The Elwood Haynes Museum is a museum in the former mansion owned by Elwood Haynes located in Kokomo, Indiana. Haynes was an inventor who is credited with being the first to produce cars commercially in 1894. He also invented stainless steel and stellite. He became a millionaire in 1916 and had the mansion located on south Webster Street built, where he lived until his death in 1925.
In 1957, the mansion was sold by Elwood's son, March Haynes, to Martin J. Caserio, General Manager of Delco Radio Division of General Motors, who lived in it with his family. When Caserio was transferred to Detroit in 1964, GM purchased the house in the Executive Relocation Program and it stood vacant until 1965 when it was purchased by Elwood Haynes' daughter, Bernice Haynes Hillis, who donated it to the city of Kokomo for the purpose it currently serves today. Since 1967 it has been open to the public and the museum curators have collected many of Haynes' original inventions to display in the building. Also housed in the museum are over 15,000 documents and photographs from Haynes' personal and business correspondence dating from 1877. The museum features exhibits on the life of Haynes and is open the public who can tour the building. His private laboratory is located across the street but is currently a private residence and cannot be toured
The Indiana Roof Ballroom, affectionately called the “Roof,” has been an important part of downtown Indianapolis since 1927 when it first opened it's doors. Located above the Indiana Repertory Theatre, it has hosted famous performers, big band dances, fundraisers, corporate parties, weddings and special events for nearly a century, and is considered one of the most historic venues in the entire Midwest.
Dreamed up in 1926 by Edgar O. Hunter and Preston Rubush, the Roof first opened in September of 1927. Designed to appear as if you were in a European village, no detail was forgotten. Painted grapevines creep up plaster columns and the stucco facades, doorways and balconies contain exquisite details and even the staircase railings have ornate woodwork. The domed ceiling resembles a starry night sky, with soft clouds and a crescent moon.
ndiana Repertory Theatre, frequently abbreviated IRT, is a professional regional theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana that began as a genuine repertory theatre with its casts performing in multiple shows at once. It has subsequently become a regional theatre and a member of the League of Resident Theatres. A standard season typically consists of nine or ten plays on two different stages (with at least two selected especially although not exclusively for student audiences, one of which is often a Shakespeare play) and the bulk of its season (including a holiday show, usually Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol) performed on the OneAmerica Stage.
The theatre company has history in two theatre buildings. It began in 1972 in The Athenaeum. In 1980, the IRT moved to its current home, The Indiana Theatre, a former Paramount Pictures Publix Theatre at 140 West Washington Street, built in 1927 and converted from a movie theater for IRT's

McDonald's has pulled the plug on its concept of diner restaurants that it was test marketing in several Indiana cities, converting them to the chain's conventional menu and design.
The "McDonald's with the Diner Inside" began in Kokomo in 2001 as a test to see whether a different decor and an expanded menu with items such as sliced turkey, mashed potatoes and open-faced sandwiches could boost business.
Wednesday was the last day for the diner menu at the McDonald's near Lafayette's Tippecanoe Mall. The signs for the inaugural diner in Kokomo were taken down the same day.
Diners were also tried in Tipton, Evansville and Whiteland, along with the Kentucky cities of Henderson and Owensboro.

Portrait and Biological Record of Southeastern Kansas, Containing Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens of the Counties, Together with Biographies and Portraits of all the Presidents of the United States and The Governors of the State of Kansas. Chicago, Biographical Publishing Co. 1894.
Charles W. McClure. Noticeable among the finely improved farms of Blue Mound Township, Linn County, is the McClure homestead, which is located on the southeast quarter of section 12, township 22, range 22. The owner of this estate, Charles W. McClure, was born in Clark County, Ill., on the 30th of March 1843, and is the son of John M. and Rebecca (Wilkin) McClure, natives of Knox County, Ind. The paternal ancestors of our subject located in Indiana prior to its admission into the Union, and his grandfather, Charles, spent his entire life there, with the exception of the time when he was on the frontier in the Indian wars under General Harrison.
The father of our subject, John M. McClure, was a farmer by occupation, and spent his entire life in the Hossier State, with the exception of a residence of four years in Clark County, Ill. He and his first wife were the parents of three children: Mary, Mrs. John Macklin, who died in Knox County, Ind.; our subject; and William who died in childhood. By a subsequent marriage he became the father of one son, John, now deceased. Charles W. is the only surviving member of the family. He was reared principally in Indiana, to which state his father returned after the death of his mother in Illinois.
In October, 1861, Mr. McClure enlisted for service in the Union army, and his name was enrolled as a member of Company H, Fifty-first Indiana Infantry, in which he served for four years and three months, having veteranized at the expiration of three years. With his regiment he was present at Stone River, Nashville, Franklin and other important engagements. Near Rome, Ga., his regiment was captured by the rebels, but on account of sickness he was not in active service at the time, so escaped being a prisoner. He was Sergeant of his company until, at the close of the war, he was honorably discharged from the army.
Returning to civic pursuits, Mr. McClure for a time remained at his old home in Indiana, whence he came to Kansas and purchased one hundred and sixty acres of unimproved land. Here he has since made his home, having placed the soil under excellent cultivation and introduced all the modern conveniences. He is now the owner of two hundred and forty acres, the value of which has been greatly increased by the erection of a number of substantial buildings, including a pleasant rural abode for his family.
April 17, 1873, Mr. McClure was united in marriage with Miss Sarah C., daughter of Benjamin F. and Mary J. (Marsh) Gibbs. She was born in Hancock County, Ind., April 17, 1854. Her parents, who were natives respectfully of Ohio and Tennessee, removed to Indiana in childhood and there married and resided until 1870, when they came to Kansas. Their home is now in Blue Mound. They had a family of seven children three of whom are now living: A. Ward, who is engaged in the hardware business in partnership with his father at Blue Mound; Mrs. McClure, and Mazie I., who is at home.
The union of Mr. and Mrs. McClure has resulted in the birth of six children, namely: Leonard G., who was born September 11, 1874; Ina B., born November 19, 1876; Orrin, who died April 1, 1892, at the age of thirteen years; Carl L., who passed away at the age of six months; Ralph C., who died May 28, 1888, when three years of age; and Frank D., who was born November 1, 1891. In religious affiliations, Mr. McClure is identified with the Baptist Church, while Mrs. McClure is a Methodist. Socially, he is a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, and in his political relations he is a Republican. He is one of the prominent stockmen of the county, and has for a number of years engaged extensively in stock-raising.
