ready for distance learning by hiphophooray

Effective distance learning shouldn't cost an arm-and-leg, but does require some investment. These solutions helped us:

1) Orbi mesh WiFi router with Gigabyte internet service

2) Wired ethernet connection w CAT8 patch cable = stable uploads + 10% faster downloads compared to a CAT6 patch cable;

3) Gamer headset w a good noise isolating mic = Razer Kraken

4) Good computer speakers = Bose Companion 2

5) 27" IPS monitor w a min. 75 Hz refresh rate for non-gamers + 5 Ms response time + 1920 x 1080 HD resolution

The 27" LG IPS monitor, above, cost $150 shipped from Costco

6) Full-motion bracket for monitors = Sanus, Kanto & QualGear all make solid, full-motion brackets that extend, swivel & tilt. A good flush-mount bracket should weigh at least 35 lbs. Also, Kanto & QualGear make white brackets that blend w most walls and their quality is as good as Sanus w/o the premium

Since I already work from home, we had a home office with a robust WiFi network in place & the kids already had laptops for school. But for anyone who still needs a computer, there are numerous technology assistance programs available. E.g., Computers-2-Kids supplies Lenovo desktops or laptops for $100/ea.

After the initial workstations are set up, also consider a backup UPS system (APC or CyberPower) that can supply ~1hr of backup power in the event of a power outage.
