I took this photo at one of the first beaches I used to visit for photography - Spoon Bay. It was also where I lost my first camera to the wave gods. It was also one of the first pics taken with my first Olympus micro 4/3 camera. Lots of firsts. Does the red algae in this photo remind anyone else of War of the World and the red weed?
Did you know that the algae in this shot married some weed? I hear their marriage is on the rocks now 😬 I heard the music at their wedding was quite interesting , all algae rhythms

This is the amazing World Heritage area, Mungo National Park in outback NSW. It was an incredible feeling standing on that ridge watching a sunset just as our long-gone ancestors did 40,000 years ago. Something so raw and natural that all humans share.
So why so amazing? Mungo Lady and Mungo Man are perhaps the most important human remains ever found in Australia. These 42,000 year old ritual burials are some of the oldest remains of Homo sapiens yet found outside of Africa. Mungo Lady is the oldest known cremation in the world, representing the early emergence of humanity's spiritual beliefs.
Apart from the cultural significance Mungo is an outstanding example representing significant ongoing geological processes, that I could never hope to explain. It was a fascinating place to visit and get some feel for how little time us humans have been around.
Bonus was sleeping in a swag with a campfire looking at that same sky as people did all those eons ago. Hoping the emus roaming through the campsite didn't trample on my swag accidently. That may have been the red wine though ;)
PS - the landscape does remind me of some of the desserts I was lucky enough to visit in USA.

So this Booma, who I liked to think of as my little mini-beast
friend. Booma & Ranga were my two pet leaf insects who sadly passed away last. year. They made great low maintenance pets! A cluster of gum leaves, spray their enclosure with some water mist every couple of days and they were happy campers. They liked going out to play now and then, in some of the potted plants around the yard. Ranga, the female, used to like play acting the scene from Titanic and hanging from my fingers, arms into the wind. She was Rose, and I was, ahmmm, the Titanic. Bonus thing is they were great for terrifying some of the lady neighbours too 😉 I miss my cute little mini-beasty friends
Fun facts about leaf insects:
- they walk in a rocking motion, and when they are in amongst the leaves, they sway to imitate the wind blowing on real leaves.
- If no males are around, the female is able to reproduce by herself.
If you are wondering about their names, think about them in the context of stick insects

This is another of the magnificent leopards in Sabi Sands reserve, South Africa, while out on an early morning drive. Those 300mm (600mm 35m equiv) lenses come in quite handy for some handheld shooting from the back of a jeep!

This grand piano won't produce any other sounds than that of cracking wood any more – it's a mere wooden hull, the keyboard and the strings are long gone. But perhaps the sound of this grand piano, played by invisible hands, is inaudible only to us, and every night at 12, when the clock strikes the witching hour, the spirits of the sanatorium meet there for the grand ball...
Another one from the abandoned lung sanatorium somewhere near Berlin. It was the first sanatorium for pulmonary tuberculosis in northern Germany and was founded by the German Red Cross in 1896. After the Second World War, from 1945–1995, the building complex was used as a Soviet military hospital (note the Russian slogan above the stage; unfortunately, I'm unable to read it). I have no idea what's it about the painted cross on the floor (or is is a hopscotch pattern?)...

Does anyone else have thousands of photos sitting on their computer's hard disk that have never seen the light of day? I've been cleaning up my archives and thought I might let one out every now & again. They are great for bringing back memories. Thanks for indulging me strolling down memory lane.
This was taken from Hill Inlet looking over the unbelievable paradise that is Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland. The water is really that amazing colour and the silica sand so incredibly white & fine. Google Hill Inlet Whitehaven & your screen will fill images like this one. Impossible to take a bad photo there! And yes, it's the same place as the pic that has been my profile background all this time.
This was on a daytrip out from a cruise with couple of dozen friends for a mate's 50th & brings back lots of fun memories :)) This day of being jolted along on an ocean raft travelling at knots while hungover. And hundreds of fish swimming between your legs in the shallows at Whitehaven trying to get breadcrumbs you have thrown in to try and get some underwater pics with your GoPro. And the amazing snorkelling. Okay I'm stopping now, need to book a cruise to Whitehaven ;)

