A BIT MORE ABOUT WHO EL HUMAN ANIMAL IS:

Originally from France, Caroline Brethenoux moved to NYC in December 2012 to follow her passion for dance and discover the wonders of this amazing Metropolis.

Twirling, singing and jumping up and down all day when she was a kid, her parents decided to put her in a ballet class when she was 5 years old to see if that would “calm her down” or at least channel her energy and imagination. Since then, she hasn’t stopped dancing wherever she has lived – Paris, Hong Kong, Madrid, New York – adding contemporary dance, yoga and martial arts to her training.

Coming from a family where a dance career couldn’t be an option, she studied in France’s top Business School, got a philosophy degree at La Sorbonne and became a strategist in advertising in Paris, Hong Kong then Madrid while devoting most of her free time to her true passion: dance.

In February 2012, she joined an emerging contemporary dance company, Complutum Danza Contemporánea, with which she has been performing until today. This experience has literally rocked her life, fulfilling her dream at the age of 32.

It is in NYC that she discovered Gyrokinesis for the first time. Experiencing the benefits of this practice in her own body while keeping on training in dance, she quickly decided to become a teacher. This way, she could not only teach herself to keep on dancing as long as possible in her life but help people rediscover their own physical boundaries and enjoy a new found freedom in their movement.

Having been trained by inspiring teachers, Caroline feels it is now time for her to give back to others as much as she has received, if not more.

EL HUMAN ANIMAL // CAROLINE BRETHENOUX

Coreógrafa y Bailarina de danza contemporánea

Maestra de GYROKINESIS® Y GYROTONIC®

BIOGRAFIA:

@bodegasmonje follows you

Bodegas Monje: The landscape all around the winery is a delight to behold: vineyards, mountains, the sea and the sun. It is a perfect spot to live and nurture our wines. Built by my father back in 1956, the winery was modernized in 1983 but still holds the original oak barrels where the traditional red wine is left to ferment and mature. Age-old practices go hand in hand with modern-day technology.

The Vineyards

Our vineyard stands some 600 meters above sea level in el Sauzal, at a spot known as La Hollera, on stony yet rich volcanic soil that time has helped to fashion. The steep terrain makes mechanized cultivation unfeasible and it is man’s hand that tends the vines. The sun that beats down from the early hours of the morning together with the soft sea breeze that blows add up to a very special microclimate for vine-growing.

Producing 1,500 vines per hectare and an average age of 50, our vines grow along the ground for eight months before being raised up onto wooden stakes that support them until the grapes are picked. We grow Listán Negro, Listán Blanco and Negramoll, three varieties of grapes that give our wines their original characteristics. We also experiment with a great many other pre-phylloxera varieties bequeathed by our forebears.

Our wines are a reflection of the traditional grape varieties used to blend them and the soil they grow in. They are mostly red wines with an original personality that can make them quite difficult to classify at times. They all have an attractive colour and mineral and fruit aromas that are fresh, full and bursting with life.

They are wines that match the land they spring from. All of our labels are part of a limited production of wine that is bottled and individually numbered under the "Denominación de Origen Tacoronte-Acentejo".

This local supervisory body is responsible for quality control at both the production and bottling stage and endorses the wines through a back label on the bottle that guarantees the origin and quality of the wine within.

Tune in Maestro Germán Gutiérrez interview on #ideasNYC w/ @IdeaCatalyst1 via @eelqhshow @Caracol1260 @KeylaMedinaRosa #HoracioGioffre

Director of Orchestra Studies

Texas Christian University

School of Music

Texas Christian University has two major orchestra ensembles: The TCU Symphony and Camerata. Both orchestras provide the University with a series of concerts as well as serving choral, dance, drama, and theatre performances. TCU has a nationally-recognized string department with a caring and devoted faculty that is dedicated to providing its students with individual attention and top quality instruction. This attitude is reflected in the quality of both orchestras as well as in the chamber music program.

A full symphonic ensemble of approximately 75 members, dedicated to playing professional level concerts from the best of the orchestral repertoire. Open to majors and non-majors.

