ESPER...no such word in French but obviously it is an abbreviation of the word esperance, meaning HopeThis beautiful embossed aluminium headbadge is very reminiscent of the one used by Alcyon about this same time or slightly earlier...redolent of French art nouveau.
French bike builders really did have a fondness for bird and aeroplane
symbols on their headbadges..maybe it is something to do with lightweight..
I find this head-on view very attractive and very French, very patriotic..
ESPER is the brand name of bikes made by the EMF company based in St Etienne. The company must have been quite a large concern to have all the accessories branded with its own name EMF. Other St Etienne manufacturers such as MANUFRANCE and AUTOMOTO actually manufactured their own bikes parts including cranks, brakes, hubs etc etc..but they were very large companies
