This is the floor plan of a 1058 sq foot bungalow I designed . It has 3 double bedrooms ( master bedroom with ensuite and changing area) A decent sized kitchen/diner and a separate utility room. The shaded areas represent furniture/beds/wardrobes etc
The main purpose of the design was to have the three main rooms in the house (lounge/master bedroom/kitchen) situated at the rear of the property so they were not overlooked and we could look out on the 3 acres of land. The estimated build cost at the time was £28 per square foot ( which was very low as I would do most of the interior work myself) so the house would cost about £29000 to build. The plot was a ridiculously cheap £21000 so total costs would have been less than £50000 for a good sized bungalow on 3 acres of land which was at leat 30% less than it would have been worth then.
In 1992 we were a week off completing on the building plot and I had planning permission to build this property when my ex decided she was leaving so it never happened.
6 months later the architect who converted my drawings into plans good enough to pass building /planning regulations contacted me and said he'd showed my plans to the people who'd bought the land after I pulled out and could they build it using my plans.
l agreed, so although it's not mine, at least it has been built and it's now a mature property with lovely landscaped gardens around it.