GERMÁN A. GUTIÉRREZ

Professor of Music

Director of Orchestral Studies

Director of the Center for Latin American Music Studies

Germán Gutiérrez has served as Director of Orchestras and Professor of Orchestral Studies at Fort Worth’s Texas Christian University (TCU) as well as Director of TCU’s Latin American Music Center and biennial Latin American Music Festival since 1996. Since 2000, Dr. Gutiérrez has also served as Music Director of the Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth (YOGFW).

Dr. Gutiérrez is a frequent guest conductor of professional orchestras in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Recent invitations include the finals of the Carlos Prieto International Cello Competition in Morelia, Mexico, the Hu Bei State Symphony of China, the Free State Symphony Orchestra of South Africa, and the Argentina, Colombia and Peru National Symphonies.

In 2011, the TCU Symphony Orchestra was awarded the Carlos Gardel Musical Prize for its CD “Cantar Latinoamericano” with Opus Cuatro as soloists. This award leads to the invitation for the orchestra to perform in May, 2013 in Buenos Aires, La Plata and Rosario. In 2008, he returned for an unprecedented twelfth year as guest conductor of the Dallas Symphony’s Hispanic Festival. In 2006, he was invited to conduct the Czech National Symphony in historic Smetana Hall as part of the 110th anniversary of Carl Orff’s birth, where he led the orchestra in a performance of Carmina Burana.

Maestro Gutiérrez has also appeared with the symphony orchestras of Shanghai (China), Xalapa and San Luis Potosí in Mexico, the Fort Worth Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic (New Zealand), Bogotá Philharmonic, Puerto Rico National Symphony, Sinfónica del Teatro Municipal de Rio de Janeiro, and Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), among others. Tune in Mar Salá SPANYC #music interview on #ideasNYC w/ @IdeaCatalyst1 via @eelqhshow @Caracol1260 @KeylaMedinaRosa #HoracioGioffre

"Mar Salá is pure energy, like a volcano in control"

(Jose Miguel López. Radio 3.RNE)

Based in Brooklyn, Marta Hernández, (aka Mar Salá) is an international singer songwriter, a self-taught musician from Seville, Spain. With the collaboration of many accomplished musicians from all over the world, she mixes Latin sounds such as Rumba Flamenca, Brazilian rhythms and Spanish Pop, with Swing and Rock. Marta's original compositions are a cross over between the Flamenco air of Seville and the eclectic sounds of New York City.

She has a total of 3 albums in the market: Primavera (2009) and Take Me to Bahia (2009) were produced by Antonio de Vivo, a well established musician, composer and percussionist from Venezuela with the collaboration of renowned musicians such as Pedro Giraudo (bass), Alfonso Cid (Flamenco singer), Gustavo Schartz (Brazilian Guitar) and Liz Taub (Fiddle and Mandolin) among others.

Her third album, Entre 2 Rivers (2014), produced by Alejandro Zuleta, an accomplished composer, musician, singer and producer from Colombia, has the collaboration of LA SHICA in her version of LOS CUATRO MULEROS. Other musicians are Raphael Brunn (Flamenco Guitar), Victor Prieto (Accordion), Diego Obregón (Bass), Carlos Mena (Upright Bass), Coque González (Electric Guitar), Chacho Schartz (Brazilian Guitar), Franco Pinna (Drums), Néstor Gómez (Percussion) and Lorenzo Azcona (Saxophone). Liz Taub (fiddle) and Alfonso Cid (palmas, jaleos) are special guests. Harmonies are done by Maya Cohrssen-Hernández and Jorge Valdíriz.

Marta has organized musical events in NYC featuring different bands under a common thread. Sounds of Spain and Sounds of the World put together international artists from a variety of genres.

She has been closely collaborating on an ongoing project with the poet Gabriel Amor: Paper Pores/Piel Inédita, a Bilingual Poetry Performance. Paper Pores is written by Gabriel Amor and performed under the musical direction of Marta Hernández/Mar Salá. Music composed by Marta Hernández. This project is being taken to different venues as part of a bilingual educational program.

Marta Hernández has performed in Germany, Spain, Turkey, United States and Puerto Rico. She toured Europe in the summer of 2013 and 2014 to promote her album ENTRE 2 RIVERS.

