Le vieil homme et le chien
Transparent au regard des passants trop pressés,
Un vieil homme est assis, transi et affamé,
Sous un porche à l’abri des frimas de janvier.
Il implore un sourire, une pièce de monnaie.
Passe un chien dans la rue, un chien de pedigree,
Une voiture suit, heurte le canidé.
Aussitôt extirpés de leurs logis douillets
Accourent de partout des bourgeois empressés.
"Ne le laissez pas là, amenez-le chez moi
J’ai une couverture afin qu’il n’ait pas froid !"
Quelques instants après, l’animal est pansé,
Dorlotté, réchauffé, maintes fois caressé.
Au dehors dans la rue le silence est tombé
Tout le monde est rentré, a fermé ses volets.
Sous son porche à l’abri des frimas de janvier
Le vieil homme soudain s’est mis à aboyer.

Sometimes he would just open a page randomly and read. Somehow, he loved that guy, Viktor Frankl. He reminded him of his dad.
