with an underlying aquitard layer that perches water aiding in the formation of an iron enriched zone.
Plinthite irreversibly hardens upon exposure to repeated wetting and drying, especially if exposed to heat from the sun. Other morphologically similar iron-rich materials that do not progressively harden upon repeated wetting and drying are not considered plinthite. The horizon in which plinthite occurs commonly has 2.5 percent (by mass) or more citrate dithionite extractable iron in the fine-earth fraction and a ratio between acid oxalate extractable Fe and citrate-dithionite extractable Fe of less than 0.10.

Deve essere stata lì giorni e giorni in attesa di qualcuno che la notasse... Per caso.
500 gallon spray rig; will be fitted with an intake on the bottom to accept the line from a blower; it will be used to extract biology from produced humus to spread on the fallow field. The field will be planted with feed corn. Non-round-up ready seed will be used.

Chicken Parmesan served with pita chips, humus, and salad over green beans with a side of tomato sauce. The chicken was tender, and apart from the salad dressing I really enjoyed this meal.
Funnily enough this is the same meal I had on a ORD-DFW lunch flight back in October (see related trip report). The other option on both flights was a shrimp salad (called a 5 Prawn salad on this flight).
Sashimi de tonyina marinada amb hummus, un platet que va estar genial per a començar. Boníssim!, era petit i se’ns va quedar molt curt.
