with a break in the weather, i decided to do another alley walk this afternoon.. it really felt like fall i think :)
usually it's the first or the end of the month that the alleys are crammed full of stuff..
A group of friends twice a month to the safety of my garage to escape reality-life-wives & enjoy an evening of cards & cigars. For a few hours nothing else matters but a good cigar & hopefully a little luck, The only black cloud over this event is that we are in a garage in the Summer - in Louisiana - in 100+ degree heat ( a balmy 89 @ 9pm). Humidity is so bad, we go thru 2 packs or more of cards in an evening- bright spot is we have a natural humidor. The idea of a personalized Cigar Cave to enjoy these evenings, w/ climate control - big screen TV - Leather Back chairs - Ice Machine - New Humidor Fully Stocked - Let me tell you these Swamp Rats (coonasses/cajuns) would be in High cotten & maybe 1 or 2 in Divorce court but good times. L'aissez les bon temps rouler or let the good times roll.

Il piacere cubano è qualcosa che ti entra dentro a poco a poco, raramente è un colpo di fulmine. Ma questa edizione regionale Italia per una delle poche fumate capace di affascinare al primo puff. È davvero difficile resistere alla dolcezza di miele e frutta candita mista a nocciola che invade da subito il palato per poi evolvere in una fumata dal carattere deciso e pepato. Del resto questa casa cubana, fondata nel 1834 (è oggi tra le quattro più antiche) da Ignacio Larranaga, in passato la preferita da Kipling e poi Orson Welles non ha un vitolario molto articolato per cui l'arrivo di questo Small Robusto ha destato subito molta curiosità. Por Larranaga è stata la prima a meccanizzarsi nel 1925 per poi tornare al manuale , per diventare alla fine degli anni '50 tra le marche più ambite fino a coprire il 5% del mercato, mentre oggi copre meno Dell 1%.
Dicevamo dell'inizio carnoso e dolce che rende giustizia al "robusto" ma senza risultare troppo impegnativo.
Degno di nota soprattutto l'equilibrio fine e consistente già intuibile dalla costruzione accurata e dall'aspetto lucente della capa. Fumata regolare con solo una piccola correzione verso il secondo tercio.
Il finale abbandona il miele e la dolcezza per puntare su terra e toni legnosi più sottili e amaricanti ma contribuiscono a svegliare la fumata in modo egregio.
Pronto da fumare, può anche attendere un paio d'anni nell'humidor per risolvere in maniera elegante l'ultimo tercio. 91
Oltre al classico caffè, con meno note terrose possibili, si accompagna bene ad aperitivi anche da spiaggia come un classico Mojito ma anche una delle sue rivisitazioni come quella sorprendente di Masi a base di Recioto della Valpolicella.
