On Thursday, November 14th in Weill Hall, the Ford School presented “Human Rights on the Brink,” a conversation with Michael Breen. As president and CEO of Human Rights First, Breen has advanced the organization’s mission to ensure that the United States is a global leader on human rights.
Before the event, Breen visited Ann Lin's PubPol 320 class: Politics, Political Institutions, and Public Policy.

Em novembro de 2011, entrou em vigor a Lei 12.519, que instituiu o 20 de novembro como Dia de Zumbi e da Consciência Negra. Este ano, o governo do Rio Grande do Sul oficializou 2021 como ano do cinquentenário da data, pois foi em Porto Alegre que o Grupo Palmares realizou um primeiro ato em 1971 para homenagear Zumbi do Quilombo de Palmares.
A partir desse ato, a Secretaria de Estado da Cultura do Rio Grande do Sul (Sedac) se junta aos movimentos sociais e à sociedade civil para celebrar a data. Estão previstas celebrações, eventos e atividades culturais até 20 de novembro. O decreto foi assinado no Dia Nacional de Denúncia Contra o Racismo, uma alternativa à data em que foi assinada a Lei Áurea.
Neste ano, o Senado aprovou o PLS 482/2017, projeto que torna a data feriado nacional, com objetivo de enfatizar e valorizar a luta do povo negro e fortalecer o processo de conscientização de seus desafios.

Renowned photographer John Quigley who has created similar aerial human images in the Arctic and
the Amazon, directed the event.
Nearly 100 teams took part in the 2019 Human Exploration Rover Challenge, held April 12-13 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The competition, hosted by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, challenges high school and college teams to design, build and test human-powered roving vehicles inspired by the Apollo lunar missions and future exploration missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. This year’s competition marked 25 years since the inaugural event.
