I don't generally talk about smoking cigars unless I'm among others that I know do as well, so it may surprise some of you to see that I've purchased a humidor. This year in particular I found myself on the backyard deck with a fine stick of tobacco or two in hand numerous times. It has gotten to the point where it makes sense to keep a few on hand, so I bought this 125 count, Ville II, glass-top, high-gloss humidor.
My friend and colleague, Terry Ryan, advised to be weary of too large a humidor, and too much glass. While I did size down from the 200 count I was looking at, I couldn't resist the glass top. Sorry Terry - too many pretty things inside to look at. Though I've seen thicker cedar, this worked out to be in my price point. It has a good seal, so I have faith that it will protect my collection.
I found a fancy for the drawer on the bottom as I was browsing the various options. I have a number of accessories that will find a nice home there.
The hygrometer is stock, and right now sits just above 40% - ouch! Welcome to Colorado. I ordered a Boveda seasoning kit that should be arriving in the next couple of days. Then I've also signed up for Boveda Direct to get packets shipped to me automatically. I've been using Boveda packets for a while with zip-lock bags and have been really pleased. I'm sure they'll hold up well to this climate.
Long term, I've been cooking up a wi-fi-enabled, Arduino-powered, temperature and humidity sensor project. Yup, I plan on drilling a small hole in the humidor and running a small, high-precision sensor into it - that is, as soon as I find a sure-fire way to put the seal back in place. Right now I'm looking at a PS2 port.
That will run to another cigar box (not humidor) sitting next to the humidor. That too will have a PS2 port on it, as well as an attached power adapter plug. Inside of the cigar box will be an Arduino, wi-fi shield from AsyncLabs, and any other related wiring. The idea is to keep the heat of the processor away from the tobacco.
The data will be broadcast to a personal server "in the cloud" every minute (or so), and I'll have a web application, as well as a mobile application (e.g. iPhone) to show me the status of my humidor. I'll probably put some form of email or SMS alert notification in case the humidity or temperature falls outside of a comfortable range too. But those are other pictures for another day.

Brown's Cigar Store is the heart of Corning's Gaffer District and a time honored tradition, offering the Corning area the finest cigars and tobacco products, brands from A. Fuente, Dunhill, H. Upmann, Macanudo, Padron & Zippo to name a few.
Since 1889 Brown's Cigar Store has been a place where your grandfathers got a haircut, purchased steamship tickets, discussed family, friends, politics and solved the world's problems. At Brown's Cigar Store you can take that step back in time. The glass, oak and marble humidors keep all tobacco products at their very best.
Brown's Cigar Store is proudly owned by the Smith Family. Sue, Terry & Bejay are second generation tobacconists with many years of experience and knowledge.

And the ladies who love them. We've got simply tons of iconic, 'gentlemen's-club' vibe pieces in the store right now. So we decided to pull them ALL together into one glorious 'room.' We've got the whiskey and so on but maybe require some Havanas so everyone can fully bliss out in the comfort of the Chesterfield or the vintage barber's chair. Perhaps we also need a distinguished manservant in white tie who anticipates one's every wish almost before it is formed and reacts accordingly. "Alfred, would you--" "I took the liberty of putting Jay-Z's Black Album on, sir. It seemed time for Jigga." "Good show, Alfred, just what I was about to say!"

GONE--This safe, made by the "Robinson's Bent Steel Safes Co.", est. 1850, is truly amazing. It is very old: quite certainly pre-WWII and likely pre-WWI as well. Currently without a key, it opens with the handle, and has one small shelf and drawer inside. Would make an amazing humidor! You'll have to shell out for delivery on this one, people. Heavy as a mofo. 45x45, height 61cm

Melbourne Cup draw: Almandin draws hindrance 14 as it hopes to guard title
Williams has six sprinters in the Cup at Flemington on Tuesday, three — Almandin, Bondi Beach and Gallante — prepared by Robert Hickmott in Victoria.
Johannes Vermeer could give champion Irish mentor Aidan O'Brien his initially Cup while Willams' other two — US Army Ranger and Rekindling are set up by O'Brien's child Joseph.
Almandin is at $7 to win again from hindrance 14, three inside his 2016 obstruction.
Hindrance attract full (maneuvers in sections)
Bondi Beach (Michael Walker)
Max Dynamite (Zac Purton)
Johannes Vermeer (Ben Melham)
Reviving (Corey Brown)
Huge Duke (Brenton Avdulla)
Ventura Storm (Glen Boss)
Libran (Dwayne Dunn)
Wicklow Brave (Stephen Baster)
Blast Time (Cory Parish)
Amelie's Star (Dean Yendall)
Single Gaze (Kathy O'Hara)
Hartnell (Damien Lane)
Humidor (Blake Shinn)
Almandin (Frankie Dettori)
Mass of Fire (Craig Williams)
Marmelo (Hugh Bowman)
Cismontane (Beau Mertens)
Gallante (Michael Dee)
Nakeeta (Glyn Schofield)
Who Shot Thebarman (Tommy Berry)
Thomas Hobson (Joao Moreira)
US Army Ranger (Jamie Spencer)
Tiberian (Olivier Peslier)
Red Cardinal (Kerrin McEvoy)
Marmelo, one of a record-equalling 11 European-prepared sprinters, is the $8 second most loved and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman for Hughie Morrison from boundary 16.
"He can go to the front or he can sit back," Morrison said.
"I've been extremely content with him the most recent couple of days and I figure he will go well."
The Darren Weir-prepared Humidor, sprinter up to Winx in the Cox Plate after an unfortunate Caulfield Cup, is at $9 and will bounce from door 13.
A year ago's third placegetter, Hartnell, dashing for Godolphin and Sheik Mohammed's Australian coach James Cummings is a $21 chance from 12.
"That is great. I figure things can stream on well from that point," Cummings said.
"He's spruced up well finished the most recent couple of weeks."
Caulfield Cup victor Boom Time has boundary nine and is a $26 chance in a race which has customarily been a manual for the Cup in the past while sprinter up Single Gaze is at $34.
Canberra female horse Single Gaze's strapper and friend, Billy Owen, drew obstruction 11 and was satisfied, yet more critically so was his maneuver Kathy O'Hara who rode in Sydney on Saturday.
"I hadn't got off the stage and Kathy messaged me to express gratitude toward me," Owen said.
The Gai Waterhouse-prepared Cismontane earned his place with triumph in the Lexus Stakes on Saturday and last season's champion disciple Beau Mertens has picked up the ride at 50 kilograms.
New Zealand's expectations were dashed when the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-prepared Jon Snow was precluded on the grounds that he was resolved to be weak by Racing Victoria vets.
His nonattendance implies Thomas Hobson joins his Willie Mullins-prepared stablemates Max Dynamite and Wicklow Brave in the race.
