Fue fundada en 1530 por el boyardo Teodor Bubuiog, canciller de Petru Rares, enterrado aquí junto con su mujer Anastasia, y reemplazó la iglesia anterior que había sido destruida. Pero esa era una época peligrosa en la que se produjeron muchos saqueos y incendios provocados por el malestar social y los ataques desde el exterior. El monasterio se fortificó añadiendo una muralla defensiva en 1641. Hoy en día solo se conserva una torre, el campanario, y una estacada de madera.
Los Cosacos incendiaron el monasterio en 1653, y durante el siglo XVIII, cuando los austriacos ocuparon Bucovina y suprimieron los monasterios ortodoxos (1786), se convirtió en una simple parroquia. Se restableció como convento en 1990.

A perplexing ad by Bild Magazine in Germany
Another great example of Glaswegian humor. Someone had the ingenuity to take a few ping-pong balls, draw an eye on them, and shove them into the empty eye sockets of the skull on a statue! Genius!
Unfortunately, one of the eye balls is now missing.
