The Alhambra, arguably one of the most beautiful human creations on Earth, was built during the last Islamic sultanate on the Iberian peninsula....the Nasrid Dynasty (1238-1492). It is lavishly decorated with stone and wood carvings and intricate tile patterns on most of the ceilings, walls and floors. Islamic art does not use representations of living beings, but heavily uses geometric patterns, especially symmetric (repeating) patterns.
The geometric world of the mosaic is related to the obsessive idea of the unity of God....Out of that supreme unity, perfect and unalterable, emerges all it created. Reproduction of the unity is a form of proving the existence of the original source. Any mathematical speculation is a reflection of the Divinity and its infinite forms. The mosaic is one of them.