Before autumn finally gives way to winter, here's another image from a photowalk with Flickr friends back in November 2018. This a a view westwards from the rooftop terrace of the Reichstag building. While the Reichstag building's rooftop terrace is by no means the highest viewpoint in Berlin, you still have a pretty good view over the city in all four directions. And on that particular(ly cold) day we enjoyed a lovely golden hour up there that ended in a really spectacular sunset later.
Some of the builings you can see here are amongst Berlin's landmarks: there's the Victory Column with the gilded statue of Victoria on top – which was featured in the video for U2's song "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" from their 1993 album Zooropa, and also in Wim Wender's movie Wings of Desire (1987). The tower on the right behind the Victory column which looks like the Eiffel tower's little brother is the Berlin Radio Tower which was inaugurated in 1926. On the left behind the Victory Column you can see the Teufelsberg ("Devil's mountain"), a rubble mountain which also covers the unfinished Nazi military-technical college (Wehrtechnische Fakultät); on top of the Teufelsberg you can see the remains of a former US listening station (the buildings with those spherical roofs). And the tower at the far right is the Tiergarten Carillon, the closest building to the Reichtags building in that direction. The 42 meter high Carillon is a large, manually played "Glockenspiel" consisting of 68 bells; it's located in Berlin's largest park, the Tiergarten (all those colourful tree tops you can see).
At first I thought I'd crop the image to get rid of the decorative roof element which you can see on the left. But then I thought that it's actually another layer in this multi-layered city image and also a nice anchor or entry point. Regarding the sky I should admit that I needed "a little help from my friends" aka photo editing software (Luminar AI to be precise): While the colours which you see are pretty much true to the golden hour colours we'd had on that afternoon – a warm, golden glow on the horizon that started to rise into the bright blue November sky – there was a fairly large area blown-out from the low afternoon sun which, for me, would have ruined the image. Other than that I've edited the image in Color Efex Pro starting from the preset "Warm Sunset".

This is the "berlin cube", a brand new building and architectural highlight right by Berlin's central station, the Hauptbahnhof. The ten-storey office building with a width, height and length of 42.5 metres each was designed by 3XN Architects from Copenhagen in an
energy-efficient way and is equipped with the latest technology, including 3,800 sensors for smart control. The photographical highlight is the glass facade with triangle shaped elements that reflect the surroundings like a kaleidoscope. The cube is great fun – and also quite challenging – to photograph, and I will return there soon with a different lens line-up :-) Should you happen to visit Berlin some day, the "berlin cube" should be on your list of things to photograph. The Hauptbahnhof itself is interesting, too, and the Government district and other points of photographic interest are near by.

Das wohl auffälligste Element dieses 42,5 m breiten und hohen Würfels ist die Glasfassade, die mit nach innen gerichteten Dreieckselementen ausgestattet wurde, die die Umgebung kaleidoskopartig widerspiegeln. Im Innern ist der vom Kopenhagener Architekturbüro 3XN entworfene und in energieeffizienter Bauweise errichtete Cube mit modernster Technologie, darunter 3.800 Sensoren für intelligente Steuerung, ausgestattet. Es macht großen Spaß, dort zu fotografieren und ich werde sicher bald wieder vorbeischauen, dann mit anderen Brennweiten für einen ganz neuen Blick auf den Cube. Wenn Ihr mal in Berlin seid, solltet Ihr unbedingt dort vorbeischauen. Das Regierungsviertel und andere Sehenswürdigkeiten sind auch nicht weit, sodass man sich dort locker einen Tag fotografisch austoben kann ;-)

This is the wee little halfway beach I mentioned in the last post. I called it temporary because it disappears under the ocean other than at low tide. I find that amazing that life survives in these zones that go from being underwater to open. It is these "zones" where any of the elements meet that intrigue me the most. Anyway, enough waffling, happy Humpday everyone!

Hello there! I hope all is well! Happy Humpday my friends! I am here featuring Chez Moi with the Havanna Wicker couch at Cosmopolitan and JIAN with the Woodpecker and Magnolias set at FaMESHed! I set up a very lush green space with the Magnolia trees flower version. There is a version without them if you are not a flower person. The set also comes with these awesome woodpeckers that are animated on each tree. The Wicker couch comes with a texture change hud that changes the wicker color and the cloth/pillow colors and many nice animations. My color theme was mainly green/white/cream. I added some furry friends to give the space more personality and color. I can never use enough or too many pets! LOL I just wanted a nice green lush outdoor space and this is what I came up with! After being nominated by several people here is my SLBareface Challenge 2020 picture.
I guess not that different to my usual pictures anyways as I barely use any makeup except a little eyeliner. My lashes as they are also not that big I kept on, as even without makeup I have some in RL right? But I took off my hair and wrapped it up so the attention is on the face.

So after the rockshelf trekking in the previous photos I finally arrived at Deadman's beach. I found this solitary shell living its best life on the wonderful wild, rocky beach, clearly not missing the sand one bit. It was lounging among the stones, gazing out at the lush green ocean, pondering deep mollusk thoughts. The Wybung Head headland was hanging around in the background, while fluffy white clouds playfully littered the blue sky. If I was this shell, I would have sent a postcard to all my shell friends bragging about being shell paradise.
When I positioning the shell in a more photo-friendly spot, I was unexpectantly interrupted by something black and hairy popping out of the shell, scared the heck out of me. Apparently, the shell had a surprise tenant who was not thrilled about my photo shoot!