She performs regularly in the New York area in venues such as DROM, BARBES, TERRAZA 7, CAFFE VIVALDI, THALIA THEATRE, INSTITUTO CERVANTES…among many others.

Sus primeros álbumes, "Take me to Bahia" y "Primavera.”

Tune in Pablo Mayor interview on #ideasNYC w/ @IdeaCatalyst1 via @eelqhshow @Caracol1260 @KeylaMedinaRosa #HoracioGioffre #music #culture #folkloreurbano

Pablo Mayor: Cultura MAYOR!

-- One cannot talk about Colombian music these days without referencing Pablo Mayor. One of the contemporary voices of Colombia outside its borders, Pablo has dedicated the last fifteen years to writing, producing, and promoting Colombian music in New York City. From Cali, Colombia, Pablo Mayor (B.A., M.A. Jazz Arranging/University of North Texas), formerly Professor of Jazz—Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, has produced three CD’s with his band the Folklore Urbano Orchestra and taken the band to both national and international venues. Mayor’s music has been featured by Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra (annual commissions over the past four years, his Colombian porro Mercado en Domingo recorded on ALJO’s album released 2014 Offense of the Drum), and his arrangements recorded by Totó la Momposina. He is founder and producer of NYC’s annual 11-year running Colombian music festival Encuentro NYC.

“Pablo Mayor is the prototype musician of the future. He is a craftsman informed in the traditions and techniques of the very best that American jazz education offers but is committed to filtering this skill through the amazing colors of his indigenous culture. In this sense, he follows in the traditions of all great composers, expanding the palette of an art form by opening it up to the larger planet and its vast array of possibilities. He does this with the skill of a master, with the humor of a poet, and the vision of an explorer. I am thrilled to perform his compositions and honored by his friendship.”-Pianist, composer, and educator Arturo O’Farrill, founder/Afro Latin Jazz Alliance and director/ Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra in Westchester Magazine Oct. /2014

•Cumbia for Kids and Cumbia for All

•Folklore Urbano Orquesta

•Daniel Fetecua Soto, a native of Bogotá, Colombia

•Holds a BFA from Folkwang-Hochschule, Germany

•Has appeared as guest artist in Pina Bausch’s masterpieces, Rite of Spring and Tannhäuser.

•Fetecua has also worked with La Fura Dels Baus, Kuo Chu Wu, and won a salsa award in the European Salsa Championship in 2004.

•In spring 2008 and 2010, Daniel was commissioned to create a new piece by Dancing in the Streets with funding from Harlem Stage.

•In 2012, Daniel received a production grant from NALAC (National Association of Latino Arts and Culture) for the creation of Bella Vista, his first full length choreography inspired by the Massacre of Bojayá, Colombia, that took place in 2002.

•Daniel Fetecua is a member of the world renown Limón Dance Company since 2006

By FOR The BEST, The Woodlands - Magazine

Part of our commitment, is to highlight the values of our people, their work, their achievements and their culture. Their customs and traditions make each region a unique and wonderful place. Aeromexico brings us closer to these wonderful destinations; and this time, my trip in early January took me, along with a group of friends, to retrace a path which I had not taken in 23 years: The famous path of the Carnaval at San Juan de Pasto, Colombia.

The Carnaval, an inspired labor of love by artisans of national and international renown, has been recognized by UNESCO, for being a true artistic treasure. Tourists and locals can tour their large workshops, where in each one, they can visit with a “Master”, whom with the simplicity and humility that comes from wisdom, will eloquently and with great imagination explain the reasoning behind the inspiration and development of this work of art; allowing our creative mind to be swayed by this very involving narrative.

Carolina Revelo, a Social Communicator and journalist, invites us to learn more about this experience with her article: Medicine of color in the Carnival of Blacks and Whites.

We thank Andres Ceballos, Eric Bauer and Michael Garzon, for their extraordinary photographic work. From this edition on, they will be accompanying us with a select number of their photographs, full of color and capturing unique moments in the work of these great masters of the carnaval.

