nothing moved. not even the smoke. it just floated out of the dark like an answer nobody asked for. winter, stillness, valencia.
two shadows pause on an ancient wall, not quite touching, not quite apart — as if time split into mirrored halves. the light etches a silent meeting between presence and memory, where forms dissolve but meaning remains.
n the promenade of portixol. a man, half in light, half in shadow, resting on a bench. above him a slatted roof, beneath him his own double in silhouette. the sky is bare, the sea restless. he could be anywhere – but he’s right here. caught between stillness and shine.
a mannequin, a halo, a hand that refuses compliance. this image walks the line between irony and iconography — a sculptural gesture of defiance, captured in stark black and white. holy or heretic? you decide.
in the silent tension between flesh and steel, she becomes part of the structure — not resting, not posing, but momentarily belonging. like a thought stretched across the vanishing point.

The New Ashmolean
Founded in 1683, The Ashmolean re-opened on Saturday 7th November 2009. Their new display approach is "crossing culture crossing time." It was my first glimpse today, the much loved older museum is still here, but now enormously extended and plenty more to enjoy.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ashmolean is currently undergoing a £61 million redevelopment. Award-winning architect Rick Mather has designed a new building to replace all but the Grade I listed Cockerell building. His design will double the existing gallery space, allow environmental control, and create a dedicated Education Centre and conservation facilities.
I've tried to show something of the atmosphere and texture of the museum in many of the photos, I also wanted to convey the sense of movement and people's interaction with the art objects, therefor razor sharp clarity (were I to achieve that) was not my number one objective. This set will grow as I explore the new galleries, I hope you'll forgive me if I do not tag or describe everything right away as there is so much to take in! Martin Beek Oxford, November 2009
I was suddenly struck with a strong need to do something with the human face after so much abstraction and Surrealist imagery. Bringing things home to the human face is a form of touching some kind of artistic motherlode. This might be a new avenue that I'll explore in 2014.

Again, the actual color and look of the scene. Didn't do much with this other than crop and border. Haze worked a little bit. I hope you like this one. Only 3 more to go in the set! Aren'tcha glad???????
It would have been more but the haze really screwed up my shots of Haystack Rock at sunset and I just didn't want to go through the effort for them once I got home.

This past month has been a rather incredible breakdown of my workflow...First I had to get a new laptop, and right after, my camera broke. This past weekend my Mac broke, and last week my email stopped working. It has been a strange month, but all an amazing reminder that we are not bound to our equipment, and that even in times of stress we can find the good in everything - it is always there, waiting to be found.
The video quality on this week's Promoting Passion video isn't as good as I would like, but instead of stressing over it I'm just presenting it as-is - the best I could do with very limited equipment, and perhaps adding in an extra smile :)