Carnaval de Negros y Blancos

Inscribed in 2009 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Carnaval de Negros y Blancos by UNESCO

Arising out of native Andean and Hispanic traditions, the Carnaval de negros y blancos (Black and White Carnival) in San Juan de Pasto in south-western Colombia is a great celebration lasting from 28 December to 6 January each year. The celebrations begin on the 28th with the Carnival of Water − the throwing of water in homes and on the streets to initiate a festive mood. On New Year’s Eve, the Old Year’s parade takes place, with marchers carrying satirical figures representing celebrities and current events, and culminating in a ritual burning of the passing year. The main days of the carnival are the last two, when people of all ethnicities don black cosmetics on the first day, then white talcum on the next to symbolize equality and integrate all citizens through a celebration of ethnic and cultural difference. The Black and White Carnival is a period of intense communion, when private homes become collective workshops for the display and transmission of carnival arts and a wide range of people come together to express their views of life. The festival is especially important as the expression of a mutual desire for a future of tolerance and respect.

Kudos Baronesa #NY #UIO #MIA #GLPS @baronesaNY #Cristina Morrison @IdeaCatalyst1 @eelqhshow @KeylaMedinaRosa #HoracioGioffre @Caracol1260 #Jazz #Actress #Singer #Princesabaronesa

Actress, Singer Cristina Morrison releases her album Baronesa at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, Tuesday September 29, 8:30 PM

"Part biographical, perhaps even part autobiographical and all adventure, Baronesa by the ineffable chanteuse Cristina Morrison is an amorous masterpiece.” Raul Gama, LATINJAZZNET

New York based actress, songwriter and singer, Cristina Morrison promises a repertoire of original and upbeat compositions effortlessly combining jazz elements with popular rhythms on Tuesday, September 29th, 8:30 p.m on the release of her new album Baronesa (Jazzheads Records) at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen Street, NYC).

Baronesa is Cristina Morrison (lyrics & vocals); Misha Piatigorsky (music & piano); Willard Dyson (drums); Danton Boller (bass); Tatum Greenblatt (trumpet); Dave Pietro (sax).

Affectionately known as the Baroness of Jazz, Cristina Morrison’s second album, appropriately called Baronesa, draws upon her life experiences – featuring songs in four different languages (English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese) with a diverse mix of music styles – jazz, tango, cha cha, drum & bass, bolero and even spoken word. The songs blend her skills as an actress and a singer and tell stories about her life, her friends and the Galapagos Islands. Cristina is deeply committed to contributing to the environmental and social conscience of Galapagos children. She supports an educational arts program called Arteducarte in all the public schools of Isabela. A portion of the proceeds from her records sales helps sustain the program yearly.

TRANSFORMING communities in Latin America

@glasswingint

Glasswing International is an independent, non-profit organization based in San Salvador, El Salvador. Our aim is to transform communities in Central America by leveraging and mobilizing human, financial, and material resources from companies, government, and beneficiaries.

Glasswing: What's in a name? The Glasswing butterfly is a species native to Central America and Mexico. We see the butterfly as a symbol of positive change, and this particular species - with its clear wings - as a representation of transparency.

Mission:

To promote strategic social investment through the creation of 'action networks' - among businesses, foundations, governmental, and non-profit organizations - with the aim of encouraging broader societal participation in improving quality of life.

Vision:

To create a more integrated society in which individuals jointly assist in fostering an environment of solidarity and mutual respect, grounded in the fundamental belief in human dignity; one in which each person can harness his or her individual skills to be an agent of change.

Celina de Sola, Vice-President of Programs and Co-Founder: Celina is co-founder of Glasswing International. Prior to this, Celina worked as consultant for organizations like the Population Council and URC, and as a counselor and resource specialist for Latino immigrants in the US. @bodegasmonje follows you

Celina also spent 5 years as Director of Emergency Response for AmeriCares, leading responses in countries such as Liberia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and the tsunami in Indonesia. She holds Masters’ degrees in public health and social work from Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, and serves on several Boards of Directors.

#NY #UIO #MIA #GLPS @baronesaNY #Cristina Morrison @IdeaCatalyst1 @eelqhshow @KeylaMedinaRosa #HoracioGioffre @Caracol1260 #Jazz #Actress #Singer #Princesabaronesa
